Chapter Forty
In which the most beautiful words are these: As you wish.
Luna…
We never make it back to my dream house that night.
Kai bathes me in the rusty porcelain tub in the old cottage, drying me with exquisite tenderness and then hand-feeding me from a cooler packed with all the tastiest food from the wedding feast.
“I have never seen a man as prepared as you,” I sigh, putting my head on his shoulder. It feels too heavy to hold up. The wedding, Kai showing me my dream home, the chase through the forest, that sex…
Oh, my good lord, that sex.
I feel like I’ve lived an entire week in one day.
“Are ya sure ya canna eat another thing?” Kai asks, so tender like he didn’t just throw me down on the floor and rail me into oblivion. I will never forget the sight of him in that wolf mask, his huge, bare chest heaving and muscles glistening with sweat.
“No,” I say drowsily, “this is perfect.” Looking at the river rock fireplace and the mismatched furniture, I smile. “You know, I could be happy living here with you. If this was all we had, I would still be at peace as long as you were here with me.”
He kisses the top of my head. “I still prefer the townhouse and our beach dream cottage, but I’ll never say no to chasing ya back here.”
Shifting, I groan a little. Everything is sore. My nipples, my center, my legs… Kai hands me a glass of water and two Tylenol.
“See what I mean?” I say. “Always prepared.”
I feel his chest shake as he chuckles lightly. “I can carry ya back to the house, love. You’ll be more comfortable there.”
“Can we just sleep here tonight?” I yawn. “We can curl up really close on this lumpy couch.”
He rolls me over carefully until I’m lying on top of him like an extra comfortable mattress.
“As you wish,” he murmurs, kissing me again.
