Chapter 6
Chapter Six
Harrison
I sat at my desk and pressed the intercom button, telling Jeremy I needed to see him. He didn’t answer me, nor did he come into my office. I was irritated, so I got up from my desk, opened my office door, and looked around. He was nowhere to be found.
“Damn it,” I said as I walked down to Athena’s office. “Where is Jeremy?” I asked with irritation.
“He’s running an errand for me.” She smirked.
“Athena, I need him to do something for me right now. It’s important!”
“Then you shouldn’t have fucked my personal assistant, and we wouldn’t be in this predicament, would we?” Her brow raised. “How did your date with Andrea go? Did you give her the boot after sex?”
I sighed as I sat down in the chair across from her.
“It didn’t get that far. She walked out on me in the middle of the restaurant and told me never to call her again. So actually, I was the good guy for once.” I smirked.
“Good. I didn’t like her.”
“You only met her once,” I said.
“Once was enough. I didn’t like her when I met her. Anyway. I told Grandmother we’d be by this afternoon to have lunch with her.”
“Today, Athena? Why are you just telling me this now?”
“I don’t know,” she spoke smugly as she shrugged her shoulders.
“Get over it already. You’ll find a new assistant!”
“You know what’s sad, brother?”
“What, sister?”
“I, too, have to hire a male assistant like you because YOU CAN’T KEEP YOUR DICK IN YOUR PANTS!”
I sighed as I rolled my eyes and got up from my chair.
“What time are we going?”
“One hour,” she said.
Shaking my head, I walked out of her office and sent Jeremy a text message to see me the second he returned.
“You wanted to see me, Mr. Grant?” Jeremy said as he walked into my office.
“Listen, I’m sorry Athena is making you do things for her too. I have Human Resources working on finding her a new assistant ASAP. In the meantime, my work comes first. Do you understand me?”
“I do, Mr. Grant, but?—”
“But what?” I asked with an arch in my brow.
“Frankly, your sister scares me.”
“She’s all bark and no bite. I’ll handle Athena. We’re headed to the retirement home to have lunch with my grandmother. Can you please call the contractor and set a meeting for tomorrow?”
“Of course. Enjoy your lunch.”
“I’ll try.” I sighed.
“Grandmother, you look wonderful.” I smiled as I kissed her cheek.
“Thank you, darling. Welcome home, Athena. I missed you, dear.”
“I missed you too, Grandmother.” She smiled as she hugged her.
“How is my son doing? I haven’t heard from him in a while.”
“He’s doing good,” Athena replied.
“Is he still with that gold-digging whore who could be your sister?”
“She’s actually very nice,” Athena said. “He’s coming here for a visit in two months, and he’s bringing her with him. I think it’s best if we keep Harrison away from her.” She shot me a look.
“Hilarious, Athena.” I narrowed my eye at her.
“What’s going on with you two?” my grandmother asked.
“My personal assistant quit because of him.”
“Harrison, you didn’t,” my grandmother spoke with disappointment.
“As I told Athena, it was one drunken night. My bad. I apologized, and she won’t drop it.”
“When are you going to grow up, Harrison? You’re thirty years old. It’s time to stop acting like a playboy and find yourself a beautiful, nice woman to settle down with.”
“Right? That’s what I said,” Athena chimed in.
“What is this? Gang up on Harrison day? I don’t want to settle down with anyone, Grandmother. I like my lifestyle just the way it is. I live my life the way I want to. I do what I want, and I don’t answer to anyone. I don’t need the complication of a relationship in my life. I’m happy, Grandmother. Please accept that.”
She sat there and slowly shook her head at me.
“One day, my darling grandson, your soulmate will appear before your eyes, and she will enhance your life, not complicate it.”
I stopped arguing with her and quickly changed the subject to my newly purchased townhouse. After spending a couple of hours with her, we kissed her goodbye. Before returning to the office, Athena made me go with her to the furniture store to get my opinion on a couch she wanted to buy.
“I have to tell you what happened last night at the restaurant,” I spoke as we walked out of the furniture store.
“You already told me that Andrea walked out and told you never to call her again.”
“Besides that. There was this woman at the table next to us. God, she was beautiful, and she was dining alone. Anyway, a waiter was walking by, tripped, and dumped his tray of drinks all over her.”
“That’s awful. Did you help her?”
“No. When she got up to leave, she bumped into the waiter, and he fell to the ground. It was quite hilarious. She left, and I followed her outside and asked if I could give her a ride somewhere. Then she said the weirdest thing to me.”
“What did she say?”
“She told me that she was cursed with bad luck and to stay as far away from her as I could.”
Athena let out a laugh. “That was her way of politely saying fuck off.”
“I don’t know. She seemed pretty shaken up.”
“Probably because she could sense you were on the prowl, and you scared her. Poor thing.”
“Whatever, Athena.” I sighed.
She shoulder-bumped me as we stood at the crosswalk, waiting for the light to change.
“Harrison, oh my God! That woman is going to get hit!”
