Chapter Twenty-Two

Luke

My sleep was restless. How the hell was I supposed to get any sleep with a naked Fallon next to me?

She knew exactly what she was doing, getting in bed like that.

The little tease. And the thing that makes it worse?

She slept like a fucking baby. The snores coming out of her were something I'd expect from an old man. She’s still going now, her mouth open wide, catching flies.

It’s only been five hours, and God knows when the last time she had a full night's sleep. As quietly as I can, I sneak out of the room, turning back to check I didn’t wake her when I get to the door.

She looks like an angel, all curled up in my bed.

It’s a shame she makes noises like she’s having an exorcism.

I smile to myself whilst I make a beeline for the coffee machine.

This time yesterday, busy sulking over missing her, I'd never have guessed I'd be waking up today with her in my bed.

I thought it would be a nightmare to get her out of the hospital, but she gave in so easily.

I could see how drained she was. She just needed to reset.

Even if it meant leaving Maya's side for a few hours.

I’ve never met a group of friends like it.

They’re all so close, but I can't help but think Fallon feels a little like the outsider. Maybe it was different before her best friend and her brother became a couple? There are just some moments when I notice her expression dropping, or how she stands off to the back of the room. But that isn’t the Fallon I have come to know.

She’s so vibrant and full of life, doing everything for everyone but herself.

I never want her to feel that way with me.

I finish making a coffee for us both when I hear footsteps come up behind me.

Turning, I find Fallon standing there, leaning against the door frame, wearing nothing but my T-shirt.

Fuck. She couldn’t get any sexier if she tried.

Her hair is still wild, loose now, trailing down her back and over her shoulder.

She greets me with the most beautiful, lazy smile I have ever seen.

“Hey,” she croaks out, lifting an arm to stifle a yawn.

“Are you feeling any better after some sleep?” I ask.

“Honestly? I could have slept for a week. But I do feel much better,” she smiles. “I’m anxious to check on Maya, though. Tommy texted earlier to say she’s doing okay.”

“Well, let me feed you, and then we will leave for the hospital,” I ask.

“What kind of feeding me do you mean?” She asks, a mischievous glint in her eye. “Because there is something I’ve been wanting to devour since last night.”

“Baby, we wouldn’t be leaving the bed today if I had a say in anything.”

“That sounds like a dream to me right now,” she sighs wistfully. “Fine. Give me food, then tonight, Luke, you are mine.”

She ends her sentence by walking right up to me, leaning up on her toes, and pressing a chaste kiss on my lips.

That doesn’t last long, though, as clearly we’re both hungrier for each other than we first realised.

The moment she pulled her face back from mine, our eyes locked, and I was on her.

I am a greedy bastard, stealing her lips with my own.

She opens up for me, our tongues clashing in an angry race.

There is no way I will ever get enough of her.

The way her back arches into me, her breasts pushing against my chest, her hips moving against my…

“Fuck it,” I growl, grabbing her arse and lifting her, positioning her pussy directly on my cock.

She inhales sharply when I start to grind myself against her.

I feel like a fucking teenager, ready to blow in my underwear.

This is what she does to me. Her fingers thread through my hair, pulling my face closer to hers, as I walk us out of the kitchen and to the living room.

I drop down onto the couch, taking her with me, leaving her body straddling mine.

I lower my hand down her body, needing to feel her heat on my hand, when she stops me.

“No time for foreplay. I need you, Luke, like I need air. Fuck me, please,” she begs, tugging at my hair even harder.

My dick is straining against my joggers, making it tricky to pull them down. Or maybe it's just my frustration at wanting to be inside of her as quickly as I can. When I finally pull them low enough, my cock springs free, and Fallon wastes no time in pulling up my T-shirt she’s wearing.

“Have you had no underwear on this whole time?” I groan out painfully.

“Nope. I wanted to be ready for you.”

Where did she come from? I’m sure she was handcrafted especially for me.

“You are going to kill me.”

Her face is still a breath away from mine as she lowers her body. When she’s close enough to touch, I thrust up, my dick sliding in deep. Our lips are locked, swallowing each other’s moans as we do. I don’t want to move. I want to stay like this, inside of her, for a lifetime.

“Luke,” she pants. “I need you to move, it’s too much but not enough.”

I wrap an arm tightly around her middle as she squirms on top of me. I help her to move as she fucks herself on my cock. With my other hand, I tangle it in the hair at the nape of her neck, needing to keep her close to every part of me.

