Chapter 32
Chapter Thirty-Two
Jake had made love to her all night. And even though she’d never thought it possible to get any better, after confessing their feelings for one another, it was. Impossibly, it was.
“Move that sweet ass of yours, Princess.”
Jake stood in the doorway of her bedroom with his arms crossed, waiting for her to finish putting on her sandals.
They’d driven to her apartment so she could get a change of clothes. His sister and her boyfriend were apparently known for impromptu barbecues, and today had turned into one.
“Unless,” Jake added, “you want me to smack it.” The gleam in his eyes turned predatory. “After I tie you to the bed.”
Her eyes snapped to his as heat detonated within her. They’d never done anything like that before, but with Jake, she kind of wanted to give it a try.
When she didn’t move, he pushed away from the doorframe and stalked toward her. “Spanking it is.”
She squealed and scampered around the bed—one shoe on, one shoe off—to the opposite side. “Don’t you dare!”
As tempting as it was to let him make good on that threat, she’d never met Jake’s sister, and she really wanted Jessa to like her. He and Jessa were incredibly close, so it was important to Laurel to make a good impression. And having that your-brother-just-did-unspeakably-dirty-things-to-me look probably wasn’t the best way to go about it.
“It’s Jess,” he said, following her around the bed. “She’s used to me being late.”
Laurel realized her error as soon as she bumped into the wall. She’d “escaped” herself into a trap. He had her cornered between the bed and the wall.
“No!” She thrust her hand up in front of him like a human stop sign. “I am not going to be late the first time I meet your sister.”
Jake had told her only a few people would be at the barbecue… Jessa and Chase, Emery and Gage—whom she knew—and Emery’s radio co-host, Linc. Even though it was a small group, it was still a bit intimidating meeting people who were so important to Jake. She didn’t need any strikes against her going in.
He took another step.
“Jake, I mean it,” she warned. “I want them to like me.”
Without warning, he leapt forward and had her caged between his hands and the wall before she’d even blinked. After a slow perusal of her body, which left her in a pathetic pool of need, he collapsed onto his forearms, bringing his face mere inches away from hers.
He kissed the corner of her mouth, and she melted.
“They’re gonna love you.”
He kissed the other corner, prompting her to splay her hands on the wall behind her to steady herself in order to remain upright. Even the slightest touch from this man held the power to render her defenseless. Especially when he kissed her neck… like he was doing right now.
“How do you know?” She had to stay focused, had to remember they couldn’t be late.
He grazed his teeth down the column of her neck.
Well, shouldn’t be late.
She couldn’t stop a little moan when he nipped the crook of her shoulder before soothing it with his tongue.
Why did she care if they were late again?
Is this how it’ll always be? Me unable to resist him?
Stupid question. When it came to Jake, the answer was always yes.
“I know they’ll love you,” he said simply, “because I love you.”
He slanted his mouth over hers and licked at the seam of her lips. She opened immediately. The sweet slide of his tongue made her sigh, but the words he’d spoken sent her heart into a tailspin. She could still hardly believe it. Jake was in love with her, and she was in love with him. Never in a million years would she have imagined the two of them together. Now, she couldn’t fathom her life without him.
“You know what else I know, good girl?”
She grinned and wrapped her arms around his neck. “What’s that, bad boy?”
“Someday…” The teasing glint that had been glittering in his eyes moments ago was gone, replaced by complete sincerity. “I’m gonna ask you to marry me.”
She gasped softly as her heart stumbled over itself. “Jake…”
“And someday, Princess, you’re gonna say yes.”
