Chapter 34
Chapter Thirty-Four
CHRISTIAN
“Officer Davies has been suspended immediately following further investigation into his behaviour, not only today, but it seems he has a bit of a reputation for being a smug arsehole.”
I sit back in my desk chair as I pinch the bridge of my nose.
“It’s a start, at least. I want him struck off the force with a permanent black mark on his record,” I order my solicitor.
“Trust me, he won’t be working again any time soon. I should have his personal information to you by the end of the day.”
I thank him and end the call before a deep yawn escapes. After a very late night, I'm exhausted trying to work out who was trying to get into Jasmine's room. She remembers seeing something out the corner of her eye at some point but isn’t sure if it was possibly the jacks that held up the shutters or a person. Some ripped fabric was also stuck in one of the jacks so it could have been that. There was also the question of how they got up there and fitted the two jacks without setting off the alarms or being spotted.
Maximus found what he believes is a climbing hook in the wall above Jasmine's window, which adds more questions than answers. He will go back up safely with the ladder he will purchase later when he gets back from dropping off the new security details at the hotel where the wedding and reception are being held.
Terry and I were up until five this morning going over the footage and trying to find some kind of time stamp for when the jacks were put into place, but there was nothing. It looks like the footage has been corrupted, so it's been picked up by Logan, who will review it and see what he can dig up.
At this rate, Calvin and his team will be paying Jason for the manor they purchased from him with the money they are making from us alone. We have some of their guys surrounding the house, and we hired extra security for the wedding. Jasmine will now have Jason's security, Gordon, with her and Layton. Calvin has stepped up to be Jason's security if he needs it, but hopefully, with the wedding being so close, the only time he will be leaving the house is with me, or I will be here so Terry can go wherever he's needed.
“Daddy?”
Her sweet voice brings me out of the constant worry as I look up and see her standing at the door. She’s wearing a beautiful white blouse with a black pencil skirt. Her hair’s pulled back from her face but hangs loosely over her shoulders. As gorgeous as she has always been, there are times like now when her beauty truly leaves me speechless, and I wonder what I have done to deserve this fantastic woman in my life.
“Are you okay?” she asks, walking into the room and heading to me as I hold out an arm, desperate to hold her, if only for a moment.
Pulling her onto my lap as I push my chair back a little, I capture her lips with mine, not caring if her lipstick transfers over to me.
“I will be better when you are safely away from this house next week,” I answer. Jasmine smiles sweetly whilst wiping her thumb over my lips to remove the lipstick.
“At least no one will get to us if we spend the week of our honeymoon in bed.” Wrapping her arms around my neck, she leans to the side, brushing her lips over my ear. “I can’t think of any better way to celebrate our marriage than with a constant stream of orgasms.” Her teeth graze over my earlobe, and I’m unable to hold in the moan that leaves me as my cock hardens underneath her.
“What time is your appointment?” I ask as she kisses the side of my neck. My hand slides up her thigh and to her hip so I can grip hold of anything, anchoring her to me.
Jasmine giggles and lifts her head, smiling at me, telling me I’m not going to like her answer.
“I’m leaving in a minute, so no time for what you're thinking,” she winks before standing up as I groan with frustration.
“You are turning into a tease, Baby girl,” I sigh, rubbing my face as she kisses my cheek.
“I will make it up to you later.” She leans on the arm of my desk chair and grins. “I will let you put me in any position and use any hole you want.”
Standing up, I force her to step back and trap her against the desk, just like I did the very first time I told her how I felt. Placing my hands on the wood behind her, caging her in, I lean in, so I am looking deep into her eyes.
“How am I meant to concentrate today when all I can think about is bending you over and making you come on my cock until neither of us can think or see clearly?” Unlike the timid little thing my girl once was, she doesn’t look shocked; instead, she places her arms over my shoulders and closes the little distance between us.
“I think you will be just fine, Daddy. Just think about how wet I will be as I try on the dress I will marry you in on Saturday,” she grins as I wrap an arm around her waist. “But first,” she whispers against my lips, “I have to go and meet my maid of honour who is probably here.” She kisses me and tries to step away from me, but I tighten my hold and kiss her with everything I've got until she’s gasping for breath and limp in my arm.
Stepping back from her with a grin as she tries to get control over herself, I sit back in my chair.
“Have a lovely time with your friends, Sweetheart. I will be here waiting for you.”
She stares at me for a moment before turning around and strutting towards the door, purposely swinging her hips as she goes.
“While I’m out, try to decide which one of us will be on our knees later.” Turning around, she looks back at me and slowly closes the door. “FYI, it won’t be me,” she winks, closing the door behind her.
“Carry on, and you will be over my knee!” I call out, hearing her giggle from the other side of the door. Then, the click of her heels becomes quieter as she walks away from my office.
That woman is going to be the death of me. If it’s not because of the constant worry of keeping her safe, it will be due to the way she makes my heart race and my mind forget I don’t have the stamina of a twenty-one-year-old anymore.
My phone pings on the desk, signalling the security cameras have been activated. Looking at the screen, I spot Travis pulling up outside before escorting Verity out of the car, where Jasmine and her two security guards are waiting for her. Closing the screen, not needing to see any more, I lean back in my chair and attempt to control the urge to stop Jasmine from leaving the safety of this house. Only to remember it’s not as safe as I would like it to be.
