Chapter 25

Chapter Twenty-Five

Bellonna

“They keep most of their guards along the outer perimeter. Smart logic, but it’s their one flaw when it comes to me, since we won’t be coming in that way. We’ll be showing up right at their front door. The back door is the least covered. There are two other entrances besides those. We’ll each take one. The church is two stories, and my gut tells me we’ll find her on the second floor.”

“It’s going to take us some time to get to Calverton. And while you can bypass the guards on the perimeter, the MC can’t,” Warrick speaks gruffly.

“No, it’s not. I have the travel plans handled.”

“How?” he asks again, and I shake my head. Does he really not know who I am?

“I’ll transport you. You two each have a round-trip ticket via Airline Bloody Mary. There will be no in-flight movie or snacks and the complete travel time will be five seconds.”

“Hell yeah. Can I get a window seat? No wait. What do they call the seat where I get to have my body wrapped around yours because that's the one I want,” Blackwell chimes in with a playful grin on his face.

“It’s called me fucking you, but you haven’t earned that reward yet, psycho boy. Now sit still, be quiet and let me talk.” I toss him a wink and a seductive kiss that has him gripping his cock and groaning. Men are so easy to manipulate.

“Wait a minute, Bellonna. You said two round-trip tickets, don’t you mean three?” Varys questions, as if I’ve made a mistake.

“No, I mean two. You’re not going.” My voice is cold and stern, my face emotionless. I know he’s mad; I can feel his anger coursing through the room as the tension builds.

Varys doesn’t speak. Instead, he paces across the room in front of me, his fists clenching at his sides, his jaw tight, barely containing the fury he so greatly wants to unleash. His dark brown eyes, usually so calm and peaceful, are now full of anger as he finally stops and turns to face me.

“You’re keeping me out of the plan?” he asks, his voice low but laced with venom. “You’re planning to go after Vienna with them, and leave me here.”

He glares at me with such intensity, but I don’t flinch or waver in my position. I cross my arms over my chest, flashing him an almost dismissive expression. “You’re damn right I am. You’re a liability to this rescue mission, whether you’re ready to admit it or not.”

“A liability?” Varys asks. “That’s my sister they’ve got! My family. Do you even get what that means? You can’t just leave me here while you rescue her!”

“I can, and I will,” I reply sharply, my voice cutting through the air like a crack of a whip. “I’m not letting your presence jeopardize the mission.”

“You’re not leaving me here!” Varys growls, his voice reverberating through the room. He takes a step closer, his chest heaving with the force of his anger. “You don’t get to make that call for me.”

I let out a loud laugh as I hold my ground, my lips curling into a thin, humorless smile. “Oh, I don’t? Funny, because last time I checked, I’m the one leading this mission. I’m the one with all the power.”

The argument swirls between us, fiery and intense, as I abruptly turn to Blackwell and Warrick. They claim to want to be mated to the unicorn? Then it’s time they step up and agree with me. He needs to stay back. It’s for the best.

“Well?” I ask, my voice dripping with challenge. “What about you two fangbangers? Are you going to back me up on this, or are you just going to sit there and let Varys have his little tantrum?” I give them a moment and when no one speaks, I let out a huff. “I see no one has my back, both of you just want to kiss Varys’ ass, hoping that the unicorn will favor you. Well, the both of you can fuck off. I don’t need any of you to take the Obsidian Circle down. I can do it?—”

“Bellonna, no one’s kissing my ass. I’m not staying here, and you’re not doing this on your own. You didn’t give anyone a chance to even respond. Blackwell? Warrick?” Varys asks.

Blackwell leans casually against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest, raises an eyebrow and gives an exaggerated shrug. “Oh, I’m just here for the show,” he says with a smirk. “But if you want my vote, I agree with Bellonna. It’s a trap. They want Varys to come so that they can get him and still keep Vienna for the sex dungeon. Sorry man, but letting you go is a recipe for disaster.”

“Warrick, surely you know me going is for the best. You need me. The three of you won’t be able to rescue her,” Varys pleads.

Warrick sighs heavily and pinches the bridge of his nose. “Bellonna and Blackwell have a point,” he says, his voice firm. “Even if they didn’t, I would suggest for you not to go. It’s dangerous, plus you have no fighting experience. She’s your sister and your emotions would take over in the moment. And most importantly, as Blackwell pointed out and what I’m sure Bellonna was alluding to, is this is a trap to lure you out. They don’t intend to actually release your sister…you’re a liability. They want both of you. My vote is for you to stay as well.”

“Fuck all three of you,” Varys snaps, morphing from the sweet unicorn to a fiery man that I’d love to see in action in bed. “I’m coming, Bellonna. Whether you like it or not.”

Our eyes lock, the air between them crackling with tension. My lips press into a thin line and I stare him down, clearly calculating my next move.

“Varys, you’re going to stay here. I don’t care if I have to get a babysitter for you to ensure that you do just as I say. The three of us will go to Calverton and take the Obsidian Circle down, ending them once and for all, rescue your sister and bring her back to you.”

“Bellonna—”

“Enough, Varys. The discussion is over. You’ll stay willingly or by force. The choice is yours. I don’t give a flying fuck either way.”
