Chapter 61
Chapter Sixty-One
Kain
When I arrived at a secluded warehouse, I found Christian Madison and Jordan Borowski, the two men who’d kidnapped Eva. They were both tied to chairs, waiting for me. I nodded to the four men standing around, and they left the room, guarding the outside.
A table with various tools sat nearby. I slid a hip onto the table and glanced at a knife, a hammer, a handheld saw, and other implements used in torture. Folding my arms across my chest, I looked at them.
Christian’s and Jordan’s faces were bruised, probably from fighting to escape my men.
“If you let us go, w-we’ll pay you,” said Christian, the dark-haired man who had dressed up as the old woman, deceiving Eva.
“Just name a number,” Jordan said, flicking back his brown hair that was smeared with blood.
“I’m not interested in money.” I gripped the serrated knife, flicking the blade with my fingers. “Do you know why you’re here?”
Christian glanced at Jordan before meeting my eyes. “No.”
“Let me remind you.” I stepped over to Christian and imagined the fear in Eva that day.
“You kidnapped my girlfriend. You scared her. You hurt her, and now you’re going to pay for it.
” I jabbed the knife into his thigh, twisted the blade, and yanked it out.
A loud scream erupted as blood poured out, staining his jeans.
Jordan gasped in horror as I stabbed Christian in both ankles, one after the other, spending more time there as I remembered Eva’s limp. When I was satisfied, I moved to his arms and back.
I repeated the actions on Jordan, ignoring their pleas for me to stop. These men would die today, but they needed to experience pain first.
When I was done with them, I cleaned my hands of blood with sanitary wipes and tossed them into the trash. Whimpers escaped from the men, probably begging for help. I walked out of the room and informed my men to call up Calvin Wong’s farm to dispose of their bodies.
Inside my car, I sat for a moment to calm myself.
Certain things needed to be balanced. These assholes committed heinous crimes that demanded justice.
Perhaps in the eyes of society, my method wasn’t “justice,” but I didn’t give a shit.
I wasn’t going to wait for God or anyone else to get me justice.
Shoving them aside, I drove home to my woman. When I opened the door, I saw Eva sitting on the couch, smiling at the notepad in her hand.
I leaned against the wall and watched her. Bat wings flapped in my chest, swelling my heart. She was so beautiful, looking carefree and so perfect in my home. This was where she belonged.
Eva showed me there was beauty in life, and that powerful beauty could eliminate any darkness.
“What are you smiling about?” I asked.
She looked up at me, and her eyes filled with joy. I could live like this forever, coming home to her every day.
“You’re back.” She put down her notepad, stood up, and froze, knowing how I didn’t want her to walk yet. But I knew she’d been doing it when I wasn’t around.
I pushed myself off the wall and opened my arms to her. “Walk over to me.”
She took her first step, winced but forced a smile, and limped the rest of the way.
I wrapped my arms around her, swept her legs up into my arms, and carried her around the house just because. “You’re still not ready to walk yet.”
She tilted her face up at me. “Are you going to carry me around like this forever?”
“If you want.”
“I’m not exactly light, you know.”
“You’re a good workout.” I curled her up and down in my arms like a weight. “Besides, I’ve got the muscles for it.”
“You sure do.” She ran a hand over my chest and up to my shoulders. “They’re hot.”
Grinning, I walked back to the couch, sat down, and placed her on my lap. Then I reached for her foot, examined it, and stroked the scab. “No one will ever hurt you again.”
A question sparked in her eyes. “Did something happen?”
“It did.” I released her foot, wrapped my arms around her, inhaling her scent.
Silence hummed between us as the obvious topic floated around the room.
Eva veered back, looked at me, and broke the silence. “Are they dead?”
“Yes. Are you okay with that?”
“Before meeting you, I wouldn’t have been.
” She shifted on my lap and cupped my face.
“But now I know too much. I know this world is dark and corrupt. The law is twisted like a pretzel. No one knows where the law begins and where it ends. Good people are framed while bad people are rewarded.” Wisdom gleamed in her eyes, making me love her even more.
“You took matters into your own hands to prevent further crimes. If those men lived, how many more people would they kidnap for Hawthorne? So I’m okay with your actions.
” She kissed my lips lightly. “Sometimes you have to get your hands dirty to prevent far worse things from happening.” She kissed me again. “I love you.”
Eva loved and understood me. Nothing else mattered. She was the flower that bloomed just for me.
Her eyes beamed with a new topic. “Guess what?”
“You want me naked right now?” I slapped her ass.
“That too.” She laughed. “But I think I have the perfect name for the flower shop.”
“Oh yeah? What is it?”
“I’ll tell you after I have you naked.” She tugged at my shirt and forgot to mention anything about the flower shop the entire night.
