16. Chapter Sixteen

Chapter Sixteen

On Saturday I’m working the night shift again, and time flies in preparation for the wedding reception. By nightfall, everything is ready and waiting, but knowing what I’m in for all too well, I’m already itching for this night to be over.

Nikos is nowhere to be found and I’m not even sure he’s going to be here at all tonight. He usually leaves me in charge of things and only makes an appearance if he has something to tend to. I’m hoping tonight will be one of those times. Hours fly by and by the time the first guests start arriving, I already feel the weight of the night upon me as I greet every little group and guide them to their designated tables. Now I only have to wait for the bride and groom to arrive and for the photoshoot to take place before we open the buffet and start serving the guests.

It’s well after midnight when the plates of food are finally cleared and the staff and I busy ourselves with passing out the cake that Stavros masterfully cuts so that it’ll be enough for all attendees. Still, no sign of Nikos. I sigh heavily, stretching my back and feet which are killing me.

With everyone served a few minutes later, I take a seat at the end of the open buffet and stare at the bride and groom, a beautiful couple in their early twenties. A single tear runs down my cheek as memories come flooding back and I wipe it as discreetly as I can when I hear a familiar voice.

“They’re looking so in love, aren't they?”

I straighten my dress and look up to meet Nikos’s mesmerizing eyes. “They do. They remind me of Tom and me when we were young. I never got to wear a wedding gown.”

He hovers on my side, and I’ve never seen him look so handsome. Dressed in all black with his hair styled perfectly, he looks breathtaking.

“How so?”

I clear my throat, remembering all the troubles we faced before we got married.

“Let’s just say things never went how I planned.”

He follows my gaze across the open floor where the newly married couple is locked in a loving embrace, dancing their first dance as husband and wife.

“Do they, ever, Lisa?”

“I didn’t think you’d show tonight,” I whisper, looking up to meet his eyes.

“Dance with me.”

“But—”

He reaches for my hand, pulling me up, and walking with me to the dance floor. He moves closer, nuzzling behind my ear, his masculine scent filling my nose, and a shiver goes through me that’s got nothing to do with the cool breeze coming in from the sea.

“It’s just a dance, Lisa. Come on, pretty girl.”

Things happen so fast, that I barely have time to register his arms on either side of my waist, his body close to mine as Foreigner’s Until The End Of Time echoes around us and his intoxicating cologne makes me wish he’d never let me go. He smells like bourbon vanilla, and musk, and I’m lost in his grip, his guiding hands that linger on my sides, holding me close yet, not close enough. The wind has picked up sweeping my dress around his legs, entangling us in a cloud of black chiffon and when he smiles, I feel my knees ready to give.

“If we weren’t in public, I’d kiss you right now, Lisa. You look ravishing tonight. I can’t remember the last time I felt this way for a woman.”

I feel myself blushing when he pulls me closer, almost flush with his chest. When he runs his hand from the top of my bare shoulder down my elbow, slowly, barely touching me, I have to actively remind myself to breathe.

“I want you to dream about me inside you tonight. Think about how hard I am for you right now. Go home and think about all the things you told me you want me to do to you when we were chatting.”

And then the music stops and it’s over, and he looks at me with a ravenous look in his eyes. I open my mouth to speak, but he beats me to it and the moment is gone.

“Your husband is here. Be ready for me tomorrow because I am going to make love to you long and deep, angel. You’re going to wish it never ends.”

He pulls away from me and I stand frozen for a long moment as my eyes search for Tom. I find him across the room, standing by the illuminated palm trees swaying in the breeze, patiently waiting to get me safely home while Nikos’s last words play on repeat in my mind.

Be ready for me tomorrow because I’m going to make love to you long and deep and you’re going to wish it never ends.

Fuck.
