Chapter 10
CHAPTER 10
Logan
I couldn’t believe Spencer had been working himself half to death for me . To give me a life I’d never had. I kept wracking my brain, trying to figure out when I’d ever given him the impression I needed more from him or Ezra, but I couldn’t find a single time I had. I was happy with what I had with them. We could be dirt fucking poor, and I’d still be a happy man because they were mine .
I didn’t need Spencer to be a hotshot doctor that worked more than he was ever at home just so he could give us a big house, lavish vacations, and expensive fucking cars. I just needed him . He and Ezra were all I would ever need. Fuck, they were all I could ever want . They’d given me a reason to live, to be a better man, to heal and not let my trauma guide me through life.
Leaning back on the lounger, I cupped Spencer’s tear-stained cheeks and brushed my thumbs over his sun-kissed skin, wiping away some of the dampness. “I love you,” I told him, hoping he could hear the sincerity in my voice. “I love you not for what you can give me but just for you . I need to know you understand that, Spence.”
He nodded and closed his eyes, his wet lashes resting on his cheekbones. “I just… I want to give you the world, Logan. You deserve the world after everything you’ve been through.”
My chest felt too fucking tight, and for a moment, I didn’t know how to make my lungs work. Couldn’t take in the breath I desperately needed to. But when he opened those pretty eyes, looking at me again, I suddenly remembered.
How could this man not realize he and Ezra were my reason for fucking breathing? If not for them, I would have given up on living the day I’d been brutally assaulted by my dead mother’s boyfriend at the time. I would have succumbed to my injuries and given up . But I pushed through for them . Because no amount of physical and mental torment could ever make me want to leave them.
I leaned forward again and dropped one of my hands to grab Ezra’s. He squeezed my hand as he rested his chin on Spencer’s shoulder. “Being married to the two of you and getting to spend the rest of my life with you two is giving me the world already, pretty boy. And if you want to give me more, if you want me to be selfish, then I want you to quit the hospital. If you still feel the need to work, find a job that has set hours, where you can get up at a reasonable hour, come home and have dinner with us, and spend time with us on the weekends. If you need me to be selfish, that is what I’m asking of you.”
Spencer nodded. “I’ll quit,” he promised. “I’ll borrow Dad’s laptop, and I’ll send a letter of resignation in before dinner. Okay?”
I pressed a soft kiss to his lips. “Okay, pretty boy.”
Ezra gripped my chin, turning my head to face him. “Just so we’re clear, we always want you to be selfish with us, Logan. Just as you want to spend every waking moment with us?—”
“I’d split myself in half and bury myself beneath your skins, if I could,” I said, interrupting him, my lips tilting up into a smirk.
Spencer grimaced. “Graphic,” he muttered.
Ezra huffed. “We want to spend every waking moment with you, too. I know we all got lost somewhere along the way, but this is why communication is important. We need to be more open. Okay?”
Spencer nodded. “I promise I will,” he said, looking at me before turning his head to look at Ezra. Ezra softly kissed him. “I’m really sorry I somehow fucked all this up.”
“You didn’t fuck anything up,” Ezra and I said at the same time.
“I get wanting to give him everything after everything he’s been through,” Ezra continued when I remained silent. “But Logan is an adult, and he’ll speak up if he needs something from one of us. It’s easy to make assumptions, to think that all this money, our big home, and our nice vehicles are things he wants.”
“We could lose all of that today, and I’d still only want the two of you,” I confessed. I slid my fingers into Spencer’s hair, scraping my blunt nails along his scalp. “Okay?”
He nodded. “Okay.” Blowing out a harsh breath, he wiped his palms on his swim shorts. “I need to go find Dad and ask to borrow his laptop.”
I nodded and pressed a soft kiss that lingered to his sweet lips. “Come on. We’ll go find him together, and then, we’ll all go get some food. Sound good?”
Spencer smiled and nodded. “Sounds great.”
Ezra pressed a kiss to Spencer’s shoulder before standing and stretching, all those muscles flexing as he did so. When he caught Spencer and I staring, he winked at us. “Later,” he promised. Holding out his hand, he wiggled his fingers at Spencer. “Come on, baby. You’ve got a job to quit.”
