14. Chapter Fourteen
Chapter Fourteen
Tom is lounging on the sofa when I finally make it home, and as if reading my mind, he's got the dining room table set and he's unscrewing a bottle of my favorite wine.
I toss my sandals on the side of the entryway and drop my bag on the console table with a heavy sign. “Hey. I thought this day would never end.”
“Hey, babe. I have dinner ready and waiting. How did the test go?”
I walk over to him, giving him a quick kiss on the lips.
“I failed. Miserably. My nerves got the best of me and I forgot to pull down the handbrake before moving forward. I swear I’ve never felt more stupid in my entire life, Tom. It was over before I even realized it.”
At this point, I’m so exhausted that all I want to do is sit down and devour everything within my reach. After a quick change of clothes, I flop opposite the TV while he pours wine into my glass.
“It was just a bad day, that’s all, sweetheart. You’ll get it next time.”
“Maybe. We’ll see.”
“So, has your boss returned?”
I’ve been so amped up with the driving exam, that I had almost forgotten about how I had propositioned Nikos during our chat the previous night.
“Yes, he did. He drove me to the DMV himself. Maria never answered my calls to get in earlier.” A long yawn escapes my lips and I can hardly keep my eyes open as I dig into the perfectly seasoned chicken breast and mashed potatoes.
He swallows his bite and looks at me, waiting for me to tell him more. “So, did he agree?”
I yawn again, rubbing my eyes hard. “Not in so many words, but I think he’ll do it. He’s just as new to the idea as we are. Should I tell him on Sunday? 7 pm? We can go to that new tavern that just opened on the harbor.”
“Fine by me. Tell him condoms are on him.”
I can’t help but laugh. “Babe, we’re just going to go out for dinner, see how things go. I’m not even sure he’s going to go through with it. This isn’t how things work around here.”
He smiles, draining his wine. “It’s not? I thought couples here invited their hot bosses to screw their wives all the time.”
I nudge him hard, and he grins. “Tom, please. This is no laughing matter. Word gets around here sooner than you can say cheese.”
“And that’s exactly why we have to take things slow.”
“Exactly,” I agree, after swallowing another bite and I can’t believe how we’re casually talking about having a threesome over dinner like it’s an everyday occurrence. That thought alone, almost takes the disappointment of failing my driving test away.
Almost.
