It’s late by the time I get home. She watches my gaze shift down the length of her short silky robe, as she takes a sip from her glass of wine. “Good day, vampire?”
I tug on my tie and watch the little pulse on the side of her neck beat with approval.
“It was a full one. Descallia called me after he met with you. Told me he needed to make sure you were good with the relationship, everything was above board, no concerns, the normal things we expected to be on his mind.”
She nods. “He really does care. Don’t ever tell him I told you this, but he was all like in father mode.
It was endearing to say the least. Of course, I told him you forced me to do wicked things to you, spanked my ass, and all kinds of kinky shit that I’d never even heard of. He seemed to handle it well.”
I close the distance while unbuttoning the top button of my shirt. “You told him those things huh? Did you also tell him that I did a hell of a lot more than that and would do it again in a heartbeat?”
Embry laughs, a sexy throaty laugh, the one she saves just for me. “Not at all, vampire. I was just kidding. He didn’t want details. Just wanted to make sure we were okay, and that I wasn’t compromised by your position.” She shrugs. “It’s his job.”
I nod. “Apparently, the new vampire court we’re creating is intended to help with some of the overlap between masters, lords, and their mates who want to be more involved in programs that help us and the community.
“Descallia said that if we’re officially mated in the eyes of the vampire community, and both part of the vampire court, meaning the circle responsible for oversight along with the consulate, it doesn’t matter if there is a reporting connection.
“Whatever you and Lucianna want to work on, you can, because the vampire court has a clearing process with the masters of the consulate. All the masters get a say. Taylen has the same issue. She wanted to be part of the warriors, and Slobozia had to step into a different role to allow it. Now, he can do what he loves, and she can as well. Assuming you’ll be keeping her in the group. ”
Embry gasps. “Taylen and I actually talked this morning. She is so excited about the entire vibe of the warriors, and you know as well as all the masters and lords that she knows how to fight. She’ll show everyone just how talented she is when we get her to the skills section.”
My eyebrow arches. “You’re planning to keep that?”
She takes a sip of wine. “Yes, it’s a great way to see what everyone brings to the table skill wise. And I just happen to know a couple trainers who would love to be in a training and conditioning role for us. But not before they pass the loyalty tests. I’d like to talk more with you about those.”
I nod. “You’ve thought this through.”
Embry looks up at me and with only mere inches between us I can feel the heat of her desire through the thin fabric of her sexy little robe.
I slide my tie from around my neck and loop it around Embry’s, playfully drawing her so close that she’s pressed up against my chest. I slide a hand around her nape and tilt her head with a finger beneath her chin. “I love you.”
Embry’s bright purple eyes shine up at me, glistening. “I love you too, vampire.”
“I want you to be mine. Officially, I want the ceremony. I want to see you walk over the bridge of blood to me with your tiara and gown. To come to me and be one for all of time.”
She stands on her tiptoes to kiss me, but I scoop her into my arms and raise her to my mouth, capturing her lips with a passion that vibrates deep in my soul. “Mine.”
“Yes, yours vampire, for eternity.”
I open the sash of her robe and gaze at the naked beauty before me. “You are the most beautiful creature I have ever seen.”
I settle Embry on the edge of my bed before joining her, our passions far too heated to ignore. She leans back looking up at me with those immersive purple eyes, and I now know without a doubt how it feels when destiny strikes.
