Chapter 23
Chapter Twenty-Three
Carter
My eyes are open, but I’ve awoken to a dream.
Eve’s honey colored hair is splayed out across my chest as her head rests on my shoulder. She sleeps soundly, breathing deeply, rhythmically. My arms are wrapped around her so tightly, and I’m pretty sure I’ll never let go.
The thought of separating from her is so torturous, I find myself hoping she sleeps for a long time.
Making love to Eve was everything I’d imagined it would be and more. The smell of her, the sounds of her moaning, the taste of her skin, her sweet nectar, those eyes, flashing and fluttering under my touch.
It was enough to bring even me, the strongest man, to his knees.
Now that I had Eve, I was never going to let her go. Figuratively, of course.
My first step in ensuring that was to talk to the university administration tomorrow morning. But, in the meantime, it’s time I take Eve out on a proper date.
I lay there planning everything meticulously as she continues to sleep on my shoulder. The weight of her body is delicious and just having her this close wakes my body up. By the time she finally stirs, I’ve planned out our entire day and my cock is throbbing with desire for her.
She lets out a soft moan as her eyes flutter open.
A lazy smile spreads across her face and she’s never been more beautiful. Her tousled hair, her sleepy eyes, her beautiful smile, her naked body pressed up against me, so warm and soft and lit up with the morning light shining through her window.
God, it’s enough to make me crazy. I reach up and touch her cheek, kissing her gently.
“Good morning, princess,” I say.
“Good morning,” she says, with a hint of a blush creeping into her cheeks.
“Did you sleep well?” I ask.
“Better than ever,” she admits. “I’ve uh, never slept with someone all night before.”
I kiss her again and peer into her pretty eyes.
“Thank you.”
“For what?” She asks.
“For trusting me. With your body. With your heart.”
She moans and kisses me tenderly.
“You’re welcome, but thank you, too. You’re so sweet to me, Carter.”
“And I intend to keep that up, so get used to it. How would you feel about going on a date with me today?”
“Today? Now?”
“Yes, now.”
“I’d love to,” she said, beaming. “I just need to get cleaned up.”
“Me, too. I’ll make coffee, while you get in the shower?”
“Sure,” she smiles, suddenly looking a little shy. “Where are we going?”
“You’ll see,” I tease, with a wink.
She laughs and kisses me again, before crawling out of bed and taking the sheet from the bed with her. She smiles as she wraps it around her naked body, leaving mine completely exposed.
“Hey!” I protest, laughing.
“Hey is right,” she winks. “God, you’re hot.”
“Look who’s talking,” I say, as she disappears into the bathroom.
I lay there for a second, counting my blessings. I’ve finally got a chance with Eve and I’m not about to screw this up. I reach for my jeans and pull them on, then head into the kitchen to get the coffee started, a stupid grin on my face the entire time.
Two hours later, we’re strolling hand in hand down the sidewalk in front of Pike’s Place Market, the smell of fresh fish and coffee in the air, and a bouquet of fresh lilies in Eve’s arms.
She’s breathtakingly beautiful in a yellow sundress and casual leather sandals. She’s put her hair up in a messy bun, showing off her long, slender neck.
It takes everything I have not to put my lips on her smooth skin.
I can’t stop looking at her, so much so that I keep tripping. I must look like a fool, I think, all love-struck and dumb, but I don’t care one bit.
I have Eve by my side.
Nothing in the world could bring me down off this high.
Now that we’ve crossed into being a couple, my head is spinning with ideas for our future. So much depends on if I get to keep my job or not, but either way, Eve is now squarely planted in my vision for the rest of my life.
My heart soars with happiness as we stroll through the shops. I watch as she picks up a tomato from the vegetable stand and smells it, her eyes closing with delight as she inhales. She’s so incredibly beautiful, I can’t believe how lucky I am.
“Smell this one,” she says, holding a bright red Early Girl under my nose.
“So fresh,” I say, smiling at her.
“You’re fresh,” she laughs, her adorable attempt at flirting.
“I’ll show you fresh when we get home,” I say, bending down and whispering in her ear. She smiles, a shy private smile, as she looks up at me, the delight in her eyes apparent.
It’s clear she’s as happy as I am.
Why should we ever deny each other this? Life is too fucking short.
Fuck the world.
