He’d done the same thing when Trent got into trouble with his previous girlfriend.

Trudy was even more upset when she saw the name of the judge who signed off on it.

She hated everything about Trudy, and the feelings were mutual.

She did that out of spite, but Trudy couldn’t wait to pay her a visit in the morning.

She wanted to see what proof she had before she went to her superior to file a formal complaint against her.

Personal feelings needed to stay outside of the workplace and she was gonna find that out the hard way.

“Handle your business, boo, and best believe I’m gonna handle mine,” Clover replied, interrupting her thoughts.

“I guess it’s time to show you just how well connected I am. See you in court soon.” Trudy smiled deviously as she turned to walk away. Clover’s next words stopped her right in her tracks and made her heart take a nose dive in her chest.

“See you soon and tell Carmelo that Clover said hi.” Clover snickered while Diva cackled loudly.

“Maybe you should tell him yourself since I have no idea who that is.”

Trudy’s heart was racing and her palms started to sweat.

She’d been trying unsuccessfully to reach Carmelo for the past week.

He never answered her calls or texts and he never returned any of them.

Trudy had been stressed out and she needed some good weed and even better dick.

Carmelo never failed to deliver them both.

She didn’t know how Clover knew him but she was hoping to find out.

She tried to be super careful when she saw him but she obviously wasn’t careful enough.

“You a muthafucking lie, ole nasty mouth, bitch!” Diva yelled angrily.

“Excuse me?” Trudy was offended by her choice of words.

“I must admit that you got some skills for an old hoe. Shit, I might need to take a few pointers from you. Those gag reflexes are impressive,” Clover laughed as she played the video and turned it around to show Trudy.

“I hope she don’t kiss her husband with that same mouth.” Diva frowned in disgust.

Trudy was mortified when she saw herself on video. She couldn’t believe that Carmelo had recorded their intimate time together. More than that, she couldn’t believe how much she had degraded herself just to be with him.

Melvin had been her husband for over thirty years, and she had never done half as much with him.

He was so conservative that she kept that side of herself hidden.

Now, she knew why Carmelo hadn’t been bothered with her.

She felt like a fool and she was sure that she looked like one.

He didn’t even care enough about her to keep their tryst a secret.

“Look, I’m not trying to have any bad blood between us but—” Trudy was trying to humble herself and hopefully finesse her way out of the situation. She was quickly interrupted and called out on her bullshit.

“Nah, bitch, don’t try to get professional now. My daughter came to you on some grown woman shit and you wanted to take it there. And you better hope they don’t drug test your weed head ass.”

Diva wasn’t in the mood for small talk. If she had her way, Trudy would have been laid out the minute she felt bold enough to walk through the door.

“How about you keep your retarded ass medicated son in line? Then, I might reconsider inviting your husband out to dinner to discuss a few things over lobster and lemon drops. Or I can give you and your entire family something to do next weekend.

I already have the paperwork secured to make sure I never spend a night in jail. How does that sound to you, Mrs. Well Connected?”

Clover replied as she once again tapped her freshly manicured hand on her purse, letting Trudy know what was up.

“That sounds fine to me. You have my word that Trent won’t be a problem for you anymore.” Trudy hated that she basically had to bow down to a child who she felt was beneath her but she didn’t have many options.

“You keep your end of the bargain and I’ll keep mine… maybe,” Clover laughed and taunted.

“And we’re closed so find the exit just as fast as you found the entrance.” Diva got in her face, daring her to say something that she didn’t like.

Without another word or backwards glance, Trudy hurried to her car and pulled off. As soon as she got to a red light, she pounded her fist on the dash board and screamed.

“What the fuck!” she yelled as tears poured from her eyes.

Just like her husband always predicted, their son was gonna cost them one way or another.

She couldn’t fully blame Trent for everything that time around.

She had to take her lick and own up to her mistakes.

Carmelo was a dirty bastard but he was a street thug.

She shouldn’t have expected anything less.

He was done with her and he made that perfectly clear.

As much as she wanted to go at the judge who granted Clover the order of protection, she couldn’t do that either. She couldn’t run the risk of her dirty little secrets being revealed. Being the underdog didn’t feel good, especially for someone who was always at the top.

