Fore-Ever Yours (Sweet Sports Kisses)
Golf 101
Hello, sweet readers!
Ready for ?
While I didn’t want to overly use golf terminology, I wanted to include some—it’s a sports romance, after all—but still make it easy to read for those who are not golf pros (like me!)
If you’re ever reading and go: “What in the name of Golf is that?” just come back here for a quick explanation. Although I hope it doesn’t overwhelm you nor distract from the romance!
Scoring Terms:
Par : The standard number of strokes expected to complete a hole or course, based on its length and difficulty.
Bogey : Scoring one stroke over par on a hole (e.g., a 6 on a par-5).
Birdie : Scoring one stroke under par on a hole (e.g., a 4 on a par-5).
Eagle : Scoring two strokes under par on a hole (e.g., a 3 on a par-5).
Albatross: Scoring three strokes under par on a hole (e.g., a 2 on a par-5), also known as a double eagle.
Hole-in-One : Hitting the ball into the hole with one stroke, typically on a par-3.
Equipment/Course:
Club: The tool used to hit the ball, including drivers, irons, wedges, and putters.
Tee: The small peg used to elevate the ball for the first shot on a hole; also refers to the teeing area.
Fairway: The well-maintained grassy area between the tee and green, ideal for shots.
Green : The smooth putting surface around the hole, designed for putting.
Bunker: A sand-filled hazard designed to challenge players, often near greens or fairways.
Rough : The longer, less-maintained grass surrounding fairways, making shots harder.
Shots/Play:
Drive : The first shot on a hole, typically with a driver, aimed for maximum distance.
Chip : A short, low shot to get the ball onto the green from nearby, often with a wedge.
Putt : A short, gentle shot on the green to roll the ball toward the hole.
Tournament:
Purse: The total prize money awarded to players in a golf tournament, distributed based on their final standings.
