Chapter 19

Chapter Nineteen

I used to think I was tough. Fuck. The minute Katie’s eyes well up at the sight of that little gold horse-shoe necklace I almost break into a thousand shards of metal.

With her pretty green eyes glassy, she looks at the back of my truck. “My things. You got my things back from my brother.”

There’s a boulder stuck in my throat. “Yeah. Everything should be here. The car’s on the way too.”

Right on time, the gate opens and a blue Honda rolls through. It’s dirty as fuck, and has a spare tire on the driver’s side. It’s old but a ton better than the other POS she was driving when we met.

I’m still buying her a new car.

Katie leans against my chest, burying her face against my cut as she sniffles. “I can’t believe you did this for me.”

Cradling her head in my palm, I watch a club van roll out through the gate.

“Said I’d get your things back, sunshine. I keep my word.”

Slider glances at me, then toward the van and back at me.

I know what he’s saying.

She deserves to know one of my club brothers is holding her piece of shit blood relation at gunpoint right now until our van gets there to pick him up.

No fucking way I was putting him in my truck with her belongings with him bleeding like a sprinkler.

I kiss the top of her head. “We’ll unload this stuff in the warehouse and tomorrow you can go through it and move whatever you want in.”

Katie’s full-on crying now.

“Oh fuck, sweetheart.” I swallow ten times. “I didn’t do this to upset you.”

“I’m not upset,” she sniffles. “I just can’t believe you did this for me.”

It’s clear this woman has never had a good man in her life.

I toss my keys to Slider and pick her up. “I’ll do everything I can for you. Please don’t cry. I can’t take it.”

She sniffles into my neck. “I don’t know how I’ll repay you.”

“By being mine.” I carry her into the clubhouse, past the stares, into our room and kick the door closed. I sit in the armchair, cradling her in my lap as sounds of the club party drift down the hallways.

With a husky tone, I say, “I wish I could erase what he did to you.”

She leans back, looking into my eyes. “You are. Everything you do is helping me close the doors on that awful chapter.”

Her eyes search my face as I slide my fingers into her hair. “I’m in love with you woman. It’s crazy, but I am.”

“Me too,” she whispers. When she leans in, I kiss her slowly. Tasting her tears as I hold her so fucking tight.

My phone starts blowing up in my pocket. “Shit. I need to check that. Could be club business.”

She sighs contentedly and toys with my beard, making my blood turn to thick gasoline.

“It’s the boys,” tell her. “They want to celebrate the run. I should go have a few toasts with them. It’s tradition. Even though I really just want to bend you over the arm of this chair.”
