Chocolate Covered Cherry Cake Recipe
Ingredients
Whipped Cream or Cool Whip Topping (optional)
Sliced Cherries (optional)
Frosting
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup milk
5 TBSP butter
1 cup bittersweet chocolate chips
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.
In a large bowl, combine cake mix, pie filling, eggs, and extract by hand until well blended. Spread batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
For the frosting, place sugar, milk, and butter in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring gently. Boil for one minute, stirring constantly. Remove pan from heat and stir in chocolate chips until smooth. Pour the frosting over the warm cake.
Let cool at least 90 minutes before cutting. Serve with whipped cream or Cool Whip if desired. Place cherries on top.