Trudy hurriedly got herself together before she pulled into her driveway. She pulled down the mirror to make sure she didn’t look like she just cried her eyes out a few minutes ago. Once she was satisfied with her appearance, she got out of the car and entered her house through the kitchen door.

“Would you like a salad? I made more than enough.” Melvin was standing at the kitchen island chopping up tomatoes and onion. She was surprised that he offered but at least he was talking to her.

“Thanks, maybe later, I’m okay for now. I, uh, went to have a talk with Clover,” she admitted.

“What? Why would you do that? Are you trying to go to jail?”

“The protective order is for Trent, not me. It wasn’t even like that. I just apologized for everything and assured her that he would stay away from her.” Trudy told a small portion of the truth.

“Well, that’s all fine and good, but I wish you wouldn’t have gone at all. How did it go?”

“It went fine. That’s basically all she wants is for Trent to stay away from her.”

“Stay away from who?” Trent asked as he quietly entered the room. Both his parents were startled by his presence, especially since they didn’t hear him come in.

“Sit down, Trenton. We need to have a talk,” Trudy said.

“About?” Trent asked defiantly. He didn’t want to sit down so he folded his arms in an aggressive manner.

“Clover.” Trudy sighed nervously. Talking to her son wasn’t always easy and having her husband there while doing it made it even more difficult.

“What about Clover? And if you’re talking about that stupid piece of paper, don’t even worry about it. I’ll straighten things out with her.”

“That’s the problem, Trent, you can’t. That stupid piece of paper, as you call it, holds a lot of weight. You see what happened when you violated the last order,” Melvin spoke calmly, trying to reason with his son.

“That was different. Clover and I have a different kind of relationship.”

“You and Clover don’t have a relationship. That’s why she got the restraining order in the first place.”

“Like I said, we’ll discuss it when I see her again.”

“Stay the fuck away from Clover! There is and never was a relationship. I’m not going through this bullshit again, Trenton. You won’t see or contact her again or you’re going back to jail. Is that clear enough for you to comprehend?” Trudy was fed up with her son’s dismissive behavior.

Both her husband and son looked at her in shock.

Usually, it would be Melvin going off, but the roles had definitely been reversed.

The stakes were higher that time around and his stubbornness could cost her more than just her marriage.

Clover had something in her possession that could derail her entire career that she worked so hard for.

She was no saint but she always tried to be discreet with the relationships that she had outside of her marriage.

“Wow,” Trent laughed mockingly, “Fuck you too, then.”

“Wait a damn minute!” Melvin yelled to his son’s departing back as he walked away.

“Just let him go, Melvin.” Trudy waved her hand dismissively. She never wanted her son to feel like they were all against him, which was why she always took his side. She was sure that he felt more alone now than ever before but her hands were tied.

“See, this is the shit that I be talking about. Trent needs more help than you and I can give him. He needs to go somewhere to get some professional help.”

“I hate to say it but I agree,” Trudy dropped her head as she spoke.

She was starting to think that her husband was right about some of the things he’d been saying for years.

Maybe Trent did need to be admitted to a facility to get some help.

As much as she hated to even entertain the idea, it would make her life much easier if he went away for a while.

Sadly, it wasn’t what she wanted, but she had her own selfish reasons why his absence was best.

Tears poured from Trudy’s eyes, as her husband walked over to comfort her.

“I know this is hard, sweetheart but we both know it’s for the best. I’d rather see him go away for a while to get help versus getting hurt in the streets and run the risk of never seeing him again.” Melvin rubbed his wife’s back lovingly as he spoke.

“Yeah, I know. It hurts but I know it has to be done. I want our old life back, Melvin.”

“So do I but there’s only one way for that to happen. Let’s get him some help.”

“Okay,” Trudy agreed as she nodded and wiped her eyes. Her husband smiled and squeezed her a little tighter. She welcomed his touch since it had been a while since he laid a finger on her.

Trent stood by the back door seething as he listened to his parents talk about putting him away like he was a sheltered animal. They were trying to plan his exit, not knowing that he had a few plans of his own.
