Chapter Fourteen #4

“A… ‘you thing to do’… are you saying that I’m an idiot?”

“You’re an adorable idiot,” Olive tells me, which is probably not the best compliment I’ve ever gotten.

“Thanks… I think?”

“Of course. Any time,” Olive says as she gives me a wink that I’m pretty sure is like an “Ah, my sweet friend who has chosen to light the world on fire” kind of wink.

“He’s cute,” I say, like that’s an acceptable excuse.

“‘He’s cute!’” Willow chokes out as she tosses her clothes on top of Olive’s so they stay clean.

“It’s like ‘Hey, Dad, don’t die from anger because dat boy is cute,’” Olive says with a huge grin.

Maybe I deserve that… but I don’t have to take it sitting down. “I have decided that my love for the two of you has decreased the longer you both talk,” I say. “And because of that, you get my bare ass to look at.” I turn my back to them as I undress.

“You think that’s how he hooked the vampire?” Willow asks.

“‘Oh nooooo, I’m so sorrrrry. Don’t look at my cute tush as I undress slowly to shift into a floofy puppers,’” Olive mocks. “‘Oh, I’m sorry, you big bad vampire with your Greek god face and your toned abs, don’t look at my fine behind!’”

“Fluff off, both of you,” I say before shifting.

They both laugh at me before shifting as well, and I decide that they’re both horrible people and bite Olive’s tail.

“ What the fuck !” Olive yells as she tries pulling her tail back.

“ And I didn’t make him look at my ‘tush.’ I just flashed it to him in case he wanted to ,” I say.

“ You did what ?” Dad growls in my head, telling me he’s far too close, and I just announced something that I should have taken to my grave to everyone nearby.

While I’m not officially a part of the pack, I think I’m still able to communicate with the others because I grew up with them and knew how to from a young age.

Since it’s a bit like talking out loud, only those who are close by can hear—which I didn’t think my father was or I sure as fuck wouldn’t have announced that.

“ I’m going to go play dead over here for a while ,” I say as I dramatically fall onto my side.

Olive and Willow seem amused as Olive jumps over me before bolting, likely because my father is heading this way. He’s a tall wolf with a menacing aura that I’ve ignored since I was young.

He growls at me to show his displeasure before trotting off.

Like… did he really have to come over just to grumble?

The other wolves fall into line behind him as I join up, enjoying the chance to stretch my legs.

Dad doesn’t say anything, just picks up a quicker pace and ignores Weston as the annoying asshole rushes me, like he thinks he’s going to get me to shy away from him.

“ You’re not part of this pack ,” he growls as he nips at me. He’s going to be horribly disappointed when I refuse to leave.

Dad would generally tell him to fuck off, but he knows my dad is pissed at me and is loving the excuse to become an absolute pain in my ass.

I ignore him as I join up with Olive and Willow who both hate him—I’m pretty sure he’s the main reason they both feel uncomfortable undressing in front of the others.

“ I’ll race you two ,” I say as I bolt past them, absolutely loving the spring night air cutting through my fur.

It’s been a while since I’ve run with them and I’ve honestly missed it.

I absolutely love stretching my legs, and with it so close to the full moon, my werewolf side is pleased to be out to play.

They rush after me, trying to catch up as I race deeper into the woods, but I’m faster than both of them and can stay a decent distance in front of them.

I dash past my father who seems to be more preoccupied with seething than running, which leaves everyone in the pack in an awkward mood—at this point, I’m afraid I might be the only one having a good time.

I run between the trees a moment before Olive and Willow draw back, and I turn to look just as Weston slams into me.

“ You think you can overtake our alpha? You should submit to him ,” he growls.

Since I wasn’t expecting him, he knocks me off my feet and I go skidding down onto my side. I roll back up before turning to look at him with my fangs bared.

I fucking hate this asshole. “ What the fuck is wrong with you ?”

Weston stalks toward me, standing tall, tail rigid as he growls at me. “ What the fuck is wrong with me? You are not part of this pack .”

“ I don’t have to be part of the pack to run with them. I was running with this pack long before you were a part of it .”

“ You give zero shits about the wolves, instead running over to the other side to bend over for that fucking vampire.”

