Epilogue
Meyer
One year later
“ I t’s not my turn,” I insisted as I sat cross-legged on Dex’s bed, cooling down after my morning shower. “I did it last year. What did I do with my nail clippers? My toenails are like claws.”
The Dancing Chiles Food Fiesta was next weekend. It was hard to believe I’d been back in Charming Butte for a year now. So much had happened since then and most of it with Dex.
“They’re in here.” Dex sounded muffled, and I understood when he emerged naked from the bathroom with a toothbrush in his mouth and white foam around his lips. He held out my nail clippers.
“Thanks, babe.” I hopped off the bed and took them, taking the opportunity to squeeze his gorgeous ass at the same time. He made this sweet wriggling motion and pressed back into my hand. Then he reached up and kissed my cheek.
“I’ve got a white kiss on my cheek, haven’t I?” I sighed, but I left it there. I didn’t want to rub away his kiss.
“You have,” he agreed as he returned to the bathroom.
I sat on the bed and started clipping my toenails. “What were we talking about?”
“You were complaining it’s not your turn.”
I heard water running and swishing noises.
“Oh right, so it’s not my turn to be dunked at the fiesta. I did it last year.”
“You’re the chief now,” he pointed out, appearing in the doorway. “Volunteer someone like Gary did to you.”
Since his retirement, Chief Brannigan had insisted everyone call him Gary. As long as he didn’t expect me to call him Dad, we were golden.
A smile spread across my face. “I can, can’t I?”
Who was going to be the victim…I mean, volunteer?
“You have a wicked grin, Chief Jones,” Dex observed. “Should I warn the crew?”
“Don’t you dare,” I said, wagging my finger at him.
If I didn’t say that, my cowboy would be on the phone to the firehouse the second I walked out the door. He smirked. I lunged at him and tugged him down on top of me, straddling my hips.
“I’ve got to start work,” he said, somewhat breathless.
“And I need to do my laundry. It was kinda busy over the weekend.”
There had been a spate of dumpster fires lately. We thought it was an out-of-towner causing problems, but discovered it was bored teenage kids, thanks to an anonymous tipoff. The fact the tipster sounded like little Wildie Bird…well, no one felt the need to mention that.
The mayor, the new sheriff, and I had promised to discuss how to entertain the kids before they burned down the town. I had some ideas, but I hadn’t had a chance to discuss them with Dex first. It was on my things-to-do list.
“You’ve got two in the closet,” Dex said, unaware of my thoughts. “I did the laundry yesterday.”
I kissed his cheek. “I’m keeping you.” The talk could wait.
“Duh.” Then he squinted down at me. “Like I’d let you go now. Yukie would go into a decline.”
I raised an eyebrow. “You don’t want me to go because my horse would go into a decline?”
“ Your horse?”
“My horse,” I agreed. Okay, she belonged to the ranch, but everyone knew Yukie was mine.
He chuckled and settled himself more comfortably on my hips. My dick couldn’t help reacting. I had a gorgeous ass sitting on me. Of course it reacted.
I sighed in happiness as Dex bent down to give me another toothpasty kiss. I tugged him down so my man was sprawled over me. He buried his face in the crook of my neck and snuggled into me.
“Moving in with you was the best idea I’ve ever had.”
“It was my idea.” He sounded somewhat muffled.
I grunted. Maybe it was.
It had started as a casual conversation just before Thanksgiving last year.
“Your toothbrush is here. And your razor,” Dex said as he climbed into bed after his shower. “Your clothes take up three-quarters of my closet. I wash your uniform.” He leaned over to kiss my mouth.
I returned the kiss almost absently, taken aback by Dex’s sudden statement. I guess my things had moved in gradually. I hadn’t really noticed, to be honest. I grabbed what I needed from the cottage, and somehow, I never took anything back. I looked around Dex’s bedroom. There was a whole lot more than my razor, toothbrush, and a few clothes. Now I felt guilty.
