Chapter 14
Nitro
Iwasn’t trying to listen to the girl gang from outside of the nursery door, but hell, sue me.
As soon as I heard Jazz’s voice, I stepped closer, just wanting to hear what she had to say.
What I heard was the girl gang coaching her through wanting more, convincing her that she deserved more if only she would take a chance.
Their words of encouragement hit me square in the chest, words that I myself probably needed to hear as well.
“You good?” Fox murmurs into my ear, causing me to shiver.
I knew as soon as he stepped up behind me, I feel him no matter where he is. It’s like the energy shifts around me, my body coming alive.
“Thank you,” I peer at him over my shoulder, his warm chocolate eyes gazing into mine.
His brow raises in question before his eyes slide closed when I press my lips to his before pulling away.
“Thank you for your patience with me. For making me believe that I could have you even when I don’t think I deserve to be loved by you. ”
His eyes soften as he turns my body toward him, his large hand gripping me by the neck, long fingers sliding into the hair at my nape, pulling me in to press his forehead against mine.
“Zane, you put your body on the line for your brothers, you care for the women and children as if they’re your own and you are still convinced you don’t deserve my love.”
“Hayden,” My voice a broken whisper as my eyes drop to my feet at his words.
He grips my neck tighter, patiently waiting for me to meet his gaze again.
“You are loved, Zane. You may not recognise it because of your fucked up parents, but you love with your whole being and you deserve every ounce that I give back to you.” He stares into my soul, imploring me to believe his words.
Closing my eyes I take a deep breath before letting it out slowly. My mind not only on the amazing man standing right here in front of me, but also the woman behind the door. “So does Jazz.”
“And she’ll get it. Every damn drop from you and me,” Fox says with a smile and a glint in his eye.
Rolling my eyes I pull back from him, pushing against his chest. “I can’t believe you made a sex joke while we were having a heart to heart.”
“It wasn’t meant to sound like that, but I like the way you think,” he grins at me boyishly before sobering. “Come on, let’s head to church, find out what the fuck those two dweebs know, and then we’ll go to bed and figure out how the hell to get our girl.”
I follow him down the stairs, my mind still lingering on Jazz’s voice, loud and clear telling the woman that no one will love her.
She’s so convinced of that fact that she doesn’t even consider the possibility that there are two men out here who want everything with her.
I know I was hesitant at first, for many reasons.
I’m broken, not just from military service, but from my life before.
I was lucky enough to find Fox, the one person that not only listened to my fears, but chased them away and continues to do so every time I find myself in the shadows.
The thought that there could be another person out there who would love me like that seemed an impossibility. Until we met Jazz.
The first time she walked into the clubhouse it was all eyes on her.
Her long, dark hair falling in waves down her back.
The megawatt smile on her face as she teased and taunted her sisters and some of the brothers.
Her thick thighs that rubbed as she walked, that round ass and large, full tits.
She’s more than a beautiful face and sexy body though.
She has real depth. The power to treat the kids in her class in a way that made them feel 10 feet tall and bullet proof.
A woman like that is rare, and the thought that she could one day be mine?
Ours? Well, that’s a mind fuck in and of itself.
I’m pulled out of my thoughts as soon as we step foot in church.
I’m not sure if the women are joining us, or if they’re going to continue coming up with plans for Jazz to grab life, and me and Fox by the balls.
Yes, I heard Mira’s every word, and I had to hold back my groan thinking of Jazz’s small hands on my junk.
Marx raises his hand to thump against the wall before stopping, his head tilted to the side, waiting. Then I hear it, frenetic thumping down the stairs before Chewy with Chomper, Pops, Mad Dog and Remy enter the room.
“Sorry, son. Had important business,” Mad Dog says, taking a seat.
Marx dips his chin, then thumps the wall behind him. “Tell us what we know so far, and Chewy will get the rest outta them.”
“Well, their equipment is fucking high end. Like military high end,” Wire starts, looking around the room. “I’m betting that’s courtesy of Matthew Thompson. I got the Tombs’ to give me a hand to pack it all up and bring it back here.”
“I’ll be hacking into it after I question the geeks,” Chewy says fiddling with Chomper’s claws.
I did wonder why he was joining Church tonight as Chewy usually leaves him in his special pen in the nursery. Obviously he’s going to be put to work.
