Chapter 20
I’m watching you…
Dallas
Idisconnected the call with Delaney. Jacob chuckled the whole damn time like a teenage boy.
“What was the point of the meetup today if you didn’t tell her it was you?” He questioned after gaining his composure. I gave him a pointed look.
Jacob stood up and took his position at the door. I don’t know what it is about this kid, but he is the only one I allow to slack off or make comments. Never in front of the other staff or members of course.
Seeing Delaney today was more for clarity than anything.
I wanted to see how she responded to me without the mask on.
Anyone can get excited and want to be fucked by a masked man, in the right setting, but how she responded to me was important.
I didn’t know what it was about this woman but she had my mind fogged and the way my cock twitched everytime she was near me was magnetic.
There was only one other person I’ve ever had these feelings for, and she’s been gone a long time.
Before I had time to be pulled into my past there was a light knock on my door.
“Enter,” I said sternly.
The door opened and a sweet voice boomed through my office.
“Dallas Kingston, why in the hell was your card used to pay a member’s fee and entry fee for a…Delaney Bennett?” she said, with her hand on her hip.
Miss Lynn is my bookkeeper. Nothing gets by her, any bills are paid by her and all the funds collected for the club are overseen by her, I have seen her catch the smallest of issues and resolve them quickly.
She is usually quiet and to herself, observant of everything around her. I only ever hear from her when there is an issue – apparently also when she disagrees with a payment I’ve made.
I suppressed a grin, turning to see her face flushed red and her hair slightly out of place.
“By the use of my full professional name, I’m going to assume you have an issue with that?” I said in a sing-song voice, not at all matching the heated tone she used.
“Yes, I do have a problem with it. As your accountant you must run these things by me. If Miss Rice hadn’t been down to bring me lunch, I would have wasted hours of my day trying to track down a $15,000 debit mistake.”
I put my head down, playfully taunting her anger. “I’m sorry miss Lynn. Do you think you could forgive me?”
“You’re forgiven.” She plopped down in the chair in front of my desk, continuing her inquiry. “Now, who is this Delaney person, and why are you paying her fees?” She gave me a pointed look.
“Well, see this is where I stop you Miss Lynn. I will worry about who. You just worry about how much. Deal?” I asked, teasing her curiosity.
“Hmmm.” She responded, leaning back in her chair with her finger on her chin exaggeratedly.
“No, no deal. Either you tell me or I’ll just find out for myself.
” She giggled. Last time I didn’t tell her something, she went into detective mode and found out way more information than I wanted her to.
Luckily there isn’t much I hide from the handful of staff members I consider my friends, Miss Lynn being one of them.
“I feel like that is a loaded statement, or you’ve already gotten the answer because you are too damn good and you are testing me. Either way, get out of my office.” I pointed toward the door.
She got up and walked toward the door laughing, because she knew I was onto her and she didn’t pry because she respected me too much to push.
“I’m watching you, Mr. Kingston.” She said as she shut the door behind her. She is quiet, but she is smart and not one to underestimate.
“You’re not the only one.” I said under my breath.
Jacob, who still stood at the door, cleared his throat. “What are we doing about that?”
Since the initial incident I’ve had my men following Teddy and that prostitute. So far we’ve found out she wasn’t a prostitute, but rather Teddy’s eighteen year old niece. She was born to his only sister who passed away from terminal illness years ago.
I remember his sister from high school. She was a sweet girl.
She was a senior in my freshmen year. She married a very wealthy man shortly after college.
I lost contact after that, until I saw Teddy before I moved to L.A.
He told me she was sick, and that her daughter would likely come to live with him.
He talked about setting things up for her and righting some wrongs.
I didn’t fully understand what he meant but back then I didn’t really understand much.
I was young and dumb, falling into the wrong crowd.
“So far he hasn’t done anything to be worried about. We will wait it out. No need to retaliate right now.” I said sternly.
My phone pinged loudly from where it was set on my desk. My eyes fixed on my phone to see a text from Neil, the head of the team I have tracking Teddy for the time being:
Teddy and his niece had lunch with some lady today. I can’t find much info on her besides that she works for a publishing house. Lindsey is a client of the publishing house. Does she look familiar to you?
I opened the second message that had an image and to my surprise, I saw Delaney’s face on my screen.
Damn it! Is this a coincidence or is this a tactic Teddy is using to fuck with me?
My mind was reeling frantically trying to find a way he could possibly know a connection between Delaney and I.
There is nothing more important to me than keeping her safe.
I’ve got my work cut out for me. Convincing Delaney to come stay with me won’t be easy.
