"D-Deaths spells!" I spluttered out, practically clinging onto Zac.
My eyes shot around the room, taking into account everyone's expressions, before fixing back on the witch Demarcus, who was sweating so much I wondered whether he would turn into a puddle in the middle of the room.
I felt grateful for Zac's strong arms that held me up, because I was sure as hell that my shaky legs wouldn't be able to. What on earth was going on? All this talk of witches and spells was making me lose my mind.
"Yes Luna, you had a Death spell on you." Demarcus managed to muster enough courage to speak, though that same courage dispersed when Zac growled from beside me, the noise so loud, the walls of the room actually shook.
"What does that mean, Witch?!" Zac's voice thundered.
Demarcus turned whiter than a sheet of paper.
"It me-er- it means that someone has tried to cast a spell on the Luna to k- kill her."
All I felt was a whoosh of air from beside me and before anyone could react Zac had managed to pin the poor, trembling witch up against the wall.
"WHO! Who cast the spell?!"
I gasped as Zac's eyes turned pitch black, his face red with anger, his nails elongating and digging into Demarcus' neck.
"I-urhgi- I do-don't know-" The witches voice could hardly be heard. I mean the man was struggling to breath, his face changing a shade of purple,? but he managed to splutter out the few words. However they weren't the ones my mate had wanted to hear and his hands continued to tighten around the man's neck with so much force I covered my ears because I could almost hear the snapping that was soon to follow.
Thankfully Jasper acted before Zac could actually break Demarcus' neck, managing to somehow pull Zac off the witch.
Zac took a step back, shaking his head until his eyes turned back to their normal shade. His heavy breathing and tremble in his hands made me step forward but Jayden quickly stopped me.
"Not yet." He simply said and I assumed he was warning me that Zac's wolf was still close to the surface.
I looked away from Jayden and back to Zac and met his blazing grey ones. He turned away and spoke to Demarcus- the poor man was lying limp against the wall.
"The mark is no longer on her, so what does that mean?" There was no empathy or pity in his voice. He had questions and he wanted them answered.
Demarcus looked up from the ground, his eyes dazed and blurry, possibly from the fact he had just had a near death experience. He didn't dare to look
at Zac, instead his eyes trailed to me. They roamed over my body before stopping at my neck.
"Your mark-" he breathed, rubbing at his red and bruised neck, "your mating mark broke the spell."
"Does that mean I'm no longer cursed?" I ask, my mind still struggling to get around all of this.
Demarcus shook his head, "The Death spell is broken, but the suppression one still needs to be reversed."
I share a look with Zac, who had finally calmed down, though the dark glare in his eyes was still present.
"And you have no idea who cast the Death spell?" I ask, wondering if Demarcus can explain more, now that he wasn't seconds away from being strangled to death.
Demarcus pulled himself up and steadied himself against the wall. He closed his eyes and whispered words in an ancient sounding language and then clicked his fingers. The silver in his eyes glowed and we all watched as the bloodied and bruised skin on his neck healed. He clicked his neck from side to side and exhaled a deep breath. I watched in amazement as he regained his former appearance, not a scratch on his body.
Finally feeling fit enough to talk he opened his mouth.
"Like I mentioned before, " he started, "who ever cast these spells is capable of incredible power, yet I wonder why you are not dead yet." I could tell he meant it in his own curiosity, but clearly Zac nor the other members of the pack shared the same thought as they all stepped forward, menacing growls forcing Demarcus to take a step back, his eyes going wide again.
"Hold on!" I demanded, making everyone stop, "let's just hear him out," I turned to Zac who was fixed on Demarcus but his gaze flickered to mine, "please..." I pleaded when we shared eye contact.
Zac must have said something through his mind link and everyone took a step back, letting Demarcus lower his shoulders in relief.
"Please continue." I tell him when he looks at me with grateful eyes.
The witch nods, "Forgive me, I phrased my words carelessly," he sighs, "What I meant to say was that a spell with such power should have taken effect immediately. You my Luna, said you have had these marks on you since you were a baby, right?"
I nod in reply.
"That's what confuses me. I can't figure out why it didn't work and why all these years later you are still alive, in such great health."
I scoff, "Hardly great health." I retort, making the witch raise an eyebrow.
"I was on the verge of dying and have been all my life, hanging on by a thread." I tell him, "The only reason I'm standing here is such great health is because of this." I point to the mark on my neck.??
The witch seems intrigued by this new information.
"Amazing," he whispers under his breath. He looks up abruptly, pointing his fingers and a brightness in his eyes.
"If the Death Spell hadn't been completed then it leaves the magic unfinished. In your case, my Luna, you were supposed to have died at birth yet because the spell hasn't been completed you were left with prolonged ill health."
There was a spark in his eyes as he practically danced his way over to me. He had clearly started to piece things together and the excitement was making him giddy, whereas I was still lost, my mind spinning with all his words.
"Since the spell was still on you, it meant that the magic was still working. You were going to die inevitably, just at a much slower rate. That's why you managed to live for so long."
What on earth was this man saying?
"But then you met Alpha Stone, who remarkably turned out to be your soulmate and his marking of you ended up breaking the Death spell!"
Demarcus threw his hands into the air, looking between both Zac and I with a wide smile.
"Bloody amazing..." He whispers, his chest heaving with exertion.
There was complete silence in the room.
We all stood around shell-shocked at this new discovery.
I spoke up first, needing to clarify this mess, "So you are saying a witch tried to kill me when I just a baby, by casting this death spell, which they didn't manage to complete, leaving me basically half alive and needing to live in fucking sterile room for all of my life?"
I was seething and it was clear that everyone in the room could sense it.
"And if I hadn't trespassed that day onto this territory and hadn't met Zac who is my soulmate and if he hadn't marked me, then I would still be under the Death spell and wouldn't be standing here like so."
Demarcus nodded, "Yeah, you would probably be dead."
I felt my body shake in fury, I had never felt so angry before. Something snapped inside me and this animalistic urge to kill something emerged from within me. It was like nothing I had ever felt before and I suddenly couldn't hear or see anything.
"EVE!!" I could hear several people calling my name but I couldn't see or hear them, it was almost as it someone had covered my eyes with a blindfold. When finally my sight returned, everything was in red.
I could see Zac, Jasper and Jayden and I could see Zac shouting at me, but I couldn't hear what he was saying, all I could see was his open mouth
moving. My eyes turned to the Elders and they were watching me with shock.
My eyes finally honed in on Demarcus who was backing away from me, his face showing me that he was terrified. He had his hands held out in front of him as if to distance himself from me.
A loud roar erupted in the room and it took me a second to realise that the sound had come from me. I wanted to stop and turn to Zac who was trying to approach me, still saying something I couldn't hear, but I couldn't react. It was almost as if my body was a car and I was sitting in the passenger seat with no control.
I felt my body move by itself as I flung myself towards a cowering Demarcus who had raised his arms and was ready to cast his magic to defend himself. Yet before my body could make an impact with his I was flattened to the floor by someone.
I knew it was Zac, I could sense him around me but the force of his takedown made me hit my head hard against the floor and I ended up blacking out.
Ok, what the fudge just happened? Lol
