Journal Entry 16
Zaskja (could I ever truly be Aheeva?)
My Wolf,
It’s been a fortnight since you rose to power.
You’re just as formidable as I believed you’d be.
And no, I’m not writing this for your reading pleasure (though perhaps, one day, this journal will find its way into your hands); I write this because I’ve observed you grow into the leader the Ravines needed.
Into the Alpha you were meant to become.
It’s riveting to watch. Touching to hear your our clan members whisper their gratitude to Fenrir for having brought you to them.
I’m still convinced it’s the Norns’ doing, though you insist it’s your heart’s. That it led you to where you needed to go. Which is, apparently, everywhere I am. You’re such a romantic, my Wolf. You have even ME beat.
Which isn’t much of a feat anymore. Not since I learned the secret of my burns. That doused my youthful ardor.
Although you haven’t outright asked for my forgiveness again, I know you’re waiting for it, just as I know you wish I’d be more pliant with you, more expressive with my affection and my words. That I’d accept your kisses like I did the night you became the leader of Clan Ravine.
But I need time, for when I dive back into us, I want it to be with my whole heart and soul, not only with my body. I want to be able to love you like you love me—without limit and without end.
I feel the day drawing close.
I feel my body priming itself to receive all you long to give it.
Every morning, when you stop by the home I share with Mor, when you knock on my bedchamber door. (I still can’t believe I have a door. Is it terrible to admit that I like it? I love my mother to bits, but having true privacy is incredible, if only to write in peace.)
Anyway, where was I? Ah, yes—your morning visits. I look forward to every one of them. This morning, when you didn’t show up… Gods, I was so worried.
And disappointed.
It’s the latter emotion that tells me that I’m close to opening my heart back to you.
Days away.
Hours, maybe?
Will the last of my scabs fall when the sun rises tomorrow morning?
Meet me at dawn, my Wolf.
With all the love in my heart, past, present, and future,
Your River
