CHAPTER 5

As Coral showed Rayne around the company, department by department, Rayne began to notice something strange.

“Coral, can I ask you something?” he said as they walked back toward Lucian’s office. He had already seen nearly every corner of the building.

“Yes, Master, you can ask,” Coral replied politely.

“Why isn’t there a single omega working here? Not even among the staff. Everyone seems to be either alpha or beta. Why didn’t I see any omegas?”

Coral smiled slightly. “Because my boss doesn’t like omegas. That’s why, until now, no omega has ever stepped foot in this company. You’re the first one to ever come here.”

“What?” Rayne froze for a second. He had heard rumors from his mother that Lucian didn’t like omegas, but he never imagined it was this serious—enough that not a single omega worked here.

He couldn’t find any words to say. By the time he gathered his thoughts, they had already reached Lucian’s office.

Rayne went inside quietly and sat down on the sofa. Pulling out his phone, he began scrolling aimlessly, trying to push away the uneasy feeling in his chest.

What could be the reason Lucian hated omegas so much? And if he still did, then why did he care about Rayne? Why did he act so normal around him… and even agree to marry him?

Those questions kept circling in Rayne’s mind as he sat alone in Lucian’s office, lost in thought.

Coral had already left after dropping him off, so there was no one else here. The silence made his thoughts louder and heavier.

Rayne sighed softly and leaned back on the sofa. He couldn’t just leave now. He had to wait for Lucian to finish his meeting.

After nearly twenty more minutes, the door finally opened, and Lucian stepped inside.

He looked tired, but Rayne felt even more exhausted. Sitting in one place for so long had drained him completely.

“You’re back, Lucian,” Rayne said, glancing up at him.

Lucian nodded and slumped down on the sofa right beside him. “I’m so tired, kitty. Let me rest on your shoulder.”

Rayne wanted to refuse, but Lucian had let him rest on his shoulder in the theater earlier, and even hugged him yesterday when he needed it most. So in the end, he couldn’t say no.

As soon as Lucian’s head rested against Rayne’s shoulder, Rayne could hear his own heartbeat echoing in his chest, loud and fast. Why was his heart beating like this?

And just then, the door slammed open and Coral rushed in, panic written all over his face.

“Boss, there’s a big problem!” Coral said breathlessly.

“What happened?” Lucian asked immediately.

Hearing that, Coral hesitated, glancing at Rayne like he wasn’t sure whether to speak in front of him.

Rayne was about to tell him he could leave so Coral could speak freely, but then Coral started anyway.

“Actually… there’s an omega outside the company claiming he’s pregnant with your child. He says you spent the night with him and then abandoned him afterward.”

Wow. What a piece of news.

For a second, Rayne honestly felt like he was holding a bucket of popcorn, watching some dramatic daily soap unfold right in front of his eyes.

But could that omega really be telling the truth? Rayne doubted it. From everything he had learned so far, Lucian disliked omegas, so there was no way he’d spend the night with one.

That omega was probably lying… maybe just trying to get Lucian’s attention.

“Call that omega here right now. I want to see him,” Lucian said, straightening up, his expression turning hard and serious.

He looked angry, or maybe he already knew who that omega was.

Otherwise, there was no way he’d allow an omega into this building, especially when it was strictly against his company’s rules.

Coral hurried out to fetch the omega, and Rayne glanced at Lucian. “Are you okay, Lucian?”

Lucian’s eyes met Rayne’s before he leaned back against Rayne’s shoulder again. “I’m not fine at all,” he murmured.

Just then, the door opened again. Coral entered, followed by the omega.

He was small, with black hair, and tears were streaming down his cheeks.

“Mr. Lucian, I finally got the chance to meet you again,” he cried.

“Please take responsibility for your actions! This isn’t fair, you made me pregnant and then abandoned me!”

Lucian’s head was still resting on Rayne’s shoulder. Rayne’s eyes were fixed on the crying omega, and Lucian’s were too.

“So you’re saying you’re pregnant with my child? And how come I don’t remember spending the night with you? Do you at least remember which hotel it was?”

Oh my god, look at Lucian getting bold, asking such a blunt question to that omega.