“Do you want me to move them out? I can take them back to the cottage before work.”
He shook his head. “I want you to move in. Properly. Quit paying rent on the cottage you’ve never spent more than five minutes in since you arrived on the ranch.”
It was a slight exaggeration, but not by much. In the month since I’d arrived in Charming, I ate here, slept here, fucked here. My life was where Dex was, and that was in his arms.
My mouth went dry. “You want that?”
Dex nodded. “I do.” He hesitated. “I love you and want to spend the rest of our lives together.”
“I want that more than you know.” And if I sounded a little hoarse and overwhelmed, he didn’t call me out on it. “I love you too.”
“Like I didn’t know that.” Dex gazed down at me, his eyes twinkling. “And I want a party.”
“You do?” I asked dubiously.
Neither of us were the partying type. We spent most of our free time curled up on the couch together or exploring the local area on the horses or hiking—just the two of us. Forget opposites attract. I had a man who fit me body and soul.
“You claimed me at the fiesta. Now I want to claim you to the town.”
“You want to host a party for the whole town? Do you think it’s necessary? I mean you claimed me pretty much all over Charming, babe. In the coffee shops, in the supermarket, behind the high school?—”
“Okay, okay,” he interrupted, his cheeks flushing. “You don’t need to remind me.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure you don’t want to be reminded?”
I grinned at his indrawn breath. So maybe I’d tried to make up for what happened in high school. We’d gotten very enthusiastic and had nearly been caught more than once. I cringed at the memory of my mom and Gary walking around the corner right after one of those encounters.
Dex chuckled. “You’re thinking about your mom, aren’t you?”
“If they’d caught us…” I whimpered.
I insisted we were a bit more discreet after that. We had a fine bed back at the ranch, my old one from Chicago—which Dex was happy to move into his bedroom once he understood it was new and I’d never shared it with another man.
“There, there.” He patted my arm. “I think your mom knows you’re a big boy now.”
“I’m a big boy,” I agreed with a wicked grin. Dex groaned as I rolled him over and pressed him down into the bed. I gazed down at him. “A big, big, boy.”
He rolled his eyes, and I chuckled.
“You’re so edible,” I told him. “I want to devour you.”
“That doesn’t sound good.”
“I’ll make it good.” I added a little growl to my voice so he knew exactly what I was talking about. Yep, there was that shiver. Dex loved it when I growled at him.
He arched up against me, and our cocks rubbed deliciously against each other, the friction eliciting groans from both of us.
“I’m waiting,” he said.
Never let it be said I kept my man waiting. I licked a stripe up his throat and sucked lightly on his Adam’s apple, feeling it bob under my tongue. Then I trailed kisses along his jaw to suck lightly on one of his earlobes.
I loved toying with Dex, exploring all the places that made him wriggle and writhe. He was the first man in my life who loved foreplay as much as I did.
Dex clutched onto my shoulders, his blunt nails digging in. I knew he was trying to hold back, to let me lead this ride. But it wouldn’t last. As I slid down his body, he begged me to suck his nipples.
I sucked one nub, hearing his sharp intake of breath, then made sucking kisses over to love on the other one.
“Meyer, please. Fuck me.”
I raised my head, seeing his glittering eyes focused on me. The time for teasing was over. He needed me now. I pushed open his legs, nestling between them as my gaze fixed on his sweet hole, fluttering as it waited for me.
It didn’t take long for another order.
“Quit staring at me and start fucking,” he growled.
I snorted. Dex was always the same. “Mister Impatient, much?”
I flicked open the cap of the lube, squeezing a little on my fingertips, then threw away the tube and circled my digits around his hole. I leaned over him and pressed in, crooking them to find his sweet spot. He cried out. Gotcha. I pumped in a few more times, but it didn’t take a lot to make my boy ready for me.
