Chapter 351 Floras Hidden Trail
In the end, Zara still did not get to hit him.
After all, Lucian had bought this house.
Reality was brutally practical.
That evening, everyone ate dinner together. At the table, Zara suddenly brought something up. "Didn't you say last time that you had a clue about Uncle Robert?"
Lucian paused. "Yes."
There had been too many things going on, and he had only just finished dealing with them.
He wiped the corner of his mouth elegantly with a napkin before speaking.
"We followed the trail from Flora. We found several unusual anonymous transfers under her name.
After tracing them back, we identified someone.
Unfortunately, he's already fled overseas.
According to the surveillance footage from that time, he was the person closest to the scene of Uncle Robert's death. "
He continued, "The only reason we missed him before was that he looked completely unfamiliar in the footage, so no one connected him to the case."
If they had not found the abnormal activity in Flora's accounts, they never would have traced the matter back to that person.
Zara frowned. "Didn't you say this was connected to the other world? Why would they make murder so complicated?"
"Their methods of killing are still different from ordinary ones," Lucian said.
"This is just one clue. I've already sent people overseas to look into it.
But since this matter is clearly connected to Flora, it seems that woman is not as simple as she appears.
I originally thought she was just a useless pawn.
Now it seems the other world values her far more than I expected. "
Zara fell into thought. "Earlier, you asked me to look into Flora's whereabouts..."
Allen still had not updated her on that.
Lucian glanced at Zara. "I knew I couldn't rely on you. We already found her."
Zara blinked. "Where is she?"
"With Janet," Lucian said.
Zara fell silent.
There it was.
Everything had begun to connect.
As expected, Janet belonged to the White Clan. The White Clan wanted to start with the powerful families and economic lifelines, then use those channels to gain control over Earth.
Unfortunately, this was not a line Zara could handle.
She was better suited to brute-force methods. Matters of business and financial power were clearly Lucian's territory.
After thinking for a moment, Zara said, "But Janet was your childhood sweetheart."
Lucian looked at her.
For the first time, Zara felt that Lucian's gaze could genuinely make the air turn cold. His expression seemed almost polite, but there was a sharp chill beneath it.
"So?"
Janet had saved Flora.
Flora was connected to the person suspected of killing Uncle Robert.
Put those pieces together, and on a larger scale, Janet might be connected to Uncle Robert's death.
Zara fell silent.
[Lucian really is pitiful. In other people's stories, the childhood sweetheart comes back with deep feelings and dramatic romance. In his case, she comes back tangled up in a murder case. Tragic.]
Lucian was silent for a moment.
A vein throbbed on his forehead. "I'll speak with Janet. Based on your guess, do you think she belongs to the White Clan or the Black Clan?"
"The White Clan, probably," Zara said. "The Black Clan seems a little more upright."
[They're all idiots anyway.]
As soon as she finished speaking, Noctilion let out a cold laugh from the side. "When it comes to shamelessness and treachery, who could possibly compare to the people of the Upper Realm? Don't tell me you were actually fooled by a few pretty words."
Zara said, "There were no pretty words."
[So far, I've mostly relied on threats, intimidation, and a healthy amount of extortion. Morally speaking, I'm still... more or less fine. Ahahaha.]
Lucian went quiet for a second.
Then he suddenly pointed at Noctilion and said, "I'll take Noctilion with me. You can keep Aurelion and Dino."
Zara froze. "You're taking Noctilion? He's a wanted criminal."
Noctilion fell silent.
He had never cared about that before.
So why did it suddenly feel so discriminatory now?
Lucian said, "That doesn't matter. If I take Noctilion, I only need to take one. But if you keep Noctilion, then I'll have to take Aurelion and Dino with me too. After all, aren't Aurelion and Dino closet to you? You should at least consider their feelings."
Aurelion immediately lifted his neck and looked at Zara. "Did you hear that? After all the friendship we've built, you don't even need to consider our feelings? You're really going to keep a wanted criminal around? Does that sound good for your reputation?"
Noctilion snapped, "Who in this world even knows I'm a wanted criminal? Don't push me too far. Just because you're following her around doesn't mean I won't deal with you."
Zara fell silent.
[Honestly, I don't want to bring a single idiot with me. But who told the country to pay me?]
After thinking it over, Zara also felt Lucian's idea was workable. "Then take Noctilion with you."
Right now, Noctilion had no real power and had been threatened into obedience by her. He would not be much of a problem for Lucian.
More importantly, this black dragon looked like a scheming little villain from head to tail. If she kept him here, he and Aurelion would keep going after each other. What if they really caused trouble?
Zara waved her hand. "Fine. Take Noctilion."
Lucian nodded. "Alright."
Noctilion did not know Lucian. He had only noticed from the moment this man arrived that his status was not ordinary. Now that Zara was handing him over without hesitation, Noctilion immediately turned a scrutinizing gaze toward Lucian.
Lucian happened to look back at him. There was something deep and unreadable in his eyes, along with a faint trace of something else.
Mm.
One look was enough.
This one was the difficult one.
Noctilion made that judgment silently in his heart.
Zara handed the box containing Noctilion to Lucian, then thought for a moment and asked, "Lucian, you're not going to ask me for living expenses, right?"
Once money entered her pocket, taking it back out was honestly painful.
Lucian stared at her.
He almost rolled his eyes straight to heaven. "Keep it."
Zara immediately smiled brightly. "Got it, Lucian!"
[He said it himself. It's not like I refused to pay.]
Lucian was speechless.
Noctilion did not understand what was going on. He only looked at Zara with some mockery. "You can't even afford a little living expense? There's no need for you to pay. I have money."
He sounded extremely proud. Over the years, he had traveled far and wide, killed, robbed, looted, and accumulated enormous wealth.
Then he added, "But I didn't bring it with me."
Who brought money along when they came to fight?
Zara snapped, "Then why are you even talking?"
If this useless thing had money on him back then, he could have paid the protection fee on the spot. Would Zara have had to turn him over to the country?
After dinner, Lucian prepared to leave with Noctilion.
Zara gave him a symbolic and enthusiastic send-off. "Take care, Lucian. Come visit when you have time."
Lucian paused. "Do you remember who bought this house?"
"You did." Zara blinked at him, looking exceptionally innocent. "But my name is on it."
Lucian fell silent.
Heh.
Zara even called toward the room, "Soraya, your dad's leaving. Aren't you coming out to see him off?"
"Forget it," Lucian said.
Then he picked up Noctilion and left directly.
Zara watched him take Noctilion away, rubbing her chin thoughtfully.
Actually, she could tell that Lucian probably had another reason for taking Noctilion. But Noctilion really was not the obedient type. If Lucian kept an eye on him, he might end up being useful in other ways.
Still, she had to inform Allen.
However, Allen was extremely confused by Zara's habit of acting first and reporting later.
