Chapter 17
SEVENTEEN
SUTTON
“ H ey, Sutty! Are you almost ready to go? We have to hit the road if we want to avoid all the traffic going ba-”
Her words are cut short as she takes in the sight before her, eyes going wide.
“Oh my god! Are you okay?”
I scramble to flush the toilet, wiping the back of my hand across my mouth as though it would hide what she just walked in on. My cheeks flush, gaze dropping to the ground.
“I’m fine, Lena. My stomach is just upset. I’m probably just coming down with something, or maybe I ate something that wasn’t fully cooked at the bar last night. I’ll be fine.”
She hesitates, and I can see the questions in her eyes as she looks over to the now-empty toilet before looking at me once more.
“Maybe I should call Cal. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind driving - ”
“No!” I pause, collecting myself. That was way too big of a reaction and she’s going to think it’s weird. Shit. Get yourself together, Farley. Okay. Breathe. Calm . Inhale. Cool. Exhale. Collected. Inhale. I slowly let out my breath once more before trying again.
“Really, we don’t need to bug Cal. That’s asking a lot for him to have to drive all the way there and back before classes tomorrow. I’ll be fine, really. I can drive. We just need to find a quick-mart or something before we leave so I can get some Pepto in my system. There. That should placate her.
I can still see the concern in her gaze, and her voice is hesitant as she responds. “Are you sure you don’t want - ”
“Really, Lena-Bug. I’m good. Or at least, I will be. My stomach feels more settled now, anyway. Let me just get cleaned up and brush my teeth, and then let's find a quick-mart. Can you look it up on your phone?”
Nodding, she pulls out her cell and begins to search for the nearest store that might have some medicine. Good, hopefully that will distract her. God knows the last thing I want is for her to tell Cal what she walked in on. Ugh. Can you just imagine?