I step toward him, refusing to back down like he wants. “ Fuck off. It doesn’t matter at all what I do or who I do it with because it has nothing to do with you. You are so insecure that you’re terrified my father would hand the pack over to me .”

I turn my back to him and start walking away as everyone watches us.

That apparently pisses him off just as much since he thinks I should be lying down with my throat exposed.

He rushes at me and clamps down on my side which, I’m going to be honest, I didn’t think he’d do, making pain spike into it.

I whip around, quickly snapping at him as he jerks back before I can get a mouthful.

He cries out and stumbles back as he shifts into a human, and I realize there’s blood dripping out of his mouth and I don’t think it’s all mine.

“What the fuck? What the fuck did you do to me?” he cries as he wipes at his face before realizing that it’s hurting his hands now too.

I’m the one over here that got chewed on and he’s screaming like he just bit into… silver.

Dad rushes over and shifts before grabbing him by the arm and hauling him over to the nearby creek.

“Wash your face off,” he snaps as he throws him into the creek with plenty of force.

If I weren’t so paranoid about the others finding out that I have silver rushing through my veins, I would have enjoyed the way Weston slammed into the water on his hands and knees.

“What the fuck did he do to me?” he yells as all of the wolves look between us in confusion.

“ You okay ?” Olive asks as she steps toward me, but I quickly back away, not wanting my blood laced with silver to hurt her.

“Weston, that is enough. This is my fucking pack, do you hear me? You would honestly attack him without my permission?” Dad asks, like he hadn’t been ignoring the shit Weston had been giving me, but Weston is far too concerned with the silver burning his mouth like acid.

“What the fuck did he do to me?” Weston repeats, and the looks others are giving me makes me realize they’re questioning it as well. What the hell do I say or do to answer that question? If it got out, they’d want to know how I was still alive, and then what?

And that’s when I hear the sound of a wolf cry.

I turn to look as the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, telling me that something isn’t right.

“ What was that ?” Benny asks.

Dad shifts back into his wolf form and rushes forward a moment before a vampire slams into him, throwing him so hard that the young tree he hits snaps.

“Oh? A party and I wasn’t invited?” the female vampire says in a mocking tone.

None of us heard a thing as she approached, telling me that she’s old. But what’s even worse is that behind her stands the vampire who’d flung me out the window. He’s laughing as he watches my father struggle to get up.

“Oh, Terrance! I heard you were a big bad wolf, and instead, I just found a little puppy dog!” he says.

Fuck, fuck, fuck. I need Casimir. I need his help, but my phone is back near the bar. There’s no way I could reach it and get him here in time.

“Stop toying with them, Yorick. Kill them,” she growls.

“Hazel… you’re dreadfully boring! I’m more of a sit back and watch them run kind of guy,” the vampire I assume is called Yorick says as more vampires fill in behind him.

There are at least six of them now, and even though there are close to twenty members of the pack here today, I know it won’t be enough against a group of vampires this old.

The woman Yorick called Hazel rushes for Willow since she’s the closest to her.

Olive pushes Willow back as I hurry forward to help.

Olive has never been a huge fighter, but I know she’ll do whatever she can to protect her sister, and I’m thankfully close enough that as Hazel slams into Olive, I lunge at her, grabbing the vampire’s arm and ripping her back.

I tear the vampire away just as her nails slice into Olive, but my distraction saved her from a deep wound. My fangs crush the woman’s wrist, but as a vampire it only takes mere moments for her to heal and fling me back.

“Hazel, don’t kill that one. That one’s going to be my new toy,” Yorick whines.

“Then fucking deal with him,” she barks as she tries to turn back to Olive, but I won’t let her.

“ Olive, take Willow and run !” I order. Willow whines, and I know they don’t want to leave me, but these vampires are old and powerful.

I clamp down hard on Hazel’s arm and shake my head, tearing through flesh and muscle as she tries to grab me by the throat. I dodge her attack only for another vampire to tear me off.

Fear spikes through me as I remember them ripping into me, tearing me apart and pinning me to the ground.

“Guys, stop! I said I like that one!” Yorick says as he manages to pull me back. He grabs me in some kind of hug from behind, so I twist out of his arms and land on my feet, growling at them.
