Epilogue

SEVERAL MONTHS IN TIME

Selah

I loved him the moment he’d told me to get my lick back several months ago.

Probably shouldn’t have, but it’d happened then.

Even though I was battling some pretty tough shit and not paying attention, I should have known the moment I let this man between my legs things would change.

Everything about Indiri was different and I was glad I didn’t allow the hurt I went through to taint my chances at real love.

“Yo, his little ass is bad as fuck. He keeps trying to square up with the dog. If he bites his little ass, I ain’t getting in it.” Rennix’s voice interrupted my thoughts. I looked up and he was holding RJ out for Caya.

“You’re the reason he does that shit. Let him get bit once. He’ll leave him alone.”

“Hell nah. Your dog bites my son and you’ll be one less dog and I know I’ma be on the couch.”

“As long as you know. Leave my dog alone and tell your son to leave him alone too,” Caya sassed, like RJ wasn’t her son too.

Rennix sucked his teeth then leaned over and kissed Caya before going back outside with the men. They had been out there playing with the water guns and children since the party had started. Reminisce and G had this grand idea to tire the kids out before the sun went down.

“You know that’s your son too, right?” Reminisce asked, cradling the cake I had just slaved to make perfect for the princess of the family.

Caya laughed, cradling her son. “Yeah, but he gets all of this from you and your brothers. Bunch of bigheaded niggas.”

“I second that motion.” Beyah held her hand up.

“Oh, for real? Lemme go tell G you in here talking shit.” Reminisce carried the cake out of the back door.

I laughed and so did Harlem and Beyah. We were in Chicago this weekend for his niece Romance’s birthday.

By her being the only girl in their family, it was somewhat a big thing for them.

I loved how they loved one another. They were this growing family that didn’t have to talk every day, but they were close knit.

I found it absolutely hilarious how right after I had Junior and Indiri randomly proposed in the damn delivery room, I was added to their group chat.

Of course, I had been added by Jade who I’d learned was not only the creator of the chat, but also the only person who messaged in it most of the time.

“So, Selah. Is my nephew moving out of the way for another or you wait—” Jade asked but I stopped her before she could finish her sentence.

“Nope. No, ma’am. I love your brother and nephew but I do not need another baby and neither does he. We’re not grown enough.”

Beyah’s laughter came out in the form of a scream before tears streamed down her face.

“Excuse me, what?” Harlem asked, also caught off guard by my statement.

“My baby has snacks twenty-four seven and his daddy is teaching him how to fight before he can even fully keep his balance. Long story short, I’m raising a Bebe kid and I know it.”

That statement had them laughing even harder and I understood why. Even though I was dead ass serious, it was funny.

“Girl, bye. I’m out here bargaining with Romance for curse words all because of her damn daddy. If you’re raising a Bebe kid, I’m raising part of the crew,” Karim responded.

I was about to respond when there was a tap on my shoulder.

I glanced up and a lazy grin filled my features at the sight of my two favorite guys.

Indiri was holding Junior who I assumed had just woken up.

I’d just laid him down about an hour and a half ago, but my baby boy was nosy.

He always felt like he was missing stuff, something he didn’t get from me nor his father.

He threw his head in the direction of the living room and I was on my feet in seconds.

“Gimme my nephew while y’all duck off. He’s the cutest, chunkiest little thing.” Jade swooped in and took Junior from his father.

I laughed, then followed Indiri to the front.

“What’s wrong, baby?” I asked, my eyes studying his face.

“Shit. I missed you.” He pulled me into him and I melted.

“I miss you too but I see you’ve been enjoying yourself with your brothers, so I gave you your space after I finished the cake.” I slid my arms around his waist.

“I did. It feels good to relax.”

“And I love that for you. But you kno—”

“You love me like I love you, Muffs?” he asked out of nowhere.

I shook my head. “More than you’ll ever know.”

“Good.” He leaned down and kissed my forehead, holding me tighter.

Laughter erupted in the kitchen again, but something about being in his arms made everything else obsolete at this moment. In his arms, I found solace and peace like no other. This was how it was supposed to be.
