Chapter 369 A Superpowered Woman
However, the glow from the wing did not disappear completely.
Everyone watched as the enormous wing in the sky suddenly shattered into countless streaks of light that rained down like a dazzling burst of fireworks. The fragments scattered into tiny points of starlight before slowly fading into the night sky.
"Holy crap, what the hell was that?!"
"Oh, my God! That was a wing!"
"An angel! It was an angel!"
"Angel, my ass! It had to be some kind of government projection!"
"Why has the government been pulling so much weird crap lately? Can't they at least keep their experiments under wraps? What if they scare ordinary people like us to death?"
Lucian watched as every last speck of light flowed back into his body.
He rubbed his forehead, feeling that he needed some time to process yet another unexpected blow to his understanding of reality.
"Sir, are you all right?"
The driver's voice suddenly came from the front seat. Lucian looked up and saw him watching with concern.
"You don't look well."
Then the driver glanced at Zara in his arms. "What happened to Miss Zara?"
Apparently, neither the driver nor anyone else had noticed what had just happened.
Lucian paused before shaking his head. His expression remained cool and composed. "Nothing. She fell asleep."
They had only been dragged into that isolated space for an instant. The others probably had no idea anything had happened at all.
Suddenly, the screech of brakes sounded ahead.
"What the hell?!"
"Is she trying to get herself killed, standing in the middle of the road like that?"
"Is that woman insane?"
Lucian and the driver looked forward and saw the woman from before standing in the middle of the street. If the driver ahead had not braked in time, she would have been run over.
She looked panicked as she glanced wildly around, her face filled with indescribable alarm. Under the glare of countless headlights, she appeared far less sinister than before, though there was still something distinctly unsettling about her.
Lucian was certain he had heard a man's voice just moments ago. It had sounded commanding and authoritative, but he had no idea where it had come from.
The woman stamped her feet in the middle of the road and screamed, "Who the hell do you think you are? Whether I overstepped the bounds is none of your damn business!"
For some reason, she was now speaking English, allowing every driver nearby to understand her perfectly.
"Where did this lunatic come from?"
"What's wrong with her? She looks completely insane."
"Jesus, she's so skinny. Does she have anorexia or something? Did it drive her crazy?"
"Her family just lets a mental patient wander around causing trouble? That's seriously irresponsible."
The drivers began laying on their horns impatiently. With traffic in Magior, one blockage could bring several entire streets to a standstill.
The woman ignored them completely. She no longer even had time to bother with Lucian. Having heard the man's voice, she was convinced he was behind this.
Most of her power had somehow been sealed, and she could not even tear open space anymore.
"Show yourself! Come out here!"
"Once I get my hands on you, you'll regret this! Do you have any idea who I am? Do you know where I came from?"
Her face twisted with rage and desperation.
One driver finally lost his patience. He leaned out his window and shouted, "I know where you came from. You escaped from a mental hospital!"
Lucian was speechless.
That man was truly fearless.
Judging by the traffic ahead, they would not be going anywhere for a while. Lucian lowered his gaze to Zara.
Her breathing was steady, and there was still a healthy flush in her cheeks.
Good.
At least she had not been taken away.
The woman had already been in a foul mood. When she heard the driver mocking her, she slowly lowered her head and fixed him with a sinister stare.
The driver could not help feeling nervous. Now that he was looking at her closely, he realized there was something distinctly inhuman about her appearance.
After they had stared at each other for more than two seconds, the woman suddenly raised one hand, her face completely blank.
An invisible force slammed into the driver's car, shoving it sideways with a loud crash into the vehicle beside it.
Everyone had seen it clearly. The two cars had been side by side, and neither vehicle's tires had moved. It was as though an enormous hand had simply pushed one car into the other.
And all the woman had done was wave her hand.
Everyone fell silent.
"Ahhhhhhh!"
"She's a monster!"
"Holy shit! Is that a superpower? Does she seriously have superpowers?!"
"I can't believe I'm actually seeing something this scientifically impossible in my lifetime!"
"Run!"
Chaos erupted instantly.
Those who reacted quickly abandoned their cars and took off running. Others simply stood there, too stunned to move.
People loved a spectacle, and several bystanders had started filming the moment the strange woman appeared. Their phones had captured everything clearly. Even as they fled, some of them kept recording over their shoulders.
Lucian was speechless.
What a fearless bunch.
Most of the drivers farther back had no idea what had happened. After the first few rows of cars, their view was completely blocked. All they saw was a huge crowd suddenly pouring out of their vehicles and running for their lives.
Panic was contagious.
Within moments, everyone else had jumped out and started running too.
One driver held his phone above his head as he fled. "Superpowers! It's a superpowered woman! Oh, my God!"
Everyone else was speechless.
The entire road descended into chaos. Calls flooded the Magior Police Department, and word of the incident spread at an astonishing speed.
As soon as the police heard the callers' frantic, incoherent accounts, they immediately reported the situation to their superiors. The report eventually reached Allen.
The moment Allen heard what had happened, he knew they were screwed.
There was no covering this up anymore.
Lucian remained seated in the car. His driver had also witnessed the impossible scene and was staring blankly ahead.
He swallowed hard. "Sir, should we..."
Run?
"Don't panic," Lucian said.
At least he knew the woman probably would not dare attack him again.
The driver fell silent.
He was panicking. He was panicking very much.
The woman was still scanning her surroundings. After realizing that everyone had fled, she cast a resentful glance toward Lucian. She had suffered significant injuries earlier and clearly had no intention of staying any longer.
She turned to run.
Just then, Zara slowly regained consciousness.
The first thing she noticed was the ache in her neck. When she opened her eyes, she found herself lying in someone's arms. The scent was strangely familiar.
She sat up and saw Lucian.
Zara's eyes widened in alarm. "What did you do to me?!"
A vein throbbed in Lucian's forehead. "I drugged you. Would you believe that?"
"I can't believe you'd do something so despicable!"
[Let me check whether I lost anything... My clothes are still perfectly in place. Good thing I woke up when I did!]
Lucian was speechless.
She was unbelievable.
He cupped Zara's face in both hands and physically turned her head toward the fleeing woman.
"Look over there. That's what matters. She's the one who did this!"
Zara caught sight of the woman's retreating figure, and her eyes narrowed sharply.
She remembered everything.
