Chapter 7
Freya
The past few nights with Connor have been heaven, and I've almost let loose the L word several times now. I can't let myself do that, because I still have secrets.
"Are you ready, kitten?"
"I am. Do you think your friends will like me?"
"Well you've met Brody and Brock and they seemed to like you. What's really important is that I like you, not anybody else."
"Will you be jealous if they like me more than you?"
He comes to where I'm standing and takes me into his arms.
"What's most important to me is that you feel at home here in Hunter's Peak. If anyone makes you feel uncomfortable all you have to do is tell me."
"Or, I could talk to them myself and see what the problem is."
"There's that option, but that wouldn't be fun for me."
"You'd enjoy tearing into your friends because of me?"
"I enjoy being the savior."
He leans in and gives me a scorching hot kiss, and then smacks me on the ass.
"Go get in the truck, or we'll be late."
We have to go up the mountain in order to get to Brody and Sasha's place. They have a heated deck on the back of their house, and we're going to have a little picnic. It's still cold out, but they said the heaters make the area comfortable to spend time in.
I'm bringing some homemade cookies and am excited to spend time with other couples here in the area.
These will be our go to friends. Both couples have children, but today is a child free afternoon.
We arrive in a few minutes and see that there's another truck parked there already. Must be Brock and Savannah.
We're welcomed into Brody and Sasha's home and directed to the back of the house. It's warm enough that I'm able to take off my jacket and put it aside. Connor introduces the ladies and I go sit with them. I want to know any gossip they might have about Connor.
Someone makes a batch of margaritas and I limit my drinks to two. I can get chatty when I'm drunk and I want to avoid that. While the men grill the meat, we huddle together.
"Freya, how is it going with Connor?" Sasha asks.
I have the decency to blush at the question.
"Things are moving fast. I…what can you tell me about him? Any past girlfriends that I need to watch out for?"
"I've known him for about three years, and he's always been focused on work. The ladies of Hunter's Peak have been pining for him now that you've arrived with the intention of marrying him."
"The Perfect Bride Agency has good references and their counselors are top notch."
"Hey that's the agency Brock's uncle hired for our engagement as well." Savannah says.
"What I can tell you is not to keep any secrets from each other. It almost ruined my relationship with Brock."
"It all seems to have worked out now, you seem very happy."
"He's the love of my life."
"Have you guys talked about your feelings yet?" Sasha asks.
"I think it might be too soon for that, don't you?"
"Not with the way he looks at you, Freya. He's got the hots for you."
The words make me blush and as I try and catch a glimpse of the men, Connor is indeed watching me. He gives me a smile and salutes with his beer bottle and turns back to the grilling.
"I see what you mean. I'm still trying to corral my own feelings."
"Do you see Hunter's Peak as somewhere you can spend the rest of your life in?"
"I'm a city girl, but the mountain calls to me. Were you both from around here?"
"I lived in a town close by and Savannah is from Chicago. We both love it here and have made lives with our mountain men. I think if you allow yourself to feel your feelings for Connor you'll find this place is a great place to make a life together as any other, so long you two are together."
Sasha's words sound true to me, and when we leave later on at night, I hug them both close and thank them for their advice. I definitely have some thinking to do about Connor Michaelson and our relationship.