My office door flies open, hitting the wall as Travis Donavon storms into the room, slamming the door closed behind him. I’m straight up onto my feet, ready for whatever this prick wants to throw at me now.
“One month, O’Reilly!” he yells, slamming his hands on my desk and leaning forward as I stand behind it, already working out all the ways I can get to him to kick his ass. “One fucking month of having you back in my life, and you are bringing shit to my door!”
“What are you throwing a hissy fit over now, Donavon?” I demand, leaning forward on my desk and refusing to back down to this arsehole.
“Why the hell is Nicholson contacting me asking about you and your brothers?”
Shit. Why didn’t I even consider he would ask Travis about me? He’s trying desperately to get Travis working for him and will use any reason to contact him.
“What’s he said?” I demand.
“He wanted to know if you are a threat to him and what you deal in.” Travis stands up and crosses his arms over his chest. “I swear to god, O’Reilly, I will not let you put my girl in danger; she has been through enough shit without you dragging her down.”
“You think I want my girl in danger? Do you really believe I would endanger Verity or any of Jasmine's friends?” Stepping back from the desk, sending my chair flying backwards, I storm around to the front of it and stand inches from Travis, who uncrosses his arms, looking as ready to fight as I am.
“I need to know what he said, and then I will know what action to take. If I thought Verity was in danger just by being around Jasmine, I would ask you to take both of them and run. To hide Jasmine away from me and my brothers until we could take care of things.” Travis stares at me as what I said sinks in.
“I’ve done all I can to keep that man and his shit away from my family for the last month. I don’t need another reason for him to be contacting me. I will keep Verity from Jasmine if it’s for her own safety.”
My anger explodes, the red mist starts to descend, and I act before I think. Grabbing him by his jacket, I pin him to the wall, taking him by surprise.
“You have no fucking idea how much shit is going down here right now, so you coming in here throwing a tantrum is not fucking helping!” I snarl in his face. Travis attempts to push me away, but I’m stuck tight as I stare at him.
“I will fucking kill you if anything happens to my fiancée because of you lot!” Getting in my face as he grabs my top and spins us around so I’m pinned to the wall. He goes to swing at me, but I’m quicker and punch him in the stomach, winding him and giving me a chance to knock him to his knees. “You stupid fucking piece of shit!” he snarls, jumping back to his feet before we throw ourselves at each other and end up on the wooden floor.
“Enough!”
Someone grabs me from behind at the same time as someone else pulls Travis to his feet. Jason steps between us with his hands out, trying to keep as much distance between us as possible.
“For fuck’s sake! I thought we were past this shit!” he yells as I shrug off whoever is holding me. Travis shrugs off Terry but doesn’t stop staring at me. “What the hell are you fighting about now?”
“Ask your arsehole of a brother,” Travis snarls. “He's the one who has pissed off Nicholson!”
“What the fuck is he talking about?” Jason yells, turning his full attention to me.
“I don’t know, ask him! He’s the one that came in here shouting about it!” I point to Travis as he crosses his arms over his chest. Jason turns around to face Travis as I walk away and grab a bottle of water from the side. Needing to do something, anything to distract myself.
“Tell me what’s going on?” Jason asks calmly. I can feel Travis’s eyes following me, but I don’t allow myself to look back at him.
“I had a call today from him, asking questions about you guys. What you are into? Are you a threat to him? Did I know anything about the uprising against you? He also asked if you were the type to kill dealers?”
“What did you tell him?” I ask, sitting behind my desk chair and opening the bottle, desperate to hide how much my hands are shaking.
“Fuck all. I told him we hardly speak, and as far as I’m concerned, you don’t deal with anything that would be considered a threat to him. As for killing dealers, I told him you only would if they were dealing on your properties, but even then, you would give a warning first.”
“Thank you,” I sigh, sitting back in my seat.
“I didn’t do it for you, arsehole. I did it for Jaz. I don’t give two shits what happens to you.” Travis walks up to my desk and leans on it again. “But like I said, there is nothing I wouldn’t do to protect my fiancée.”
“Fiancée?” Jason asks as I look up at Travis, the question in my eye. “Jazzy never said anything.”
“Because Verity isn’t telling her until you return from the honeymoon. She doesn’t want to take any focus off Jaz,” Travis explains, looking at Jason before turning his attention back to me.
“Congratulations,” I say, surprising myself how genuinely happy I am for him. He may be a pain in my arse, but I know he loves Jasmine's best friend and makes her happy; that’s something I will always be happy for. That girl struggled with her life, but I know the Donavons will always protect her.
“Fuck off,” he growls, pulling a seat in front of the desk and falling into it. I can't help but smile, knowing that’s his way of thanking me.
“We would never knowingly put Verity in danger,” I point out. Travis nods as he knows that deep down. “But lots has been happening in a short space of time, and we are doing all we can to keep the girls and ourselves safe.”
“What’s been going on?” he asks as Jason approaches us, grabbing a second chair. “Did you really kill six dealers in one night?”
“Yes, I had a very good reason, and that’s all I’m saying on the matter.” Jason looks at me and mouths, “Carol.” I nod once, watching his shoulders relax a little.
“As for what’s been going on? How long have you got?” I sigh, rubbing the bridge of my nose.
“Not long, so stop stalling and tell me what the fuck you’ve gotten yourself into this time, O’Reilly.”
