CHAPTER 7

When he opened his eyes, it was already morning. He glanced around, he had been alone in the room all night. He checked his phone: it was 10 a.m. Lucian hadn’t called. He hadn’t come back at all. How could he do that?

There was a knock on the door. This was the hotel room specially booked for their wedding night, and he had slept there alone. The bed had indeed been good and soft.

Rayne stepped down from the bed and opened the door a little. An omega staff member stood there.

“Sir, here are your clothes. We were told to prepare them for you,” he said.

Rayne took the clothes and closed the door. Had Lucian told the staff to prepare his clothes?

He was going to scold him, no, he was going to beat the shit out of him when he saw him. How could Lucian do this after they were married? Was he going to behave like this?

But wait, Rayne hadn’t called Lucian again yet, so he didn’t know whether Lucian had tried calling him. Still, why hadn’t he come back last night? There was no clue where he had gone.

Rayne showered, dressed in the clothes the staff had prepared, grabbed his mobile, and opened the door. A beta girl stood waiting.

“You’re awake. Sister-in-law, let’s go. I’ll drop you home. Boss had a very urgent meeting and left the country last night, so I’ll take you,” she said.

Rayne crossed his arms. “Why didn’t Lucian tell me himself that he was going to a meeting? He didn’t even answer my calls.”

The girl didn’t have an answer, which made Rayne sure he should ask Lucian, not his subordinates.

“All your luggage was moved into the main house already. I just need to take you there,” she added.

Rayne stepped out and began walking; the girl followed him. He wanted to call his parents and tell them, but he was married now. He couldn’t bother them with little things. He would have to solve this himself.

When they reached the parking lot, he climbed into the girl’s car. She dropped him off in front of the mansion.

He had seen this mansion before when he’d come with his parents to meet Lucian’s family.

He remembered that Lucian’s whole family lived here, everyone had separate houses, but they still lived together.

It must be nice to live with such a big family.

Rayne stepped inside, and as soon as he entered, Lucian’s mom came toward him.

“Oh, my Rayne, you’re here! I heard Lucian had an urgent meeting, that’s why he left last night. I’m really sorry about that,” she said softly.

“It’s okay, aunty,” Rayne said, but she stopped him and looked at him for a moment.

“Oh yes, call me Mom,” she said with a warm smile before pulling him into a hug.

“Come, I’ll show you your room,” she said, leading him upstairs.

When Rayne entered the room, he was surprised. It was beautiful—really beautiful. After showing him around, she left.

He had heard that Lucian’s grandparents and parents all lived here together with his siblings.

All his clothes and things were already arranged neatly in the room. But when was Lucian going to come back?

Rayne sat on the bed, hugging his knees to his chest, lost in thought.

Just then, he heard a knock on the door. He turned his head and saw a cute little alpha boy standing there. He had black hair and looked like a tiny version of Lucian.

He must be Lucian’s younger brother. Rayne had seen him at the wedding—the one who cried for cake.

Rayne smiled at the kid as he stepped inside, glancing curiously around the room.

Then the boy came closer and tried to climb up onto the bed. He was only five, so he wasn’t tall enough.

Rayne reached out and lifted him onto the bed beside him.

“So, what do you want to say, kiddo?” Rayne asked.

The little boy glanced up, his cheeks round and puffy like little dumplings. Rayne almost wanted to eat them.

But then, out of nowhere, the boy’s eyes filled with tears, and he suddenly burst into loud sobs.

Rayne panicked when he saw that cute little kid crying. Why was the kid suddenly crying? Was he hurt? Or upset about something?

He stretched out his hand and gently patted the little boy’s hair. “Hey, kiddo, don’t cry. Why are you crying? Is it because of me?” Rayne asked.

But the child kept crying, so Rayne picked him up and placed him on his lap, wrapping his arms around the small alpha.

He began patting the boy’s back softly. Honestly, Rayne wasn’t good at comforting kids, mainly because he was still one himself, or at least he didn’t consider himself very grown.

As he kept patting him, the little alpha suddenly buried his face against Rayne’s chest and went quiet. At least he had stopped crying.

After a few minutes of silence, Rayne checked on him and realized the kid had fallen asleep.

Kids were really adorable. He was crying just moments ago, and now he was sleeping soundly like nothing had happened.

Rayne chuckled and tried to move the boy off his lap, but the kid stirred as if about to wake up.

So Rayne stopped and let him sleep there, sitting still without moving. With some effort, he reached for his phone and began scrolling through it.

There were a few messages from his parents, so he replied, though he didn’t mention anything about Lucian.

After responding, he browsed the internet and stumbled upon an article about him and Lucian getting married. Their wedding photos were posted too.

Well, now he was married. A new chapter of his life had officially begun.

After closing the article, Rayne read some comics. About an hour later, Lucian’s mom came to visit and saw the kid sleeping on his lap.

“Oh! My pudding is here! I’ve been searching for him for the past hour,” she said as she picked him up. When he woke up and saw his mom, he hugged her tightly and fell asleep again.

His name suited him perfectly, “Pudding.” It was so cute that Rayne couldn’t help but smile. After Aunt left, Rayne lay down on the bed and glanced around the room.

His eyes were heavy from reading comics, so he placed his phone on charge and drifted off to sleep.

When he woke up, he noticed that he was covered with a blanket. But he clearly remembered not covering himself when he went to sleep. So who did it?

Wait, did Aunt come back and tuck him in after seeing him sleeping?

Just as he was wondering, the sound of the door opening made him turn sharply toward the bathroom.

Lucian stepped out, a towel wrapped loosely around his waist, his upper body bare. He was drying his hair with one hand, looking effortlessly handsome.

Was Rayne dreaming? Or was this real?

Before he could figure it out, Lucian came closer to the bed.

“Why are you looking at me like that, Rayne?” he asked.

Hearing Lucian’s voice, Rayne realized it was real. But then he remembered how Lucian had disappeared last night.

Rayne got off the bed and smacked Lucian’s bare arm. “You idiot! How dare you leave me alone last night and go on a business trip without telling me?”

“Ugh… that hurts. Don’t hit me like that,” Lucian complained. Red handprints were already forming on his arm, but Rayne didn’t care. He was angry, so he hit him a few more times before sitting back on the bed.

“Well, I didn’t go on a business trip last night,” Lucian said. “I was here. I just didn’t come to you. It was our wedding night, if we’d spent it together, my family would’ve started expecting grandchildren.”

Rayne frowned, not quite understanding. So Lucian had been home the whole time but chosen to ignore him? What if something had happened to him?

His frustration boiled over. “You’re such a jerk! You ignored me completely. Do you hate the idea of having kids with me that much?”

“Yes, I do,” Lucian replied coldly. “I don’t want any kind of sexual relationship with you. So don’t expect anything.”

His words hit Rayne hard. It wasn’t like Rayne was desperate to sleep with him, it’s just that they were married now. Every couple did that.

But Lucian made it sound like Rayne shouldn’t expect anything at all. If he hated the idea so much, then why did he even marry him?

“We’re moving to our house today,” Lucian continued. “Your luggage will be sent over by the servants, so don’t worry.” Then he walked to the wardrobe to get dressed.

Rayne didn’t say a word. If he spoke, he would sound like he was begging for affection, and he didn’t want that.

So he simply pulled his knees to his chest and hugged them, feeling the sting of Lucian’s words.

Why did everything bad always happen to him? Lucian was fine before their marriage.

Honestly, they had never even talked about intimacy or expectations, they didn’t get the chance. It all happened so fast.
