27. Chapter 27 #2
He met her gaze. The surreal liquid metal moved in his bronze eyes. She shivered.
“Don’t worry, Izzy. I have that side under control after releasing energy flying. Let me bring you pleasure without my dragon’s interference.” He pressed his lips against hers. When he drew back, her mouth feathered over his. Her legs clamped around his torso.
“Daxton…” Izzy swallowed, body twitching with need in his arms.
His firm stare communicated his need for more. Her heart rate quickened, and she licked her lips. He leaned forward, and he kissed her with ease and softness. Her palm brushed over his scruff. Incited to a fever pitch, she pulled him closer.
He slipped his hand beneath her underwear.
The first contact against her swollen nerves sent spasms through her.
She jumped, bark scoring her spine. It did nothing to diminish the inner shocks.
Daxton tugged away from the kiss to watch her while he rubbed her clit.
The delicious fire seared a smile onto her face as she hissed with pleasure.
Nerve endings sizzled under his touch. The pleasure bordered on pain. Her body stretched tautly. She closed her eyes.
“Don’t fight it, Izzy.”
What does that mean? He took her lips in a slow, caressing kiss. The drawing of their mouths felt as intimate as if she were lying naked next to him. It undid something inside her until her coiled body loosened. The building pressure eased into a calm crescendo. Oh…that’s…amazing.
“That’s it…relax,” he murmured.
Daxton stood like a steel wall against her lax form. She gave in to the passion, her brain fading out, and nuzzled into his neck. He moved his finger in a languid motion that hit a hypersensitive spot. Over and over, she moaned as the foreign clenching of lower muscles pulsed through her.
Pressure built until, with one synchronized tightening of her pelvis, the vortex of ecstasy exploded. Wave after wave of bliss rocked her. She couldn’t inhale. Her toes curled. The climax rolled over her gradually, like a gentle swell instead of an explosion, as it had been when they’d linked.
She clung to Daxton, vibrating with aftershocks.
He shook, dragging his hand from her. His labored breaths tickled her skin as he buried his head into her neck. Orgasms could be like that? Slow—long—torturous and delicious.
“That interruption was unexpected,” Daxton said, leaning away with a wide and warming smile.
She gazed down, fiddling with her bra and shirt. Wobbling, she buttoned her pants. Daxton grabbed her hips to help her stand.
“Thanks,” she murmured.
Daxton framed her face with his hands and raised her head until she met his gaze. The joy and possessiveness melted her. She’d given herself over to him with no reservations again, but she felt no regret. But something whispered that she shouldn’t have allowed herself to become so vulnerable.
His eyes searched hers. “Don’t go escaping into your brain, Izzy.”
She frowned.
He chuckled. “I want to eat you up sometimes.”
Sinful impressions floated into her mind from the link. Her, flat on her back, legs open, and his mouth…
Her body quivered. “Daxton.”
His loud laughter hypnotized her. She joined him, endorphins firing in her brain once more. I miss laughing like that.
He sobered, gaze flowing like molten bronze as the dragon stared at her.
“Did you enjoy your flight?” he asked, tucking a stray hair behind her ear.
Her eyes stung from the embarrassing amount of happiness bubbling within her. “It was…everything I could have asked for. Thank you, Daxton.”
The pad of his thumb wiped a tear from her eye. “Anytime. My dragon is yours for the taking.”
Elated heat rushed outward from her core.
Daxton clutched her hand and gave it a tug. “Want to fly again?” His determination to give her an enjoyable time chipped at her heart.
She wanted to, but guilt welled up. “But you didn’t…you did not…finish.”
He smiled and pecked her lips. Even that brief contact sent her to the sky.
“I’m turned on as hell, but this was about you,” he said.
She swallowed her nerves and offered him a tentative smile. What would it be like to let him take her? Her body tightened at the idea. But she wasn’t ready, and she appreciated he took care of her needs.
He turned around, showing the shredded shirt covering his back.
She gasped. “Daxton, I didn’t…?”
He followed her stare.
“No, it’s from my shifting. Usually, we will our clothes away instinctively, but that hit me by surprise, so I willed them away a little late. Hasty shifting can lead to material casualties.”
She swallowed a lump. “I want to apologize for losing control. I didn’t mean to blast you with power—only give you a taste.”
“It’s unnecessary.” He caressed her cheek. “We’re both new to this. You didn’t know what would happen. I’m glad it did.” His hand shook as he took it away from her.
“What do you mean?”
He swallowed. “I’ve been scared to shift. That’s the first time I have in a year.”
“A year?” She’d read of dragons becoming uncontrollable or ill if they hadn’t shifted that long. “What happened?”
“Keiran had gathered all the chiefs to our capital for a yearly briefing. It was my first time attending. Being in that room…” He winced.
“Surrounded by all the dominant dragons that had disciplined me at one point in my life. I was itching to get out of my skin. I went to the drive-in theater at the border of the Illusion, and I had a singular thought. Scare the moviegoers. Next thing I knew, I was a dragon, unable to shift back.”
She gasped.
“It happened to my biological father twenty years after I was born. He’d become Lost and killed six humans before another clanmate stopped him. Luckily before I could do any damage, Keiran found me.” Daxton breathed out a ragged breath. “He fought with me until I could get myself under control.”
A phantom pain pierced through her. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be.” He grinned. “Just now, when I shifted, I was afraid at first, but I breathed through it and this link…your presence takes the edge off.”
A flood of warmth expanded her chest. But unease trickled in. “You don’t want to break the link, do you?”
He rubbed the back of his neck. “No. I want to convince you to keep it. Call me selfish, but I’ve never felt this…
content with my dragon side. And I’m enjoying our time together, getting to learn your little nuances of expression.
I want to find out what the link means, but it’s not something I fear.
But if we find a way to break it and you want to, that’s your choice.
I’m just glad for this opportunity to strengthen my control. ”
She nodded, not trusting her voice past the lump in her throat. Her goal of severing the link and returning to Heaven hadn’t changed, but maybe she could spend time with him and help him first.
He took a step back. “Let’s not worry about the future. I told you I’d take you on another flight. Stay right here, and I’ll shift.”
He turned and walked away.
“Do you have time? You’ve spent the entire afternoon with me.” The drop in her hoarse tone betrayed the abandonment issues that still clung to her.
He smiled. “I’m making up for lost time. Silas can afford to watch over Pentros for me, and Jamal is our best tracker. You’re my priority.”
Her heart turned supernova. Sparks sizzled through her with each heartbeat.
Once he stood a suitable distance away, he transformed with a flash of light into the dragon.
With a smile, she approached him. He stared at her and waited for her to climb aboard. As they flew into the clouds, Izzy couldn’t stop smiling.
