29. Cursing Her Future Husband

CURSING HER FUTURE HUSBAND

F ive weeks later, Angel boarded the Bond Jet at Logan Airport.

Somehow she was getting married in two days in the Bahamas.

Yep, money talks.

“Are you ready for this?” her mother asked.

“Not like I can change my mind,” she said, smiling.

“Of course you can,” her mother said. “No one is forcing you. Are you really unhappy and don’t want to?”

“I want to,” she said, looking at her future husband talking to his brothers. No big wedding. Immediate family only. Parents and siblings and no one else.

It was probably better this way.

Most of the extended Bond family knew about her relationship with Coy. Very few knew about the baby. Plenty were going to be shocked when they found out about the marriage too.

Then they wouldn’t be once they learned all the facts.

Not even anyone in the office knew what was going on. Only that she and Coy were going out of town for a family event and the office was closed half a day today and a full day tomorrow.

Spencer and her parents flew in last night so there were no worries they’d miss the private four-hour flight.

“Then relax and enjoy this. You don’t even have to worry about your wedding gown not fitting.”

“Good point,” she said. “I’m sorry I’m taking this big wedding away from you and Dad.”

“We don’t care about that,” her mother said. “I’m more concerned about you feeling as if you didn’t get what you wanted.”

“I’ve never been one that liked all that much attention on me. I’m okay with this.”

Coy took care of everything. All the arrangements. He gave her options and she picked from his options, then Helena and her mother did the rest. She said she wanted to be surprised just like everything else that seemed to be happening in her life.

“We are all thrilled,” her mother said. “We really are, but it’s more important to us that you’re happy.”

“I’m going to enjoy myself and everyone else should too. We all get a mini vacation. Spencer needs it.”

“I think he does too,” her mother said. “Go sit by your future husband.”

She moved over to where Coy was sitting and seated herself by him. Amanda looked uncomfortable and was due in six weeks. She thought for sure Amanda would opt out of coming, but her doctor told her she was safe to travel.

It was nice talking to Amanda some and she did get to see what to expect. Not always pleasant either.

But nothing she could do about it.

“How are you feeling?” Coy asked when she sat down.

“Fine,” she said.

“You’ve been tired a lot,” he said.

“Which is normal. I’ve got more energy in the second trimester now. I don’t know that I’d want to do this later in the pregnancy.”

“Then it’s perfect timing,” he said, holding her hand.

“Sure,” she said. “It is.”

He leaned over and kissed her. “You can still run, Angel,” Bode shouted. “No one will stop you.”

“I would,” Spencer said. “She’s not getting off the plane in Massachusetts until her last name is Bond.”

“Put a cork in it, Spencer,” her mother said.

Her brother was laughing. He was being a good sport about it now. Maybe he did just have to process it more.

Or could be Spencer was happy that she’d moved in with Coy quickly and they were getting married.

It’d been hard to keep this all a secret, but with no engagement ring on her finger, no one had a clue.

Coy had asked her if there was anything special she wanted in terms of a ring and she said no. She was a simple person. She wasn’t sure what to get him for a band, but he’d made a few comments about Bode’s black band so that was what she bought him.

“Don’t be jealous that I’m stealing Coy from you. We told you you could still have that suite. We won’t give it to anyone else yet,” she said to her brother.

There was a lot of laughter on the plane over that.

Then the pilot came on and told them to buckle up, they were going to take off soon, everyone settled in for the flight.

By hour three, she was struggling to keep the vomit from coming up and had to go to the bathroom.

She had no idea how much time had passed, but she was in there tossing up her lunch and cursing her future husband at the same time.

“Are you okay, Angel?”

It was her mother. Thankfully the bathroom was bigger on the jet than a regular plane.

“I’m sick,” she said.

“Open the door,” her mother said.

She did and Helena was there with her mother. “I’ve got some ginger ale for you. I could see that shade of green across the plane. You lasted longer than I thought you would.”

“I never get sick traveling.”

“It’s the baby,” her mother said. “It happens. Have you felt this any other time?”

“Just in the helicopter, but that was a short trip and it was my first time in one. The wind was crazy too. I don’t even get sick at work or anything now and trust me when I tell you that might be the place it could happen with the things I see in people’s mouths.”

“You’ve at least got your sense of humor,” Helena said. “Drink this slowly. I’m going to go calm Coy down. He was starting to get anxious and I told him to let us take care of this.”

“Great,” she said to her mother. “He’s going to start babying me.”

“Don’t think of it that way,” her mother said. “I know you’ve got a history of it being done to you, but Coy isn’t doing it the same way Spencer and your father did. This is out of love also, but in a different form. I was sick when I was pregnant with Spencer and not you. Your father acted the same way. He said he hated to see me that way knowing there wasn’t anything he could do about it.”

“Nope,” she said. “If I knew this was going to happen, I would have asked my doctor for something.”

“There are pharmacies in the Bahamas. When we land, call the on-call service and see if they will call something in for you.”

“I’ll do that,” she said.

After a few more sips of ginger ale, she felt much better and made her way back to her seat. Everyone was going to know what was happening, but she wouldn’t be embarrassed about it.

“Better?” Coy asked.

She sat next to him and he pulled her close so that she could snuggle under his arm. She felt safe and secure there and nodded her head, closing her eyes.

The next time she opened them, it was Coy saying they’d landed and could get off the plane.

“That is the way to go,” she said. “Sleep through it.”

She stood up slowly to make sure she wasn’t dizzy and then walked off the plane. Coy got their luggage and her father was carrying her dress for her.

Several rental vehicles were waiting for them; they all got in and drove to the resort they’d be staying at.

“Are you hungry for dinner? Everyone was trying to figure out where to go. Liam and Gemma slept through most of the flight too so they are going to get a second wind.”

“I’m starving,” she said.

“Tomorrow shouldn’t be that long of a day. We have the rehearsal later at night and my mother and yours will check on everything else.”

“Nothing we need to do?” she asked.

“Not unless you want to go over the plans.” They climbed into the SUV and pulled out. “You haven’t wanted to be too involved.”

He sounded hurt over that. “It’s just not me. I never thought I’d be a bridezilla.”

“No one could say that,” he said, laughing.

“Does that bother you?” she asked. “That I’m laid back about it? I’m just trying not to be a pregnant-zilla. Is that a thing?”

“No,” he said, smiling. “I just don’t want you to have regrets. I know I pushed for this.”

“I love you, Coy. Don’t doubt that.”

“I never would,” he said.

“But I’m concerned you’re doing this because I’m pregnant more than anything.”

“Angel. I love you and you know it. I don’t know how to get you to understand that. The timing of putting the ring on your finger is moot.”

“I know you love me,” she said. “I don’t doubt that. But I don’t want you to have regrets either.”

“There is nothing to regret. Everything I ever wanted is in this car.”

She smiled and started to sniffle. “It was the right thing to say, but it doesn’t change the fact everything is moving so fast.”

“I want you to be happy,” he said. “Answer me this. Are you?”

“Absolutely. Are you?”

“More than I ever thought I’d be,” he said.

“That is answer enough,” she said. “We can enjoy the next few days with our families. We get a one-night honeymoon too. I want to pick on Spencer and ask if he’ll guess what we are going to do that night.”

He started to laugh. “Might not be the best thing to say, but Bode might do it anyway to just get your brother going.”

“Everyone seems to be happy too,” she said.

Angel had to admit everyone was in good spirits. Her fear that his family would think she’d trapped him was nonexistent at this point.

Whether other people felt that way or not, she just had to let it go.

If only it was that easy.
