Epilogue
Jack
I received a letter from Germany on the week the divorce was final. The address was from Krista’s mom’s house but there was no name saying who it was from. I have a bit of dread as I tear open the letter alone in my office.
Jack: By the time you receive this, your divorce from my daughter will be final. I want you to know that I am heartbroken that it came to that. Krista told me everything that happened. I can’t even imagine the anguish you went through as you witnessed what she was doing.
I want to thank you for giving Krista ten years in America that she will never forget.
I suppose she will never forget you either.
She said that she wanted to write to you but I told her not to.
I told her that her job now is to leave you alone and never interfere in your life again.
She had her opportunity to live a happy life with you and she threw it away.
I wish you good luck and all the happiness in the world Jack. I will never forget you either…Helga
I felt a bit of remorse after I read the letter for a second time. Krista and I had shared a good 10 years together. And I have forgiven her. But I still had to divorce her because a relationship without trust would be poisoned with suspicion and resentments.
I wrote a quick reply tell Helga that I appreciated her letter and kind words. I told her that I do not hold any ill feelings and that I will never forget her or Krista. I wished both her and Krista a happy life.
Although I had been happy all those years with Krista, none of it could compare to the 3 months I have shared with Jessie. I completely believe that we were born to be together.
We were married at the Seattle courthouse on October 31st. Halloween day. An anniversary that will always be a blast to celebrate.
