Chapter 28

. . .

Drew

“Should I die, I’ll come back and haunt you,” I hiss at Will.

And if he doesn’t take the shaky hand I’m offering, then I’ll never cross the threshold into the gondola.

He snorts a laugh as he pulls me into the cabin, wrapping me in a bear hug when the doors close, and we continue moving around the station. In around thirty seconds, there will be nothing between us and a nine-hundred-meter drop.

“What if the wire fails?” I bury my face in Will’s black hoodie.

He looks so hot in a backward baseball cap, although it won’t be enough to save him if anything goes wrong. I’ll puke in it and set it back on his head.

For saying we slept on the couch, I can’t remember the last time I drifted to sleep so easily.

This morning, Will made Marley and me black coffee and blueberry pancakes.

Greg was already at work, and from the moment Will broke the news of where we were going today, I’ve been wishing I were back in the office and listening to Lydia’s annoying voice.

The whole drive here in a fancy rental car, Will reassured me that it was “healthy to do something that scares you each day.”

All right, William, tell that to my stomach.

“Then I’ll make sure I hit the ground first and give you a soft landing,” Will croons, smoothing his hand down my hair.

I swallow hard, and he kisses me with smiling lips.

“Nothing bad is going to happen, Drew. Promise.”

“Are you sure no one will see us?” I gaze around the empty attraction. “This place is very … public.”

Will shakes his head. “I already told you, I hired the gondolas for an hour, so no one will know we’re here beyond the staff.”

“And when we get to the top?” I ask.

He shakes his head again, hugging me tighter. “Nothing to worry about either. You’ll see how private it is.”

“I actually might hate you for putting me through this, even if you hired the whole place out like a swoony book boyfriend,” I playfully scold him, feeling my stomach drop again.

Will keeps his arms around me as we glide off the platform and suspend midair.

“Total transparency,” he whispers and sets a chaste kiss into my hair. “I had no idea that your fear of heights was this bad. I’m already thinking of more days out like this, just so I have an excuse to wrap you in my arms.”

Last night, I wanted to sleep with him again, but I appreciated the way Will took his time, kissing and hugging me until I fell asleep on his chest. Today, I crave the safety of his touch even more.

Will is every bit the man I thought he was when we started working together, yet nothing like him at all. I love that he keeps me guessing, and I think I might be one of the lucky few people to see the real him.

“Do you think they have security cameras in these things?”

Will gazes around the cabin and shakes his head. “I thought they might, but I can’t see anything.”

Still looking up at him, I drop to my knees, fingers finding his belt buckle.

He covers my hands with his. It isn’t enough to stop me from unlooping his belt and unzipping his pants.

“What are you doing, Drew?” he asks in an unsteady voice.

I smirk up at him and dip my hand into his boxer briefs. He’s already hard, and when I wrap my fist around his shaft, he drops to the wooden bench behind him.

“We’re all alone, and I have at least fifteen minutes of hell to endure.” I lift a shoulder and pull his dick free, teasing the tip with my tongue. “I figured your cock could double as a handy distraction.”

Will fists my hair, eyes darkened with feral lust. “Are you going to use me, Baby?”

I bite down on my bottom lip and take him into my mouth. Not too far to begin with, but enough to have him shuddering.

It’s not lost on me that Will has had more blow jobs than I’ve had hot dinners, although I’m determined to make this one the best.

“All good boys deserve to be treated once in a while, don’t you think?”

Words fail him, and confidence inflates my chest.

When I press him deeper down my throat, he pushes his head back into the glass wall, eyes squeezed shut.

“Drew … Drew … Drew …” Will repeats my name on a whisper, fingers tangling in my hair the whole time. “Christ. Where did you learn to do this so well?”

I circle my tongue around the shaft and grin. “Do you really want me to answer that question?”

Will nods his head and then immediately shakes it, swallowing hard. “Yes—no—fuck. No, I don’t want to think about my girl with anyone else. You’re mine.”

I continue sucking him, brain short-circuiting at the possessive way he speaks about us.

Would I mind being Will Jones’s girl?

Never going to happen.

When he hardens in my mouth, I cup his balls in my palm and mumble, “Come for me,” around his dick.

“Drew, wait,” he says between gasps, tugging my hair so I’ll look up at him.

When I release his dick, it bobs between us.

“I’m going to shoot in your dirty fucking mouth.”

I beam up at him, reveling in his pleasure. “That’s what I want you to do.”

Will takes my chin between his thumb and forefinger. “You want me to blow between these pretty lips?” He runs his thumb along my bottom lip.

“Did you assume that I was too much of a good girl to be dirty once in a while?”

Will looks off to the side and immediately back at me. His eyes are now black, pupils blown wide.

“Take my cock to the back of your throat and hold it there.”

I click my tongue at him. “You want me to deep-throat you?”

He nods and inches his boxers down a little more. “Yeah, Drew, I want you to suck my dick like the demon you are.” His hand is back in my hair, tugging deliciously at the roots as I hover my lips over the tip. “You’re no good girl. Just a nasty slut, addicted to my cum.”

