Prologue #3
.
He would not learn everything because no one was privy to all my tricks and as I had proven some of father’s men were loyal to me and would die for me if necessary.
“Prime, this is not a good time to talk. Please, do not tell me there is another disaster you require me to aid you with,” I said once I had punched the answer button.
“There’s nothing I need from you for once, though it does seem all of our conversations have the same theme.
Either your father requires something dangerous from us or we are begging for help.
I suppose that in a way this call could be considered to fit within that particular subject, but it isn’t how I meant it to be.
“I know that Don Petrov has learned about your part in our rescue mission, and he will retaliate as usual. You shouldn’t take all the heat for this shit storm.
I also realize it was inevitable, but I would like to know who told him and offer to take a little revenge for your sake.
I will gladly call your father and take all the blame, too.
I will say we forced you to cooperate. We will take whatever shitload of punishment he wishes to hand out, after all this is our fault.
Mainly mine, if I tell the entire truth.
I should have had better control of my men.
If I had you wouldn’t have been needed. I’m sorry you had to become involved,” Prime explained.
“We both know I could have said no. I am not a child who places blame on others for their actions. I stand up and admit when I do something I should not have, but I will not think of this as a mistake. It is true your men are hotheaded and get into deep trouble before they consider the consequences. However, that does not mean they do not deserve to be saved from their mistakes. “I could not allow Rage to suffer more pain and possible death at the hands of our mutual enemy. He was actually cleaning up the mess we began. Father allowed Vikki to go into danger in place of a mafia agent who had more experience, and it was I that handed her over personally.“Aguilar must be dealt with. Even father will admit that is true. He is ruining our reputation, and we cannot ignore it any longer. Love caused Rage’s actions. Would you have him punished for that? I sincerely doubt it. So, do not try to punish yourself for caring deeply for those under your command,” I replied. “Rage is aptly named. It wasn’t just love, though he’s deeply tied to Vikki now.
It was his damn uncontrollable anger that sent him acting without thinking.
He will eventually learn to rage less and make better decisions under my command and with Vikki’s help,” Prime answered.
“I do not think you are the best of examples when it comes to temper,” I commented.
“Vikki was afraid he would not love her or even accept her since she was a “used” woman. Did you know that? Rage might be easy to anger, but when he loves it is deep and forever. He is also a forgiving man, especially where women are concerned, which might be his worst downfall. Vikki is an exception, but many women with her background are conniving bitches.” “Women from any background can be conniving bitches,” he laughed.
“Are you referring to me and the way we do not see things the same way most of the time?”“I wouldn’t go that far, yet you do get your way more often than not.
It’s a fucking shame I can’t be there to see you manipulate your father.
It would amuse me immensely to see his shocked face.
Don Petrov is going to have his hands full, and his mind twisted.
Are you sure you won’t let me take the heat?
I don’t wish you harmed,” Prime declared.
“Why do you want to take the blame so badly? I do not understand your attitude. You should be relieved that this is coming down on me rather than your club. Most men would sit back and have a drink to celebrate a victory that has no dire consequences.”I heard a deep sigh come over the line, then a moment of silence.
I suspected he was not going to answer and was just about to get angry when he finally spoke.
“Zoe, I could say that it’s because the Sinners and I were the instigators of the trouble, but it wouldn’t be the complete truth.
Frankly, it’s more and it’s confusing. The real truth is that you fucking matter to me.
I don’t really know why, and I definitely don’t like the feeling.
I’m dealing with it as best I can.”The phone clicked, signaling that he had hung up on me.
His words sent a tingle through my body and put prickles on my skin.
Like him, I didn’t understand why his words caused me to have a physical reaction.
It was something I had to think about and ultimately deal with as well.
Yet, it was something to hold onto as I faced my father and gave me more ammunition against my extreme fear.
