Chapter 2
Jack
After my conversation with Avery, I spent the rest of the afternoon thinking about the condition of my marriage. Even when Jules is at home, she barely acknowledges that I am alive.
The hour and a half that I spent having lunch and talking with Avery had been like the sun breaking through a cloudy sky. It felt so good to be listened to. To be appreciated.
The more I think about it, the more I wonder why the hell I am staying in this fucked up marriage. I treat total strangers better than the way that Jules treats me these days.
I started drinking about 9pm. I was fairly wasted by the time Jules got home at 1am Saturday morning never having come home after work Friday evening.
“Do I mean so fucking little to you that you just don’t give a shit about telling me where you are or how long you’ll be gone?” I hollered when she came into the living room where I was slumped with my mostly finished bottle of JD.
“Oh grow up Jack. We are adults and we can come and go as we please,” Jules answers in an annoyed tone. “We have different lives Jack, you are free to do whatever you want,” she added.
“Then why the hell should we stay married? You obviously don’t give a shit about me anymore,” I yelled. “Go to bed, you’re drunk. I don’t need to be cussed at,” Jules hissed.
I am livid when I crawl into bed in the guest bedroom where I have slept for most of the last five years. The booze takes over and I drift off to a miserably fitful sleep.
When I awoke Saturday morning at just past 10am, I was a bit thick headed with a throbbing hangover. I don’t usually drink as heavily as I did last night and today I am paying for it.
When I make my way to the kitchen, I find there is a bottle of pain pills next to the coffee maker. Jules left a post by the pills. “Take three, drink some water and make something to eat. You’ll feel better,” is what Jules told me.
On the kitchen table, I find a note when I sit down to take the pills and swallow some water.
Jack: I am taking a trip to Los Angels for a Medical Conference. I’m leaving now and should be home sometime Friday evening. Be sober…we need to talk…J
Why did she have to leave today for a conference that doesn’t start till Monday? At least this time she left me a fucking note. Not that it matters much with the deterioration of our relationship. I notice that the word love is nowhere on the note.
I make myself two frozen cheese, egg and sausage muffins for breakfast. As I stand in the shower with the hot water cascading down on my head and shoulders, I can feel the hangover lifting.
I am pretty much feeling like myself as I get dressed to do a workout in the gym on the first floor of the condo property. Avery texted and asked when I would be down. I told her ten minutes.
Avery looked stunning in her skin tight yoga pants and sports bra. We started off jogging side by side on the two treadmills in the gym. In my peripheral vision, I could see her tits jumping up and down as she jogged.
I had to close my eyes for several moments to keep from popping a boner. It has been way too long since I got laid. I feel like a hormonal teen as I fight becoming erect in my gym shorts.
Next, we did jumping Jacks and windmills. More jumping breasts. The way that Avery was smiling at me, I’m pretty sure she knew what she was doing to me.
While I spotted her to doing lifts, I could see an indecent camel toe in the crotch of her yoga pants and her tits were straining against her sports bra. I know that I had a bulge in my gym shorts when she spotted me doing the bench presses.
As we rode the elevator up to the 12th floor after our workout, Avery again invited me over for lunch. I begged off telling her that I had a late breakfast.
“How about dinner? It’s been a very long time since I went out to dinner,” Avery offered.
In my mind I cannot remember how long it has been since Jules and I went out.
“It’s a date,” I answered. “I’ll pick you up at eight o’clock,” I tell her just as the elevator door opens to let us out.
Avery kisses me on the cheek in front of my door.