I take him deep and fast, bringing him closer to the edge each time I swallow him.

“Fuuuck!”

Will explodes, and I give him my eyes. I’ve never let a guy come in my mouth before today, but I’m already thinking of the next opportunity I’ll get to do this again with him.

When Will’s given me all he has, I release his dick, and he tucks himself away, maneuvering me to sit across his lap.

“Say something.” I giggle nervously after a minute of silence.

His fingertips dig into my jean-covered thighs. I think I might have rendered him speechless.

“I can’t,” he whispers after a few more seconds, staring directly ahead rather than at me.

“Why not?” I question, craning my neck to capture his attention.

It doesn’t work, and he swivels his cap around, pulling the bill over his eyes.

“Was it … bad?” I ask hesitantly, almost sure he enjoyed it.

“No,” he says with earnest. “I just can’t say anything right now, Drew.”

I decide not to push him. Mind spinning out over what went wrong in the last two minutes.

“It’s best if I keep my thoughts internal right now,” Will adds, moving his arms so they loop around my waist. “But that …” He finally looks at me with so much emotion. “You. Everything about you. Just … wow.”

Ten minutes later, I’m pleased to confirm that we’re both still alive, having reached the summit, and Will is back to his usual cocky self.

“Follow me.” Will guides me by the hand through a quiet woodland area until we find a small café nestled between pine trees.

“I didn’t even know this was here,” I say. “It wasn’t on their website.”

Will turns to look at me, upper lip raised in the corner. “Of course you’re one of those people who researches a place before she visits.”

I throw him a dubious glance. A forty-minute car ride is more than enough time to scan the visitor information for the basics. “I don’t trust people who go on day trips without making plans. How do you know where the nearest bathrooms will be? Or whether you’ll need to bring your own lunch?”

Still holding my hand, Will starts walking backward, voice laced with humor. “Are you serious? As in, like, a brown bag with an apple, sandwich, and a bottle of water?”

I feel my cheeks flush hot. “I mean, maybe? No one wants to be caught short, needing to pee or eat.”

My back is flat against a tree in a millisecond, Will’s tall figure looming over me.

He swivels his cap backward and drops his face into my neck. “Can I tell you a secret?”

“Of course,” I breathe out into the woodland, the smell of pine mixing perfectly with his familiar woodsy cologne.

He sets a kiss against my collarbone and pulls the collar on my blue parka back in place. “You know I’m part Canadian, right?”

I deadpan, “No, William. I wasn’t aware of your Canadian roots. Your dad only mentions it every Christmas.”

Will doesn’t argue because he knows I’m right. “On summer break, Mom and Dad used to stop here on our drive to Whistler. Hardly anyone, other than the locals, knows about this place.” Will pushes some hair out of my face.

He looks so freaking handsome every day, but today, I can honestly say that he’s spectacular. The sun outlines his broad frame and shoulders in a golden glow that looks almost mystical.

He gazes over his shoulder toward the café set behind us. “Secluded Sips does the best hot chocolate around. Every kind of flavor you can imagine, they have it. All the sprinkles plus Cadbury Flake, which is my personal favorite.”

I hesitate for a beat. “Wait a second. Are you trying to tell me that you, William ‘My Body Is a Temple’ Jones,” I mock, “actually like something that isn’t organic and not sourced from the purest virgin rivers known to mankind?”

His fingers find my ribs, and I burst out laughing, begging him to stop.

“Oh, I see how it is.” Will peppers kisses along my jawline. “I offer to buy you hot chocolate, and you proceed to berate me for looking after my body.”

He tickles me again, and now I’m crying out for him to relent.

“I thought you were ticklish that night we had dinner at my parents’ house.

And now I know for sure.” His fingers slow to a torturous pace.

“I plan to exploit your weakness every chance I get. If you play hard to get with me in the future, I’ll just use these”—he wiggles his fingers again, and I squirm—“until I break down all your willpower to resist me.”

Another few seconds, and he lets me catch my breath before I test to see if he’s ticklish. I’m left disappointed when he stands stock-still.

Will sets a palm against the tree above my head, and we make out for what feels like forever.

Today has been amazing, and I haven’t even sampled the best hot chocolate around.

“So, what happens once we get back to Seattle, Drew?” Will breathes against my damp lips. “Do I get to kiss you there too?”

When I boarded the flight to Vancouver, I felt sure that space was what I needed. As I stand against this tree, caged in Will’s arms, I know distance wasn’t what I was searching for.

“I want to carry on hooking up with you,” I confirm. “We’re having too much fun to stop now.”

Will’s hand slides down the trunk and cups my left cheek. The warmth of his big palm comforts me, just like his embrace did on the gondola.

“Good decision, Baby,” he croons. “I won’t let anything bad happen to you or your career. I’ll tear social media apart before anyone gets a chance to post one bad thing about the woman I can’t get enough of.”