I wiped my fingers and leaned over Dex, his legs over my shoulders as I pressed in, one smooth movement until we were connected. I bent down to kiss him, hard and dirty, leaving him breathless and gasping, his cocking leaking.
“Love you, Dex.”
He tugged me closer. “I love you.”
It was good to say and hear it again.
I pulled his hips close to me and thrust in hard. Dex cried out and clutched onto my arms. I set up a slow, rolling rhythm until we were both gasping and grunting as we met.
“Jack me,” Dex pleaded.
I wrapped my hand around his hard shaft. It only took a few strokes, Dex was that close to the edge. He threw his head back as he yelled and climaxed, his seed spurting through my fingers. Even though my balls were screaming for release, I stroked him through his spasms until he opened his beautiful eyes, taking a moment to focus on me.
His wickedly lustful smile made my cock grow even harder if it were possible. “Your turn?”
I buried my head in the crook of his neck and my cock deep as I shuddered, pumping inside him. Then I sprawled over him, panting, messy, sweaty, and covered in his cum. I could stay like this, glued to him forever.
My new and official roommate didn’t agree. “I need to breathe, Jones,” he gasped. “Get off me.”
He shoved me hard. Grumbling, I rolled off onto my back and sprawled out, glad the bed was big enough for the two of us to stretch.
Dex stayed where he was and when I turned my head, he was grinning up at the ceiling.
“Happy?” I asked.
Dex turned to gaze at me and laced his fingers in mine. “I’ve gotten all I ever wanted. How lucky am I?” His eyes shone in the dim light.
I squeezed his hand, too choked up to speak. I knew exactly how he felt.
Just thinking about that wonderful day he asked to move in with him made me hard. I slid my hands down his back and cupped his ass cheeks, giving my hips a suggestive wiggle.
Dex scowled at me. “Behave. We haven’t got time.”
“Are you sure?” I slid one finger between his cheeks.
“I’m sure,” he said breathlessly, raising his head, but his eyes told a different story. My boy wanted to stay so badly. “I’ve got to go.”
He kind of bolted off the bed, and regretfully, I didn’t pull him back or we’d both be late. But I couldn’t resist a little teasing.
“Like that?” I gestured to his hot naked body. I kindly didn’t mention his erection pointing toward me like a homing beacon.
Dex looked down. “Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I might scare the cows.”
I leered at him. “You didn’t worry about scaring the cows the other night.”
I didn’t miss the way his cheeks pinked again as he headed into his closet. I could have fried eggs on his cheeks.
“I was sweet and innocent before I met you,” he grumbled.
“Sure you were, Chase. Let me remind you that the barn was all your idea.”
“I’m going to talk to Juniper. She doesn’t try to embarrass me.”
“Yeah, yeah.” I slipped out of bed and headed for the kitchen and more importantly, the coffee. Much as I adored Junie, there were a lot of things she didn’t do that Dex really liked. But now was not the time for more memories. We both had to get to work.
Dex kissed me, took the travel cup I handed him, and smiled a little as he eyed me. “See you later.”
I kissed him again, infusing a lot more heat into our kiss. Then I shooed him out the door before we forgot about our day and kissed our way back into bed.
An hour later, I wandered into the firehouse, as usual greeted by Curly, and also Moe, a small calico cat who’d walked into the firehouse one day and made himself at home. Curly and Moe were the best of friends. I was kinda worried what the third arrival would be. There had to be a Larry, didn’t there? I hoped he wouldn’t be a llama.
I greeted Garcia and Pérez who were checking the ambulance. “Morning.”
Garcia looked at me, then squinted. “Hey Chief, you’ve got something white on your cheek. It looks like a mouth.”
And that’s when I remembered the toothpaste kiss and Dex’s smile as he went out the door. My evil boyfriend had failed to remind me about the imprint on my cheek. Oh, Dex was in so much trouble now.
Thank you for joining us in the quirky town of Charming Butte.
Of course, the loving doesn’t stop with Meyer and Dex.
