Chapter 43
Chapter Forty-Three
Adalyn
I told Carly everything that happened and how I was staying in New York. She wasn’t surprised and told me she already knew I wasn’t coming back when I left. Since I had already packed my things, she was shipping them to me, and then she and Daniel would visit Harrison and me soon.
Harrison and I climbed out of the limo and headed into the doctor’s office. Today was the day of my ultrasound, and he was so excited to see the baby.
“Do you really think it’s a boy?” he asked as he held my hand.
“I know it is.” I smiled.
The doctor came in and started the ultrasound. Harrison’s eyes swelled up when he saw our baby on the monitor.
“Your baby is perfect.” Dr. Russo smiled. “Do you want to know the sex?”
“We already know it’s a boy,” I said.
“You’re right. You’re definitely having a boy. It’s as plain as day.”
“Of course, it is. He’s a Grant.” Harrison grinned.
When Dr. Russo left the room, Harrison took my hand and helped me up.
“I love you, Adalyn Banks. I’m in total love with you.” He smiled as he brushed his lips against mine.
“I love you too, Harrison Grant.”
After we left the doctor’s office, Harrison went back to work, and I took a trip to Long Island to pay a visit to Lenoir.
“It’s nice to see you again, Adalyn. Come in.”
I took a seat at the table, and she pushed a cup of tea in front of me.
“You knew about the baby the last time I was here, didn’t you?”
“I saw a baby in your future, and when Mary came to me, that child had already been created.”
“She came to you?”
“Yes. I read her leaves, and she told me not to hold back anything. Now drink up.” She smiled.
I drank from the cup and pushed it across the table to her. She moved the cup in a circle.
“What’s written in the stars has come to fruition. Your destiny is complete.” She smiled. “I see you’re wearing the ring.”
“Yeah.” I looked down at it. “Mary left it to me when she passed away. I was a little hesitant, considering everything I had been through the first time I wore it.”
“Just remember, everything happened the way it was meant to, even after you gave it back to her.”
“You know, I was getting a little concerned because strange things started happening after I started wearing it again. The pipes broke at the hotel I was staying at, so I had to stay with Harrison, and then we got that freak snowstorm out of nowhere, and it snowed us in for an entire day without power.”
“The forces of nature were ensuring that you and Harrison completed your destinies.”
Life was grand. Over the next few weeks, Harrison showered me with flowers and gifts. I told him he needed to stop, and he clearly told me he wouldn’t. I officially started my interior design business, and the Upper East and Upper West side clients started pouring in. My parents came to visit, and so did Carly and Daniel. They would all come again as soon as the baby was born.
I was in the middle of working when my phone rang, and Harrison was calling.
“Hello, handsome.”
“I like the name Christian. Christian Grant. What do you think?”
“Is that why you’re calling me?”
“Other than to tell you I love you, yes.”
“That’s a nice name. Can we talk about it when you get home? I’m working.”
“Sure. We’ll talk about it over a romantic dinner at the Infinity. I’ve closed the restaurant, so it’ll just be the two of us.”
“Sounds sexy. I can’t wait. But what about the guests at the hotel?”
“What about them? They can order room service or dine somewhere else. There are a million restaurants in the city for them to choose from.”
Little did he know that I was also going to ask him what he thought about the name Christian.
Two weeks passed, and Harrison and I took a Saturday and went shopping for the nursery. His taste really hadn’t improved much, and he didn’t see my vision. I wanted him to feel included, so I played along and pretended to like everything he picked out.
“Let’s just order it all today since we’re here,” he said.
“Umm. Let’s wait a couple of days. I want to look online and see if I can get it cheaper.”
“What do you mean you want to see if you can get it cheaper? Adalyn, money isn’t an issue. Especially when it comes to our little prince.”
“Are you really going to argue with a pregnant woman, Harrison? In fact, my hormones are at an all-time high, and you know what that means.” I gave him a flirty smile as I ran my finger down his chest.
“You’re right. The furniture can wait a couple of days.” He grabbed my hand, and we headed straight home.
The furniture for the nursery was delivered, and I put everything in its proper place. I had the walls painted a color called Admiral Blue, and the furniture I picked out was a color called Graphite Gray. A light gray area rug covered in bright white stars lay in the middle of the room. And our baby’s name, Christian, hung in gray block letters above the crib. The room looked stunning, and I couldn’t wait for Harrison to get home.
I kissed him and led him upstairs when he walked through the door. I’d told him earlier that they delivered the furniture, and he couldn’t wait to see it. I carefully watched his expression as he opened the door and stepped inside.
“Wow. This looks great. But that’s not the furniture we ordered.”
I stood there, biting down on my bottom lip, and not saying a word.
“Adalyn, you never ordered the furniture we agreed upon, did you?”
“Listen, Harrison. What you liked wouldn’t have worked. Just like the light fixtures for the house and the bedroom set. Need I go on?” I arched my brow.
“No. You’re right. You’re the designer. But you could have told me that while we were in the store.”
“Awe, I didn’t want to hurt your feelings.” I kissed his lips.
