Chapter 16

Falcon

Prisoner. She said she wasn’t interested in being a prisoner anymore. I wanted to ask her what the hell she meant, but Mama Hen already made me feel like shit for tackling her when she was just scared. She didn’t know me, or the club, and she was hundreds of miles from home.

I was certain that home wasn’t a great one since she was so willing to come with me, but I could see how all of this would be hard for a woman in her position. I decided to let Mama Hen chat with her and hopefully make her more comfortable with her current situation.

Even though I hardly knew her, I knew she was mine. I didn’t plan on her leaving. But I didn’t just need her to trust me, I needed her to know that now, with me, with us, she was safe. At least as long as I could keep her at the clubhouse.

After she finally finished up in the bathroom, I escorted her to Mama Hen’s so they could talk away from the nosy bunnies. She walked gingerly but her ankle probably wasn’t that bad. The wrap would keep it stable just in case.

I got shooed away by Mama Hen once I got Daisy settled, so I headed back to the clubhouse. I needed to see Hawk.

He was at his table in the corner, so I sat down. “Hey, man. Sorry I didn’t make it down last night.”

He nodded. “Yeah, I expected you back. Get caught up with your girl?”

“Got caught up with sleep, man. But I’m sorry. I know you wanted us all down.”

Hawk tapped his finger on the table. “It was just a party. But try not to go MIA again.”

“Yes, sir.”

Hawk grinned then smacked his hand on the table. “Where’s your girl now? Did you take her to see Ma?”

“Yeah. Hopefully she can put her mind at ease.”

“So, she is your girl now? You insisted she wasn’t yesterday.”

Shrugging, I answered, “I guess. But I’m not ready to claim an old lady yet.” That was true. But I did know I didn’t want anyone else touching her. The guys here were solid. You didn’t have to claim a woman as our old lady but could claim one for yourself. Most of us just didn’t because that still gave some women a big head and they acted like an old lady when they weren’t.

“Sugar was sulking last night.”

I ran my hand down my face. “Good, she needs to move the fuck on.”

Hawk chuckled and then waved someone over. I looked over my shoulder and saw Keys headed our way.

His short blond hair was standing up like he’d been tugging at it. His eyes were red rimmed. He had probably been staring at his computer for days. He wasn’t an officer, but he was respected for his brains and his brawn. He was the smartest dude in the club and wasn’t scared to get his hands dirty. We just didn’t often pull him from behind the screen.

“Prez. I’m sorry to report this but I still can’t find shit on the SUV.”

Hawk didn’t show any disappointment. It was like finding a needle in a haystack, but Keys insisted he would try. Instead, he lifted his chin and said, “I appreciate you trying. We got more eyes and ears on the street. Maybe add a few cameras at the businesses. If anyone is scoping us out, it’ll be easier to spot.”

“I have appointments the next few days. Me and Eagle can try to get folks to keep an ear out.” I had to figure out if I was going to make Daisy come with me or just ask her and hope she would. I didn’t expect anyone to chase her down, and I wasn’t sure how she felt about being cooped up in the room all day, either.

“Falcon? Hello?” Hawk said as he waved his hand in my face.

“Sorry, still haven’t caught up on sleep I guess.” Shit. The club came first no matter what. I had to get my mind right.

“Hey, man,” Eagle said as he pulled up a chair, flipping it around before he sat. “Busy night with your girl?”

“Maybe soon, but last night I passed the fuck out. What about her friend?” I asked, hoping it would get the subject of Daisy dropped.

Eagle tucked his brown hair behind his ears before he rested his elbows on the back of the chair. “They’ve had a rough go. We came down for a few after she got cleaned up and had a few drinks, but I let her sleep it off. She’s still up there. But she’s not fucking bad to look at.”

We all grunted in unison. We had a lot of pretty bunnies, but they’d been around a while. Fresh meat was always nice. Except Daisy wasn’t meat; not club ass. She was mine.

“I’m going to go check on Mama Hen. That woman is ferocious when she wants to be.” Bullshit . Mama Hen was fine and could hold her own. I needed to see Daisy .

My brothers all waved me off and I left the clubhouse. It was still slow and quiet since it was early in the day. Most of the bunnies and the guys were working their day jobs or sleeping off last night. It would pick up again later, and I’d definitely have to show my face since I skipped last night.

Daisy would also need to meet everyone. Better to get it out of the way if I planned to keep her here. At least until we knew shit was safe.
