1. Gemini Black #2
A few months ago, my sister was looking to upgrade her old car, and because I was a car man, that knew everything about nice whips, she came to me, asking me what she should get.
Easily, I threw the Macan at her. That car was so classy for a woman to have.
It was luxury, but at the same time, it wasn’t too loud.
I knew my sister wasn’t the kind of woman to be flashy, and over the top, which is why I recommended it for her.
Outside of that, I convinced her that it was reliable, and that it held onto its value.
She listened to her big brother because there it was parked right there in the driveway.
I pulled on the side of her, shut the car off, and quickly got out. Her ass had to have been watching the cameras or looking out the window because before I even made it to the front door, she came rushing out, wrapping her arms around me, jumping on me, and I could hear her squealing.
“You liar! I just talked to you yesterday and you said that you were going to be on the road for at least another week,” she said to me, pulling away from me, as she jumped down from my arms.
Seeing my sister standing in front of me, with this big ass smile on her face made me happy.
It made a nigga feel loved. Made me feel wanted and missed.
When I pulled up on my mama last night, she was just as excited.
She was damn near in tears when I walked through the door last night. Even my stepdad was happy to see me.
“I wanted to surprise you. What’s up? What you got going on? I missed you,” I said, being a typical brother, pulling her into me, so that I could put her in a headlock. She laughed as I did that for a few seconds, and then I let her go.
“I’m in there trying to finish prepping for tonight. I have a baby shower for almost one hundred people. I’ve been at it since like three this morning,” she responded, and her response made me smile.
A smile appeared on my face because I was a proud big brother.
These days, it seemed like every time I came home from being on the road, the jobs were getting bigger for her.
Just to think that a few years ago, she had been in law school.
Originally, the goal was for Gianna to be an attorney.
Since she was a little girl, she always spoke about being an attorney, but she found herself getting these degrees, studying for the bar exam, only to find herself in a place where she wasn’t happy for real.
She ended up dropping out of law school, with fears of telling our mama, and her daddy, thinking that they were going to be disappointed in her.
They were never disappointed, but they were on her ass about finding a new plan.
She came to them with the idea of becoming a chef.
Cooking is what made my sister happy. She’s been in the kitchen with our mother since she was a little girl, so she knew her way around the kitchen.
She immediately enrolled in culinary school, handled her business with that, and after graduating from the program, my sister hustled her way into the position that she was in now.
She turned her love for cooking into a legitimate business.
Had a whole company. Employees working up under her.
She was always booked, and they were talking about her all throughout Miami, saying how she had the best food in town.
“Shit, I hope you got some samples for me. I could use some greens, macaroni, meatballs, all that baby shower food,” I said, walking over to the door, but before I went inside, she rushed over, so that she could stand in front of me.
“Before you go inside, I just want to let you know that I have someone in there,” she warned me, and hearing that, I automatically assumed that it was a nigga inside, so I sucked my teeth.
“What? You got a nigga in there?” I shot, and like my question aggravated her, she rolled her eyes at me.
“No, I don’t have a nigga in there. My best friend is inside. You remember Amina, right?” she asked me.
“Amina? Amina? The name sounds familiar, but you gotta refresh my memory,” I said, and like I aggravated her again, she rolled her eyes again.
I watched her as she placed her hands on her hips, cocked her head to the side, as if she was appalled that I didn’t know who she was referring to, just off the basis of her saying Amina’s name.
“You know who Amina is, Gemini! My best friend! The one that moved away to London when we were kids,” she said, and the second she said that, that’s when I knew exactly who she was referring to.
Shit, I had my own life going on, and I couldn’t keep up with Gianna, and all the home girls that she had.
Because of the business that my sister was running, always catering these big events, and with her brand being so popular the way that it was, she knew a lot of people. Too many people for me to keep up with.
“Oh yeah. I know who you’re talking about now. What? She’s in town just visiting, or she’s back here for good?” I wanted to know. When I asked that, she sighed. I could tell that bad news was getting ready to follow.
“I’m not sure what her exact plan is, but she left London to come here for a little bit.
Just to clear her mind and get around a new atmosphere.
She was supposed to get married last month.
Her and her fiancé had been planning that wedding for almost a year.
I was supposed to fly up there a few days before the wedding, so that I could be a part of all the bridal party activities.
She never really went into detail about it.
She just told me that he called the wedding off, and just bits and pieces of it being another woman.
I didn’t want to press her with it, so that’s why I don’t know the full story.
I figured that when she’s ready to share what happened with me, she’ll do it on her time,” she told me.
“Damn. That’s crazy. She staying over here with you, or she just pulled up on you?” I wanted to know.
“She’s been over here for the past two days.
With everything that I just told you, you can imagine the depressing state that she’s in.
She just sits in the room, and pretty much stares at the wall all day.
Right now, she’s sleeping on the couch. This is the first time that she’s been to sleep since she’s been here.
When you come inside, just try to keep it down a little bit because I really want her to get some rest. I’m worried as hell about her,” she let me know.
I respected it, so I nodded my head, letting her know that I was going to keep it down.
I stepped out of the way, so that my sister could walk inside the house first. Gianna didn’t have any children, so her home was always squeaky clean.
Shit looked like something out of a showroom.
You can tell that she was always busy, on the move working because of how put together everything was.
It was the kind of home where you were left with no choice but to remove your shoes when you walked inside, so that’s what I did.
I placed my shoes by the front door, following her into the house.
The kind of floor plan that my sister had going on downstairs was the family room area was adjacent to the kitchen.
The family room is where I spotted Amina.
She was resting on her side with a throw blanket wrapped around her.
Her head was resting on her arm, and she was in a deep sleep.
I hadn’t seen her in years. The last time I saw her, she was a teenager.
Looking at her, all I could think to myself was that she’d grown up.
She was beautiful. Back then, I never looked at her in that kind of way because for one, I was four years older than her, and to be honest, I just had this rule where I never really found any of my sisters friends attractive.
I guess, I just knew that they were off limits for me.
I stared at Amina for about ten seconds, until I went into the kitchen area, where my sister was. I took a seat on one of the barstools that faced the island. I watched my sister as she pulled out two pans from the oven and sat them down on the counter.
“How long are you going to be in town for? Please tell me that you’re going to be here for at least a week.
You know what? I won’t even be greedy. At least say five days.
In those five days, I would like the pleasure of being able to spend at least two of them with you.
It’s so many things that I want us to do Gem,” she said, turning over to look at me with a smile on her face, and I already knew that this was the part where I was getting ready to break her heart.
“Nah baby. My last day here is tomorrow. I leave out first thing in the morning the following day,” I voiced, and just like I knew she would, she sucked her teeth.
“Gemini, what? You literally just got here! What the fuck!” she screamed, tossing the oven mitt down on the counter.
Because of the way that I was sitting on the stool, I was able to see what was going on from the corner of my eye in the family room. I could see when Amina jumped out of her sleep. Seeing that, I turned to look in her direction. Her eyes fluttered open, where she looked over at me, and Gianna.
