Chapter 19: There's Always A Threat To A Happily Ever After.
Killian he seems to have fixed his look a bit.
He's ditched the mustache, and now his hair is trimmed and dyed.
"Why haven't the police caught up with you?" I ask as I struggle to free myself from his grip, but it's futile.
"I got a new look. Aren't you going to tell me how handsome I look?" he asks as he starts dragging me along with him. "Come on, let's go."
This isn't good.
"Help! Help!" I start to yell.
"Shhh," he hushes me as he shows me the blade. "Let's try not to draw attention to ourselves. Come quietly, or I'll be helping myself to a free hand job, courtesy of your hands."
"You're sick." I squeeze my face in disgust to further emphasize my point.
"You're right about that. I'm sick of you treating me like a fool," he says. "Showing off with that big-shot fake boyfriend of yours. Ignoring me, who has always been your number one supporter right from the years when you had only three-digit followers on your platforms. Now you treat me like garbage, but not anymore."
"You wouldn't dare," I say.
"I wouldn't try me if I were you," he warns.
I look over at the building, instantly regretting not waiting for Killian to finish so he could drop me off.
I give up resisting and go along with him.
"Much better," he sighs and leads me to a car.
As his guard lowers, I smash my phone's screen on his head.
"Ahhhhh!" The blood-curdling scream can be heard from miles away.
He lets go of my hand, and I run toward Killian's building.
Steven tries to grab me, but he falls and causes me to stumble.
My head makes contact with the ground. I turn and stomp hard on his face, and he lets me go.
I get up and continue my escape to the building.
As I enter the area, Killian is already downstairs, running toward me.
"Are you okay?" he asks. "Where's the bastard?"
"He's…" I turn, and I notice a crazed Steven holding his bleeding head.
"Madison!!!" he yells at me.
"Stay behind me and call the police," Killian says as he gets in front of me.
"My phone, it's bad. I smashed it on his head," I explain.
"Then use mine. It has no password," he says as he hands me his phone without looking away from Steven.
I hurriedly dial the police.
Killian
The guy looks different from what I remember.
When Nathan returned from his trip to pick up Madison, I also visited the police to find out if there had been any news concerning Madison's stalker, but all they had were dead ends.
Incompetent, yes, but now I think I know why they've been unable to identify him.
To be honest, I actually saw him watching Madison earlier, but I didn't even realize it was him. I guess that's what the feeling of dread was.
But to think he has gotten so bold as to want to harass her in broad daylight.
I need to stop him at all costs.
"You can stop here and just go home," I warn him, hoping that there's a tiny part of him that I can reason with.
"You little bitch," he curses at Madison, completely ignoring me. "What the hell did you do that for?"
"I don't want you around me!" Madison screams.
"You don't get to talk to me like that, not after all the support I've given you. The donations, everything," he starts blabbing.
"Look, I want you off my property now," I warn again.
He shows me the knife in his hand and says, "You don't get to tell me what to do. You have no idea how in love I am with her."
"Well, I guess I can tell you the same thing," I smirk.
It's a risky move trying to taunt him, but I need something to throw him off his game. He's armed, but I'm not.
"You don't know anything; you don't love her at all. If you had truly loved her, you would have known everything about her," he says. "Her pictures while she worked out at the gym. The kind of food she wanted when she was tired. Or all the videos she accidentally uploaded and took down. Now, because she's busy living a fancy life with you, she's completely negated me and all her viewers. Because of that, she must feel all alone even with you, and I know I'm the right person to stand by her side. Not a low life like you."
"Low life? Are we playing reverse roles now?" I burst into laughter. "Clearly, you're the low life, but I'll let it slide. I don't have time to waste on people my woman doesn't even know exists."
"What? You piece of shit!" he yells and charges toward me with the knife in his hand.
I dodge the blade and grab the arm holding it. I give him a right hook, but I still hold his arm securely, crushing it as hard as I can, waiting for him to drop the weapon out of pain or something.
He refuses to let go and tries to hit me with his other hand, but I hold it and give him a headbutt. It works, and I can tell his grip has weakened, so I headbutt him again and again until he becomes dizzy.
The knife drops, and I let go of him, watching him collapse completely.
He's knocked out.
"So much for me being the low life," I sigh.
"You did it! Ow," Madison's yelp of pain draws my attention.
I turn around and find her holding her head and blood covering her face.
How did this happen? Did she get involved, trying to help me, when I was struggling with him?
"Shit!" I run over to her and tear out my shirt, using it to apply pressure to the wound. "Did you call the police?"
"Yes, they're on their way," she replies and then chuckles. "Look at you all panicky because I'm bleeding."
"I just don't know what to explain to Nathan if he sees this," I groan as I continually dab the wound.
"It'll be fine. I'm sure he'd understand once he…" She stops and looks behind me, and then she screams.
Before I can turn, I feel the blade piercing into my side.
"Ahhh!" I yell in pain and turn; the last thing I see is a pipe hitting me by the side of my head, causing my body to drop to the floor.
He leaves the blade in me and heads to Madison. I quickly pull out the knife and stab his leg.
As he roars in pain, he is tackled by two construction workers.
I let out a sigh of relief and lie on my back, trying to stop the bleeding.
My body starts to feel cold.
"Killian? Killian? Oh my God, Killian," Madison calls out to me as she tries to suppress the bleeding by using the shirt I gave her. "Somebody help!"
"Your yelling is hurting my ears," I chuckle nervously.
"Don't… don't try any quips. I'm not letting you die," she says amidst tears. "Not when we're just falling in love."
I want to tell her that he missed my vitals, so there is a chance that I'd survive. Even the damage to my head isn't that severe.
"I… I won't…" I smile.
Strange.
I am feeling cold from the loss of blood, but just seeing her cry for my sake, I start to feel warm again.
So, this… is what falling in love feels like.
"Madison… I love you," I say softly as my eyes begin to force themselves close despite my attempts to slow them down or stop them.
"Killian? Killian?" she is calling again, but her voice begins to sound somewhat distant.
Maybe I should have told her that I was going to be okay.
Saying I love you before passing out will cause problems.
No good…
I can't hear her again... the darkness takes over.