It’s not long before her walls are pulsing, sucking me in tighter, making me get closer to the edge.

The minute her orgasm erupts around me, I don’t let up, fucking her harder to see her through for as long as possible.

She’s so fucking wet, I don’t want to stop.

But she’s screaming my name, clenching me so good it forces my own release to follow right along with hers.

“Baby, you have no idea how much I have missed this,” I say as she drops her forehead into the crook of my neck.

“Mmm,” she drawls out in what sounds like agreement.

“You okay?” I ask, a smug smile tugging at my face.

“Yep, I’m in a sex coma. Give me a second,” she mumbles against my skin.

I laugh, stroking my fingers up and down her back.

“Just wait until I have you properly. You will definitely want to sleep for a week.”

“I look forward to it.”

After cleaning up and feeding my hungry girl actual food, we dress quickly and head back to the hospital.

I check in with Maya and see that everything is going well, and then I leave her to prepare her discharge papers.

If anyone thought it was strange that Fallon and I turned up together, none of them mentioned it.

Honestly, I think that with the amount they all have going on, they would easily miss one of their friends hooking up with some random person.

Not that all we’re doing is hooking up, fuck, my heart hurts at the thought of that being all that we are.

I want so much more.

But how do I tell her when she’s so against anything like that?

I need to know what she’s scared of. I need to know what it is that has hurt her so badly in the past that it affects everything that could happen in her future.

I want to be her future, but I can't be with all these obstacles in the way.

After the past year she’s had, I know I need to not push her, yet. But soon.

“Dr Smyth,” a flirty, feminine voice calls.

I was so preoccupied with the thought of Fallon, I didn’t even see who was right in front of me. I look around, not noticing who it could have come from.

“Here,” the voice says again. Penny. She is leaning against the wall beside me, a bright smile on her face. “You were in a world of your own.”

I smile back, slowing down my stride. “Sorry, I most definitely was. Is everything okay?”

“Yeah, I, um, just wanted to say hi,” her cheeks flush as she admits that.

“Well, hi,” I laugh. “Sorry to rush off, I really need to sort something, but I’ll see you around.”

“Yeah, sure. See you soon,” she says as I continue to my office.

That was strange. I barely ever speak to her, now she keeps popping up all the time. I wonder if she has also heard the rumours floating around that Will and Dom were telling me about. She must feel so embarrassed, too. I make a mental note to clear the air with her when I see her next.

Walking into my office, I get to work sorting out the details and papers I need to discharge Maya. I know that more than anything, she wants to get home and to her own bed. Wouldn’t we all, especially her, after not being home for such a long time.

Thirty minutes later, I finally make it back to her room, and I'm greeted by the whole entourage. Tommy introduces everyone to me again, and now that I'm more invested in their group, I try to remember each of their names. Blair, Gracie, Lucy, Max and Jenson.

“You can all call me Luke,” I say once he’s finished. “I have seen Maya so much this year; she feels family.”

“After everything you’ve done for us, you are part of our family now,” Tommy says, before looking back at Maya with so much love in his eyes. “If you ever need anything, I’ll be there.”

“That’s so kind. Now, Maya, I can finally see you leave and hope to never see you back again,” I smile.

It might sound harsh, but that woman has seen these walls more than she ever should. I don’t mention that I hope I do see her outside of here, with Fallon by my side. I’ll save that for another time.

They’ll all start to filter out of the room, Fallon hanging back with Maya and Tommy.

“Thanks again, Luke,” Tommy says as he shakes my hand.

“Yes, thank you so much for everything,” Maya adds, leaning in to hug me quickly. “Tommy? Please take me home.”

They both laugh as they leave, hand in hand. It takes me a second to register that Fallon hasn’t left with them, but I find it more odd that her friends haven’t realised she hasn’t left with them either. She has a sheepish look on her face as she leans against the end of the bed.

“You have no reason to randomly bump into me anymore,” she says, with a look in her eyes that I can't quite decipher.

“That is true,” I say back.

“So, I don’t know when I’ll see you,” she sounds so glum, but I know she’s trying hard to hide it.

“Ah, is this your way of trying to leave me?” I raise a brow.

“Erm, well, if that’s what you want?” Her face is like a brick wall, but the wobble in her voice betrays her.

“What I want, is to take you back to mine as we planned and spend another evening with my girl,” I say, stepping closer to her.

“You do?” she asks, her voice quieter than usual.

“I do. More than anything.”
