Chapter 50

Aditi's Perspective

As Kabir's lips moved against mine, a rush of warmth flooded my body, igniting a fire that had long been dormant. Our kisses danced between tenderness and urgency, a sweet exploration of all the emotions we had bottled up. I wanted to get lost in him, in us, in this moment that felt suspended in time. I could barely think straight, every nerve ending tingling as he pulled me closer.

But just as I began to let go completely, my phone vibrated insistently in my pocket. I pulled away slightly, breathless, eyes wide with desire and disappointment. "Wait," I murmured, trying to suppress a groan. I fished my phone out, glancing at the screen. It was my mom.

"I really should take this," I said, my heart sinking as I answered the call. "Hi, Mom!"

"Aditi! Where are you?" My mom's voice was bright, filled with concern. "I've been looking for you and the kids at Kabir's party."

"Uh, I'm—" I glanced at Kabir, who was still hovering close, his presence electrifying. "Just checking out the backyard."

"Make sure to keep an eye on Anaya and Arjun!" she instructed, her voice fading slightly. "They're all over the place, and I don't want them getting into any trouble!"

"Sure, I'll grab them," I replied, my heart racing. I could hear the laughter and chatter of the party in the background, and I didn't want to miss out.

"Great! I'll let you go," she said, her tone lightening. "And enjoy yourself! Just make sure they stay close!"

I hung up, looking at Kabir, who had an amused smirk on his face. "Guess we should get back," I said, feeling a mix of excitement and reluctance.

"Yeah, but first," he whispered, his lips brushing against my neck, sending shivers down my spine, "let me distract you a little longer."

"Kabir, we can't do this right now!" I gasped, trying to control my breathing as he continued to trail kisses along my neck. The sensation made it hard to think straight.

"Why not? It's just a little distraction," he murmured against my skin, his warm breath igniting a heat that consumed me. "They'll be busy with their own adventures. Just focus on us for a moment longer."

My heart raced as I glanced back at the door, knowing the kids were waiting. "I don't want them to get into any trouble," I managed, even as my body leaned instinctively into him, craving more.

Kabir chuckled, a playful twinkle in his eye. "You just can't resist the call of responsibility, can you?"

I shot him a glare, but couldn't help the smile creeping onto my face. "Not when my mom is involved."

"Let's go, then," he said, opening the door for me with a flourish. "After you, my lady."

I stepped out, the cool air of the hallway hitting me as I tried to gather my thoughts. I needed to make sure there was no trace of our moment lingering on me before we faced our families. I pulled out my compact and quickly checked my reflection in the mirror. A quick dab of lipstick was in order.

"Just a second," I said, turning away from him. I reapplied my lipstick carefully, glancing back to see Kabir leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed, watching me with an amused expression. "What?"

"Just appreciating the view," he said with a smirk. "You always look good, but there's something about you right now that's... mesmerizing."

"Stop," I replied, feeling my cheeks flush. "We have to get back downstairs."

With one last look in the mirror, I pushed my hair back and made sure everything was in place. "Alright, let's go find Arjun and Anaya," I said, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness wash over me.

As we descended the staircase, the sound of the party enveloped us once more. Laughter and chatter filled the air, the warmth of familial love surrounding us. I spotted Arjun and Anaya near the living room, and my heart softened at their youthful exuberance.

"There they are!" I exclaimed, and Kabir nodded, following my lead.

"Hey, you two!" I called out, approaching them. "What are you up to?"

"Playing a game!" Anaya beamed, her little hands animatedly describing something to me.

"Yeah, we're going to sneak around and scare everyone!" Arjun added, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "You should join us!"

Kabir chuckled, his expression playful. "You know what they say about mischief, right?"

"What?" Arjun asked, wide-eyed and earnest.

"Mischief managed," Kabir replied, winking at me.

I rolled my eyes, unable to suppress a smile. "Alright, alright. But first, let's take a look around the house together. I think your parents would like that."

They nodded enthusiastically, and together we formed a little group. I glanced back at Kabir, who walked beside me, his presence a comforting balm amidst the chaos.

"Do you think we can manage without any chaos?" I asked teasingly as we made our way through the throngs of guests.

"Chaos is kind of the theme of the night," he responded with a grin. "But I think we can handle it."

Just as we were about to enter the main living area, my mom called out, "Aditi! There you are! And Kabir! How nice to see you."

"Hi, Aunty!" Kabir said, his smile brightening the room.

"Where were you two?" she asked, eyeing us with that classic motherly curiosity. "We were wondering where you disappeared to."

"Oh, just checking out Kabir's room," I replied, hoping my voice sounded casual.

"His room?" she echoed, raising an eyebrow. "And what's in there that's so interesting?"

"Books," Kabir said quickly, a little too quickly. "And some travel photos. You know, the usual."

"Travel photos?" My mom's eyes sparkled with interest. "I'd love to see those!"

"Of course! We'll show you later," I interjected, hoping to steer the conversation away from anything too personal.

Just then, Anaya piped up, "Didi, why is your neck hurt from that side?"

I froze, my heart racing as I shot a panicked glance at Kabir, who was stifling a laugh behind me. I felt a flush creeping up my cheeks, my mind racing for an explanation. "Uh, I just... it's nothing! I accidentally bumped into the curling rod while doing my hair," I said, trying to sound nonchalant.

"But it wasn't there in the evening," my mom pointed out, crossing her arms.

"Um, I must have moved my hair in front of it while getting ready," I blurted, my heart pounding as I fumbled for more words.

Kabir, unable to contain himself, let out a soft laugh. "Good save," he whispered, his eyes twinkling.

Just then, Raghav walked over, smirking as he approached us. "What's all this about a neck injury? Did you get in a tussle with a curling iron?" he teased, leaning in with a playful grin.

