Chapter 362 A Favor Zara Never Approved
Lucian took Zara to visit Great-Grandma.
The elderly woman had not been back in years, and her health could not handle another long, uninterrupted journey. She planned to rest in Magior for a while before returning home.
That meant Zara had to visit her every so often. Most of the time, Lucian brought her along.
Of course, he paid her.
Even family had to keep their accounts straight.
Around that time, Zara also received a call from Owen. When his name appeared on the screen, she nearly forgot who he was.
Owen said he only wanted to know how Ember was doing.
To reassure him, Zara made a special trip to the base and recorded a video of Thunderhorn strolling leisurely around the grounds. Only after watching it did Owen finally relax.
Owen was quite an unusual man. After all, he was the only person Zara had ever given a phone to without charging him a cent. She had, however, taken the opportunity to upgrade herself to the latest model.
After she sent him the video of Ember, Owen called again. His voice sounded slightly awkward.
"Thank you."
"No problem," Zara replied.
The government was feeding Ember, paying for everything, and even compensating her on top of that. There was really nothing to thank her for.
Of course, she kept that thought to herself.
A stretch of silence followed.
Owen seemed increasingly uncomfortable. "Well... I guess that's all, then."
"All right. Bye." Zara answered without hesitation and ended the call. Just before it disconnected, she thought she heard Owen let out a long, quiet sigh.
She had no idea what he was sighing about.
Couldn't he just tell her directly if something was wrong?
People who deliberately stopped halfway through a sentence never lasted long in TV dramas!
******
After dealing with all that, Zara was unexpectedly pulled into another situation.
This one involved Hubery.
Who was Hubery?
He was the former high school classmate who had added her on WhatsApp some time ago. Apparently, he had once been considered the heartthrob of their school.
But next to Lucian, even the best-looking man barely registered, so Zara had never bothered remembering who Hubery was.
If she had not seen his name in a WhatsApp message, she probably would not have remembered him at all.
The message came from Dylan.
He asked only one question.
Dylan: Zara, did you have a high school classmate named Hubery?
Zara stared at the message for nearly a full minute before finally remembering who he was.
Lucian's Beloved Zara: Uh... I think I did have a classmate by that name.
Dylan: Okay, got it.
The question came completely out of nowhere, so Zara could not help feeling curious.
Lucian's Beloved Zara: Why are you asking?
Dylan did not respond.
Ten minutes later, while Zara was wandering around outside, his reply finally arrived.
Dylan: Oh, it's nothing. He said he was your classmate and got himself into a little trouble, so I helped take care of it.
Lucian's Beloved Zara: What???
Lucian's Beloved Zara: What does his trouble have to do with me? You just helped him because he mentioned my name? Don't tell me you did it as a favor to me!
Dylan: Uh... wasn't he your classmate? It was only a minor problem. He said he knew you, so I helped him out a little...
Lucian's Beloved Zara: He was my classmate, but he has nothing to do with me! Why would you help him on my behalf?
More importantly, she normally charged people for this kind of favor!
Help him because they had gone to school together?
What kind of worthless connection was that?
When money was involved, Zara had no sentimental attachments whatsoever.
The more she thought about it, the more she felt she needed to find out exactly what had happened.
What had Hubery been thinking?
Why had he gotten into trouble and then dragged her name into it?
Dylan quickly explained what had happened.
Hubery had gone out drinking with a group of guys who ran in Dylan's circle. More precisely, one of them was one of Dylan's boys, while Hubery was merely that guy's hanger-on. In their social circle, he was about as low on the pecking order as anyone could get.
While the group was drinking at a bar, they got into a confrontation with another group of wealthy young men. The other side threatened to crack Hubery's skull open.
Dylan happened to be there. Desperate, Hubery begged him for help and blurted out that he had gone to high school with Zara.
Dylan stepped in because he thought Hubery was Zara's friend. That was why he had messaged her afterward to confirm it.
Zara fell silent.
By her calculations, Hubery's little cry for help had just cost her a hundred million dollars.
What the hell did he have to do with her?
Zara had no sympathy for someone like Hubery. Now that she knew what he had done, she was downright irritated.
He had used her name to save himself even though they barely knew each other. Why drag her into trouble when she had absolutely nothing to do with him?
Still, Dylan had already helped him, so there was no point complaining now.
Dylan could tell Zara was unhappy. Once he thought it through, he quickly realized why.
He had probably meddled where he should not have.
Unfortunately, Hubery had already slipped away.
Dylan silently decided that if he ever saw that punk again, he would teach him a lesson.
What kind of idiot casually used Zara's name like that? If Hubery offended the wrong people, they might blame Zara for it.
Still annoyed, Zara blocked Hubery without hesitation.
An idiot like that had no business staying in her contacts.
She had only accepted his request last time because they had gone to school together. She had planned to let him sit on her contact list like a complete stranger.
But since he had turned out to be the kind of troublemaker who used other people's names to save himself, deleting him was the obvious choice.
