Chapter 11
Mack
I was currently walking round in some sort of state of euphoria. I had absolutely no idea that the feel of a woman's lips wrapped around my dick would feel like that. I'd been missing out, big time.
I hadn't put things like that on my bucket list but I damn well should have. The other things I was currently thinking I should have added were the little things like, holding hands with a beautiful woman. Which was currently happening as Maisie and I walked through a nearby town on our way to the cinema. Meadowside was tiny, it didn't have it's own cinema.
We couldn't keep our hands off each other, not even in just the sexual sense. The little touches, hugs, holding hands and the kisses were setting my whole body off in a trance. I felt like I was literally walking on air and nothing could bring me crashing back down to earth again.
We arrived at the cinema and Maisie instantly led me to the back seat, pulling my folded up bucket list out of her handbag and instantly crossing off 'Kiss Maisie again', 'Go on a date' and 'Sit in the back row of the cinema.' It was only day one of our adventures and we have already managed to cross off three things. Maybe we could add more to it, that way we could spend more time together.
Maisie had chosen our film, we were here to watch a reshowing of The Notebook. I'd heard things about this film and Ace had warned me to stay far away from it, but of course I hadn't listened and here I was. Folded up in a tiny chair in the back row, making out with a beautiful redhead whilst we waited for the film to start.
Two hours later, tears were streaming down both of our faces. Maisie was practically sobbing her heart out as we watched Noah and Allie die together on that bed in old age. I completely understood why Ace had warned me away, this film was going to break my goddamn heart.
The film finished and we moved to leave, we joined the queue to leave the cinema when I heard the distinct sound of someone's heart breaking. I towered over everybody else so I instantly craned my neck to search the now lit up room and right there in the front row …. was Ace. Clutching a tissue and hugging his popcorn box tightly as he sobbed like a baby. I couldn't help the booming laugh that left my chest, causing Maisie to jump almost a foot in the air.
I nudged her arm with mine and pointed at Ace through the crowd, she squinted her eyes and tried to make sense of what she was seeing.
"Holy shit, is that Ace?"
"Uh huh, I told him The Notebook had a one off showing here tonight. He warned me to never watch it." I told her with a chuckle. This dude was something else. Maisie grabbed my hand and began pulling me back through the crowd towards Ace .
I was still chuckling when we arrived in front of a heart broken Ace, who was still staring at the blank screen as tears flooded his cheeks. Maisie turned to glare at me, although she also couldn't hold back the tiny smirk that was trying to break free.
Maisie sat down next to Ace and instantly pulled the giant, quivering dude into her arms and began to soothe him.
"It's okay Ace, they're together now."
He hiccupped a bunch of times before finally choking out,
"I know Cherry, but she didn't know who h-he was for so long. H-how could you love someone s-so much and forget them? It's j-just so unfair," the last word being drawn out as he began to wail again.
I placed a hand over my mouth and began rubbing at my face, trying to hide the fact that I wanted to absolutely fold over laughing.
"Come on Ace, let's get you home. Did you drive?" Maisie asked gently, pulling him to his feet and leading him out of the room. She couldn't look at me, I could tell she was trying so hard to hold it in, just as I was.
"Hugh's coming to pick me up, h-he should be o-outside," Ace choked out.
We led him outside and instantly saw Hugh's truck waiting at the curb. As we moved forward as one, Hugh looked up. First he made eye contact with me, then Maisie before settling on a heartbroken Ace whose shoulders were still shaking as he clung to Maisie like a life raft.
He rolled his eyes and shook his head before turning off his engine and getting out of the car,
"For fuck sake," I heard him mumble before circling around and opening up the passenger door.
"Ace, I told you not to watch that film again. This is the third time I've picked you up like this, thank fuck you don't have a date with you this time." Ace let go of Maisie and launched himself at Hugh's chest, Hugh barely braced himself for impact before bringing his arms awkwardly around Ace's shaking body and attempting to console him.
"There there," he said whilst patting his back.
I lost it, completely and utterly lost it. I bent at the waist and laughed louder and longer than I think I ever had. Just the sight of serious, controlled Hugh hugging an emotionally broken Ace set me off like a bunch of fireworks.
I laughed until I couldn't breathe, my stomach muscles ached from overuse and my throat hurt, but it was so worth it. I hadn't laughed like that, maybe ever.
When I finally came to and gathered myself enough to remember I had company, I raised my eyes to take in a giggling Maisie. She was still trying so hard to hold it in, but the way she was looking at me reflected pure joy.
Hugh was staring straight forward, the tiniest smirk on his lips whilst he still held one arm around Ace. And Ace … well he looked furious. He looked like a toddler who had just been told no as he stomped his foot, crossed his arms across his chest and trudged off towards Hugh's truck.
"Bloody arseholes!" he shouted and we all fell apart, the three of us laughing until tears fell down our cheeks … just like Ace.
What a great day.
The high I was now feeling was the perfect set up to tell my mum and dad that I was moving out. It was time, I was ready.