The omega looked scared, but if he was truly scared, he wouldn’t have come here in the first place.

It meant he was only pretending, acting pitiful in front of Lucian to gain sympathy.

Lol. Rayne swore he was starting to see through people’s fake faces so easily these days.

“Why aren’t you answering?” Lucian asked again.

“I… I don’t remember the hotel either. But you were the one who grabbed me first and took me to the room! And now I’m pregnant, so take responsibility and marry me!”

Wow. So that was the goal. He wanted to marry Lucian. He must’ve made up this whole drama to trap him.

Because if they really had spent the night together, he’d definitely remember which hotel it was. The fact that he didn’t proved he was lying.

“So, you want me to marry you because I supposedly made you pregnant?” Lucian muttered.

“Yes!” the omega said, then shot a glare at Rayne, probably because Lucian’s head was still resting on Rayne’s shoulder.

Excuse me? Rayne thought. It wasn’t his fault Lucian was leaning on him. He didn’t force him to. So don’t look at him like he did something wrong.

Lucian sighed. “Then how about we go to the hospital and check if you’re actually pregnant with my child?”

The omega’s face immediately went pale. “It’s really your child! Don’t you trust me at all? Why would I lie about something like this?”

“So, it’s really my child?” Lucian said coldly.

“Then let’s still go to the hospital, because as the supposed father of this child, I’m not ready to become one yet. So maybe we should get it aborted.”

The omega’s eyes widened, his voice trembling.

“Y-You want to abort this child? How cruel! If you don’t marry me, I’ll tell the entire world that you refused to take responsibility, and even threatened me to get an abortion!”

Oh wow. He really had this whole plan ready, huh? No matter what it took, he was determined to get Lucian.

Rayne gently patted Lucian’s head, making him sit up straight. Then Rayne stood and walked over to the omega.

“Tell me,” Rayne said calmly, standing right in front of him, “was Lucian in his rut cycle that night when you supposedly spent the night with him?”

“W-Why would I tell you that?” the omega stammered.

Of course he was lying. Rayne was sure of it.

Rayne placed his hand lightly on the omega’s shoulder. “Then at least tell me, what are Lucian’s pheromones like? Since you were so close to him, you must’ve noticed them.”

That question was key.

Dominant alphas had distinct pheromones that only elite omegas could sense just by being near them.

Rayne already knew Lucian’s pheromones—fresh lemon. And Lucian probably already knew Rayne’s too… sweet milk candy.

“His pheromones are…?” Rayne prompted.

The omega’s eyes darted toward Lucian. Rayne turned and saw Lucian sitting there with his arms crossed, glaring at him.

“Answer me,” Rayne said again. “Or don’t you actually know?”

“O-Of course I know!” the omega said quickly. “They’re… tequila!”

Rayne raised an eyebrow and calmly went back to sit beside Lucian, a smile tugging at his lips.

“He says he spent the night with you and is even pregnant with your baby,” Rayne said with a small laugh, “and yet he doesn’t know your pheromones. What a cool joke. Honestly, it’s my first time witnessing something this ridiculous.”

“Enough of this omega’s nonsense,” Lucian said coldly. “Coral, take him away from here.”

Lucian gave Coral a look, a silent signal Rayne didn’t quite understand.

Coral immediately grabbed the omega, who began crying and struggling.

“You can’t do this! Let me go!” he screamed, fighting back with all his strength. Then suddenly, he slipped and fell to the ground.

“I love you, Lucian. Please don’t do this to me. Please marry me. I promise I will keep you happy. And if you don’t listen to me, I will go to any lengths to destroy you.” The omega was losing his mind. Rayne could see it.

“Coral, did you forget to eat today? You can’t even handle one omega?” Lucian snapped. “Get him out of here now.”

Coral nodded quickly and dragged the omega out of the office.

Rayne exhaled and glanced outside; it was already dark. “Lucian, it’s getting late. I should head back now,” he said.

He stood up and took out his phone. “My driver will be here in about fifteen minutes.”

Lucian nodded, still sitting there, deep in thought. He seemed shocked by everything that had happened.

“You’re okay, right, Lucian?” Rayne asked softly.

Lucian nodded again, though he didn’t look fine.
