Chapter 49
CHAPTER FORTY-NINE
Lexi
“Do you want the Alfredo with chicken and vegetables, or spaghetti and meatballs for dinner?” I ask Camryn as the two of us walk through the aisles at the store.
“What does Bennett want?” she asks and I laugh.
“What do you mean what does Bennett want? What makes you think Bennett is coming over for dinner?”
“Because I texted him already and asked.” She shrugs like I should already know this and I reach in my purse to grab my phone. Sure enough she’d messaged him earlier today.
Me: Are you coming over for dinner? -Cam
Ben: I’ll be there, small fry. Probably not until after six though.
“When did you use my phone?” I swear she is like a tiny little ninja.
“When you were washing your hair.” She reaches up, standing on her tiptoes and attempts to grab a container of strawberries. I grab them for her, placing them in the cart and watch her go back for the blueberries.
We continue through the store, gathering everything on our list and a few things that aren’t. Finally, we decide on the chicken Alfredo with vegetables for dinner.
As we are standing in the checkout loading our things on the belt a woman from the next aisle looks over the rack separating us. “Hey, you’re uh,” she points to Cam and I instantly feel a protective hold take over. Reaching out I place my hand on Camryn’s shoulder and pull her back to me.
The lady looks somewhat familiar.
“It’s not nice to point,” Camryn speaks up and if the situation was different I would laugh.
“Oh I’m sorry.” She pulls back her hand. “But I met you at the fall festival,” the woman adds, still looking at Cam and not me. “You were with Bennett.”
That’s when it hits me. It’s Emily, his ex, and the one I saw him talking to.
She finally looks over at me, holding out her hand. “I’m Emily, and you are?”
I don’t shake her hand, I’ve heard enough to know already she is playing a role. She knows who I am.
“Lexi,” I say, still shielding Camryn.
“Sorry.” She wrinkles up her brows. She is definitely not sorry as she dismisses me and continues on, waving her hand. “I’m here visiting family, but I’m not sure I remember you from Hudson. Have you lived here long?”
I was in town visiting Sutton and we’d stopped off at the market, before heading back to Montgomery. If I’m being honest I prefer shopping at the quaint little market versus the crazy one a few blocks from my apartment.
Camryn had busied herself with a few of the small little toys the stores tend to hang right by the checkouts.
I was feeling very territorial and trying not to act like a child in front of the child.
“I don’t live here, yet,” I say, deciding how I want to play this out. I decide on putting a snag in the game I know she’s trying to play. “Bennett is finishing up our house, but I have a lot of friends that live here currently. So we are over here pretty much every day.”
She nods. “Oh yeah, he said something about a house when we ran into one another. He promised me a tour.”
“No, he didn’t,” Camryn interrupts and until then I didn’t think she was listening. “You asked, and he didn’t answer.”
I want to laugh at the horror on Emily’s face at being called out by a six year old.
“Oh sweetie.” She waves her off much like she did me. But with Cam it seems to piss me off a little more and I feel a pinch of anger hit me.
“Don’t dismiss her.” The words are out of my mouth before I can stop them.
“Yeah, don’t dismiss me,” Camryn repeats and this time I do laugh. She is on most days mirroring the antics of Bennett, right in his pocket it seems. But there are times, like right now, that she is my mini me and I couldn’t be more proud.
“Can we go now?” Camryn asks, turning her back to Emily. “This conversation is boring me.” I bite my lip and immediately remember Kendall saying that very thing the other day when she was dissing Aaron who was getting on her nerves.
I hug her close and spin her around, so now my back is facing Emily. “You are a rock star,” I tell her, kissing the top of her head. “It was boring me too,” I assure her and hug her tight. “Let’s get this stuff home and start dinner before Bennett gets there.”
“Shh,” he whispers near my ear as he steps in the shower, forming his body to mine from behind. “Cam is still sleeping.”
It was barely after six in the morning when I climbed out of bed and started a shower. It is my weekday routine. Get up, shower, make breakfast, and get out of the door by seven forty-five.
Drop Camryn off at school, stop off at the coffee shop for my latte, and make it to the office before nine.
I don’t mind the occasional setback. Especially when it comes in a six foot three man with strong hands that knows exactly where to touch me.
I close my eyes when his palm slips around me and spans out over my lower stomach. Pulling me back, his lips begin dancing over the side of my neck, and along my shoulder.
I can feel him growing hard behind me and I wiggle making him moan.
“I think you are the one that needs to be told to be quiet,” I tell him just before I wrap my fingers around him. Slowly stroking him he bites my shoulder and moans again.
Turning me around, his mouth finds mine and I am pinned to the shower wall. “Why every time you touch me do I feel like I am seconds from exploding?” He doesn’t let me answer. “I fucking love when you touch me.”
Hooking my thigh he lifts my leg and quickly Bennett shifts forward. Entering me, I let my head fall back against the shower wall and I don’t even notice I’ve made a sound.
“Shh.” He smiles with his lips pressed to mine.
“This is going to be hard and fast baby,” he tells me.
I’m on overload as his movements increase.
Trying to hold onto him, while also trying to control the urge to scream out his name, it’s all too much.
I bury my face in his shoulder, and my orgasm hits me with a vengeance.
Again Bennett moans and then I feel him let go.
My head is foggy with the aftermath I try to slow my breathing as he continues to hold me close.
Slowly releasing my legs I stand, wobbly legs and all, his hands gripping my hips. Still neither of us say a word.
Then there is a knock at the door and we both freeze.
“Lexi?” Camryn hollers. “I have to pee.”
My eyes widen, so do Bennett’s as we both try to weigh out our options.
“There is no easy way out of this.” He chuckles and I poke him in the ribs. “What?”
“Get dressed,” I tell him, “and then pretend to be fixing the sink.”
“Are you serious?”
“I don’t know,” I say, hanging my head.
“Babe.” I lift my gaze to meet his. “She knows we are together.”
“That doesn’t make it any easy to explain why you and I are in the shower together, naked.”
“We can’t shower with our clothes on.”
“Bennett,” I say in a warning tone, this is not the time for his sarcasm and humor. He steps back, opening up the shower door to step out.
I hurry out after him, towel off and grab my robe. “Distract her,” I say, pointing to the door. “I’ll slip out and she will never know.”
“Oh she knows.” He slips his shirt over his head.
“Will you stop being a pain in my ass, and just do it.”
I step over behind the door, he opens it and I can see through the crack in the door. She is rubbing her eyes. “Hey, little fry,” he says, reaching out to rough up her hair. “You’re up early.”
“I heard someone yell.”
I cover my mouth and hang my head. When I look back up, Bennett is guiding her into the bathroom waving his hand for me to exit. Using his body to block her line of sight I slip out and down the hallway.
Shortly after Bennett comes out and meets me in the kitchen. “I think you are putting too much thought into this. I doubt she even noticed.”
“Why do you both have wet hair?” Camryn asks from the doorway and again Bennett and I freeze where we stand. Cam is looking back and forth between us both with her brows furrowed.
“Um.” Oh shit!
“What do you want for breakfast, little lady?” Bennett goes in for the detour and I do the mature thing. I go hide and blow dry my hair.