"Shut up, Raghav," I said, glaring at him, trying to maintain my composure. "It's not what you think."

"Sure it isn't," he teased, clearly enjoying this far too much. "So, should I call you Kabir or 'Curling Iron'?"

I turned to Kabir, who had a mock-serious expression on his face. "I'm not sure, but 'Curling Iron' has a nice ring to it," he replied, grinning at me, his eyes filled with mischief.

I rolled my eyes again, fighting back laughter. "Just wait until you're in this situation with Arushi."

Raghav laughed, the sound light and teasing. "Well, I can't help it if she has a boyfriend now," he said, shrugging. "It just means I'll have to step up my game."

I shot him a pointed look. "It's okay. You'll always be her only one, don't worry," I said, sharing a knowing nod with him.

"Alright, enough of the teasing," Kabir said, stepping in to change the subject. "Who's ready for a house tour?"

"I am!" Anaya exclaimed, clapping her hands in excitement.

Arjun nodded eagerly. "Me too!"

With a sense of camaraderie, we gathered together. As we led the way, I could hear Raghav and Sahil exchanging playful jabs behind us.

"Just don't burn yourself with the curling iron again, okay?" Raghav called out, making Kabir chuckle.

"Or maybe it's a secret technique for getting Aditi's attention," Sahil added with a wink.

I shot him a glare, my face burning. "You guys are impossible!"

As we walked through the house, Arjun was animatedly explaining the various features of the rooms. "And this is the living room! It's really big and has a TV!" he exclaimed, puffing his chest out proudly.

"Wow, I had no idea," Anaya replied, eyes wide with curiosity.

"Yes, and over there is the kitchen, where taiji and mumma makes all the yummy food!" Arjun continued, leading the way with confidence. "And then upstairs is where Kabir sleeps."

"Sounds interesting!" Anaya chimed in. "What else do you have up there? Any secret treasure?"

I couldn't help but smile at their innocence. "Well, I'm sure Kabir has a few secrets, but you'll have to check it out yourself!" I teased, nudging him with my elbow.

Kabir laughed, shaking his head. "No treasures here, just a lot of books. But maybe I could give you both a little peek later."

The kids cheered in delight, clearly thrilled with the prospect of exploring Kabir's room.

As we moved through the house, the teasing between Raghav and Sahil continued. "So, Kabir, are you sure you want to take the title of 'Curling Iron King'?" Raghav said, his tone dripping with sarcasm.

"Better watch it, Raghav," I warned, unable to suppress my grin. "Or I might just tell Arushi about your secret crush."

"Hey! That's not fair!" Raghav protested, his face flushing slightly.

"Hey, don't get mad. Just look forward to your 'Curling Iron' days," I teased, relishing the banter.

Sahil chimed in, "At least we know where you get your charm, Raghav. Just don't blame the curling iron if it doesn't work out."

I couldn't help but laugh at their back-and-forth. The warmth of family and friends wrapped around us like a comforting blanket, making every teasing jab feel light-hearted.

"Alright, let's finish the tour," Kabir said, shaking his head with a smile.

As we continued through the house, I found myself stealing glances at Kabir. His laughter, the way he engaged with the kids, the ease of his presence—everything made my heart swell.

And then, just as I thought the teasing would simmer down, Raghav leaned in closer. "Kabir, you should really keep a curling iron in your room for future reference. Just in case you want to impress Aditi again."

I groaned, my face burning as I playfully shoved Raghav away. "You guys are the worst!"

Kabir laughed, clearly enjoying every moment. "You all are lucky I find this amusing."

"Amusing? You're the one with a reputation to uphold," Sahil added, winking at Kabir.

"Okay, okay, enough," I said, finally letting out a laugh. "Let's focus on the tour before we end up on a whole different topic."

As we moved toward the backyard, the evening air was cool and refreshing. The garden glowed softly under the twinkling fairy lights, creating a beautiful backdrop for the laughter and joy that surrounded us.

"See? This is where all the fun happens!" Kabir said, spreading his arms wide as if showcasing a grand stage.

Anaya twirled around, her eyes sparkling with wonder. "It's so pretty out here!"

"It is," I agreed, glancing at Kabir, who looked more at home than ever. "You've really done a great job, Kabir."

He smiled back, his expression softening. "Thanks. I just wanted it to feel welcoming."

The laughter of our friends and family, the playful banter among us—it felt like a tapestry of memories woven together in that moment. I could feel my heart swell with happiness as we settled into the warmth of togetherness.

As the night progressed, we gathered around for some snacks and drinks. The conversation flowed effortlessly, with everyone joining in on the teasing and laughter.

"Alright, let's all make a pact," Raghav proposed dramatically. "No more curling iron jokes for the rest of the night. Deal?"

I looked around at everyone, the playful glances exchanged, and couldn't help but chuckle. "Deal!" we all chorused, laughter ringing out in the air.

With the playful teasing temporarily set aside, I found myself sitting close to Kabir, our shoulders brushing against each other as we shared stories and laughter. It felt like a bubble of happiness, safe from the outside world.

"Hey," Kabir said softly, leaning in closer. "You know I really meant it when I said I've missed you."

My heart raced as I turned to him, the seriousness in his gaze sending a thrill through me. "I missed you too, Kabir. More than I can express."

His smile deepened, and for a moment, the laughter and chatter around us faded away, leaving just the two of us in our own little world.

But just then, Arjun and Anaya ran past us, giggling as they chased each other around the yard, bringing me back to the present moment. I couldn't help but smile at their joy, knowing that no matter what happened, I would cherish these memories forever.

As the evening wore on, filled with laughter and teasing, I knew that despite the chaos of family and friends, it was moments like this—shared warmth, connection, and the teasing banter that brought us closer—that made everything worthwhile.