“The one thing I did notice was that this shit is almost too high end to use on one single bug in the police station.” Wire adds.
“What do you think that’s about?” Savage asks.
“I would imagine we aren’t the only ones they’re keeping an eye on,” Chewy says.
We all go quiet. It’s our mission to fuck up anyone who thinks to run skin, guns or drugs through our town. But we’re only one small MC in a small town in Texas. Who the hell else are they working with, or against that would determine they’d need such high end equipment?
“Don’t worry. Me and my man will get the answers.” Chewy nods.
“OK. Anything else?” Marx looks around the table.
“Um, yeah there is something I found,” Remy says, eyes darting to her Ol Man, before moving back to Marx, then Switch. Interesting.
“Is it to do with Joy and Kit?” Switch says, leaning forward in his seat.
We all share a look. Switch is a fucking loud mouth, but he takes his work very seriously.
Knowing Hitchens’ wife and kid on a first name basis, and how invested he is in their situation is definitely out of the norm for the brother.
He has that detached doctor thing locked down so tight that a lot of the time he comes off as an asshole at work.
Not the caring Patch Adams type. Until now.
Remy shares another look with Wire. “Kinda. I’ve been tracking his phone to determine his movements, getting an idea on when the best timeframes are for you to get her and her daughter out of their home.”
“OK,” Switch frowns.
“What we got, Remy?” Mad Dog asks.
“It seems that he’s not on as many overnight shifts as she thinks he is.” Remy looks around at the brothers waiting for the penny to drop.
“He’s got a sidepiece,” Jules says in a bored tone.
“Yup.” Remy nods, eyes darting to Switch’s clenched fists, the knuckles white with tension. “I haven’t got any info on her yet, but as soon as I do I’ll let you all know.”
“Thanks Remy,” Marx answers, running a hand down his beard. “So we got a crooked cop with a sidepiece, two geeks with military grade tech -”
“And a disgraced CO who’s been peeping at us for no reason,” Pops cuts in.
“Oh goody!” Rider says, rubbing his hands together.
“And other than that, we’re in the fucking dark,” Rhodie finishes.
We sit in silence for a moment and I can’t help but dwell on the fact that the small job Moss asked the DRMC to help him with, has just spiralled into a big fucking job with a CO that was a massive asshole when Fox and I knew him.
I share a look with my man across the table and can’t help but wonder how the fuck we get the girl when all this shit is swirling around us.
He must see it written all over my face, because he tips his head forward, holding my gaze.
Determination is written all over his face and I know that man will stop at nothing to make sure I get what I want.
What I want is him and Jazz in my life, my bed, my future; crooked cops and cartels and other fuckers be damned.
“Well, that was a nice quiet moment, but can we make them scream now?” Chewy asks, looking around the room for permission.
“Fuck it, why not? Might tell us who the fuck we’re gunning for,” Marx says, banging his fist to close Church and moving to stand. “Lets get some fucking answers.”
Fox
We file out of the room and find the girl gang all lined up on the stairs, grinning huge.
“Where are you all going?” Tav asks Blanche, dropping a kiss to her lips.
“Where do you think? It’s squealing time.” She grins at him.
The women all cheer and each one of their men takes their hands, leading them out the door. Jazz stands on the stairs, gathering her handbag and waves her sister goodbye, telling her she’ll call her later.
Nope, our woman isn’t going to slink home to sit there alone.
No way. Nitro must agree with me because he gives me a look saying that he ain’t going nowhere.
I try to hide my smile, giving him a quick kiss and an ass squeeze before heading out the door behind my brothers and their women.
My lips pull into a wide grin because I caught that little flush of color that ran up Jazz’s chest and neck, painting her cheeks a pretty pink. Yeah, she’s into us.
I make my way to the Rev Room, alone with my thoughts but I know that in this club, surrounded by meddling brothers, that peace doesn’t last long.
“So, you claiming her?” Mad Dog asks, trying for casual but I can tell by the way he’s holding himself that it’s anything but.
“Are you claiming Miss Candice,” I raise my brow, trying to hide my smirk.
“Hey, you shut it!” he hisses, eyes darting to Wire who is none the wiser, “there is nothing going on between us.”
“Yet,” Pops adds and I try not to laugh as Mad Dog gives him the stink eye.
