Chapter 38
SHELBY
CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT
“Ihave one more house to show you,” our realtor tells us.
Luke smiles. “Lead the way. We’ll follow you.”
We’re near the college in Georgia. School starts in a month, and we have nowhere to live.
After the attack, Nick and I took a couple of weeks to heal enough to plan this trip.
The guys spent hours answering questions at the police station. Nick showed them the information he gathered on Roger and Mr. Ryan.
For a while, I thought they would charge me with robbery.
At first, they didn’t believe the hypnotism part, but Peter hired an attorney, and he brought in Mr. Scott. After a quick demonstration, they believed me.
“How’s your leg?” Luke glances at me as he opens the door for me.
The muscles in my leg ache when I walk, but I won’t let it slow me down.
I smile up at him and scoot into the back seat. “I’m good.”
Nick glances at his phone for the hundredth time.
“Have you heard from Cin?” I ask.
Cin hadn’t left Nick’s side while he was in the hospital, and they’d patched up the tension that had been building between them. She had returned home to work at her dad’s garage, and she and Nick are planning to do the long-distance thing, traveling back and forth to see each other.
“Yeah.” He slips his phone into his back pocket. “She wants us to send pics when we finally decide on a house.”
The realtor pulls up in front of a house with dark blue siding with white accents. A small porch extends to the side of the front door.
The realtor holds the door of the SUV for me. “I need to warn you, this is more than you requested.”
We knew we would only stay here for four years, so we didn’t want to spend much money. We thought about renting, but what we need makes that option too damn expensive.
“It has an open kitchen and dining area, as you requested.” She opens the door and lets us enter first.
I step into a nice-sized living room. The dining area is to the right of a large kitchen. French doors lead to a deck that overlooks the town.
I turn toward the realtor. “How many bedrooms?”
“Five, and a full basement downstairs, which has the potential for another. The basement runs the length of the house,” she says.
“I’m going upstairs,” I say.
On the left of the entrance, a set of stairs leads up. Cam and Mav follow me.
“It’s set up like our house in Westview.” Cam peeks into a room.
Dom comes up from the basement. “The basement bedroom will be perfect for Nick.”
“What is he going to do for a bathroom?” Mav wraps his arm around me.
“There’s a half bath down there that we can tie into and build one for him,” Dom says.
“What do you think, angel?” Luke stands in front of me.
I shrug. “I love it.”
“Good.” Luke smiles. “So do I.”
“I claim this room.” Mav points to the one beside the master.
“So, we agree we want this house?” Luke glances around.
“Let’s buy it.” I smile.
