Eight

SENAN

With my hip braced against the windowsill, I watch the wind tear at Allette’s cloak as she stomps through the snow. Her first shift at the launderette begins in an hour. It’s a day for celebration.

At least it should be.

Meanwhile, I’m still standing here, counting her footprints.

Pushing away from the window, I head outside into the blustery day… and scream until my voice gives out.
