Chapter 53

Kabir's Perspective

As I walked around the car to the driver's side, I could still feel the gentle warmth of Aditi's hand in mine from moments before. My heart was racing, and I couldn't wipe the stupid grin off my face. Her presence had always had this effect on me, but tonight was different. Tonight, she was breathtaking. Every little detail about her—the shimmer of her gown, the way her hair cascaded down her back, the soft blush that spread across her cheeks when Anaya teased us—was like something out of a dream. And somehow, impossibly, she was all mine.

I slipped into the driver's seat, and without thinking, I reached for her hand again. Her soft fingers slipped easily into mine, as if they belonged there. With one smooth motion, I lifted her hand to my lips and pressed a soft kiss to her knuckles. Her skin was warm beneath my lips, and I let the moment stretch out, savoring it, letting it ground me. This was Aditi—my Aditi, the girl who made every moment feel extraordinary.

"You look... utterly mesmerizing tonight," I murmured against her hand. I didn't even care if the words sounded cliché, because they were true. I couldn't help but let my gaze roam over her again, taking in the way the streetlight illuminated her face, casting soft shadows that made her eyes look even more intense, her lips even more tempting. "I've seen you in a thousand ways, but tonight... I don't think I've ever seen you look this beautiful."

Aditi's eyes softened, and a shy smile played on her lips, her cheeks turning that familiar shade of pink that I loved. She reached over, her hand cupping my cheek gently. "Kabir," she whispered, her voice barely above a breath, "you should see yourself right now."

She leaned in closer, her breath warm against my skin. Her eyes were scanning my face, taking in every detail as if she was seeing me for the first time. "Do you even know what you're doing to me?" she whispered, her fingers lightly brushing over my jawline, sending sparks shooting through my skin.

I could feel the warmth of her gaze, and I watched as her eyes traced the lines of my three-piece suit. I had thrown it on hurriedly, but seeing the way she looked at me now—her lips parted slightly, her gaze full of admiration—made me feel like I'd made the best decision of my life by wearing it tonight.

"You look so... handsome, Kabir," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "When I saw you standing there earlier, I could barely breathe. I was so mesmerized by you, by how perfect you looked tonight. Like you just stepped out of one of my dreams."

Her words sent a rush of warmth straight to my chest, but before I could respond, she leaned in closer, her lips brushing against mine. The kiss was soft at first, tentative, as if she was still letting the moment sink in. But then, as if something clicked between us, the kiss deepened.

Her lips moved against mine with a hunger that took me by surprise, igniting a fire in my chest. I groaned softly, pulling her closer, wanting to feel her against me. Her hands slid up to the back of my neck, her fingers tangling in my hair as she kissed me with a kind of urgency that made my heart race.

I couldn't think—there was only her. Her soft lips against mine, her warmth seeping into me, and the way her breath hitched whenever I kissed her just right. I tilted my head, deepening the kiss even more, savoring the way she tasted, the way her body seemed to melt into mine.

I could feel the heat rising between us, the way our breathing became shallow and quick. I slid my hand down to her waist, pulling her even closer until there was no space left between us. She responded with a soft moan, and I felt my own control slipping away.

Her hands moved down to my chest, her fingers tracing the edges of my suit jacket before slipping underneath to feel the warmth of my skin through my shirt. Her touch was electric, sending shivers down my spine. I kissed her harder, more desperately now, as if I couldn't get enough of her.

Aditi shifted in her seat, pressing herself closer to me. I could feel her heartbeat against my chest, matching the erratic rhythm of my own. My hand slid up her back, tracing the delicate curve of her spine, and I could feel the tremble in her body as she kissed me back with equal fervor.

For a long, breathless moment, it felt like time had stopped—like the world outside the car didn't exist. There was only the two of us, lost in each other, in the soft, heated press of lips and skin and the overwhelming need that surged between us.

But just as I was about to lose myself completely in the moment, we were interrupted by a distant, high-pitched voice echoing through the night.

"I want all the chocolates NOW, Mom!" Anaya's voice rang out, her demand cutting through the haze of our kiss like a bucket of cold water.

Aditi and I both froze, our lips still pressed together, and for a split second, we didn't move. Then, as if in perfect unison, we pulled back, our eyes wide, before bursting into laughter.

"That girl!" Aditi gasped between giggles, shaking her head. "She has the worst timing!"

I couldn't stop laughing either, the sound of Anaya's indignant voice still echoing in my mind. I leaned back in my seat, wiping the corner of my mouth with the back of my hand, still trying to catch my breath.

"You'd think she could give us at least ten minutes," I said, grinning as I looked over at Aditi. Her cheeks were flushed, her lips slightly swollen from our kiss, and she looked absolutely stunning—like a goddess caught in the act of being human.

Aditi was still laughing, her eyes bright with amusement. "If she knew what she interrupted, she'd probably come out here and demand chocolate from you as payment!"

I chuckled, shaking my head. "Well, we better not push our luck then. She might come running out here any second."

"Anaya didn't even want us to go out tonight," I said, chuckling softly as I remembered the little gatekeeper's dramatic insistence. "She practically demanded we stay and eat with them. Said eating alone was boring and we should have dinner at home."

Aditi smiled, shaking her head fondly. "I'm not surprised. She's always trying to keep me from going out when you're involved. She wants all the attention."

"She's a tough negotiator," I added, glancing at Aditi with a smirk. "And somehow, I always end up giving her exactly what she wants."

Aditi giggled, her fingers playing with the edge of my sleeve. "I know, Kabir. She's got you wrapped around her little finger."

I grinned at her, my hand squeezing her thigh a bit, my thumb slowly brushing against her leg. "It's not just Anaya I'm wrapped around, you know."

Aditi's eyes sparkled, and she bit her lower lip as if considering my words. Before she could say anything, I leaned in, closing the distance between us, my lips capturing hers in a kiss that was soft but intentional. Her hand slid up to my neck, fingers gently curling into my hair as she kissed me back with the same eagerness from earlier.

It wasn't hurried this time. We both let it linger, slow and deliberate, as if savoring every second, every touch. I could feel the warmth of her skin, the gentle rise and fall of her breathing. Her lips moved against mine, soft yet firm, as if telling me without words that she felt the same way I did—that this moment, this connection, was everything.

I tilted my head slightly, deepening the kiss just enough to draw a quiet sigh from her. Her hand moved to my chest, resting over my heart as if she could feel how fast it was beating. I didn't want to pull away, didn't want this moment to end, but the sound of a car driving by in the distance reminded me that we were still in the real world, not lost in some private fantasy where time stood still.

Reluctantly, I pulled back, resting my forehead against hers, both of us catching our breath. Her lips were slightly parted, and her cheeks had that beautiful flush that I loved so much. Aditi opened her eyes slowly, looking up at me with that same mischievous spark that had been there all night.

"You make it really hard to leave," I whispered, brushing my thumb across her cheek.

Aditi smiled softly, her hand still resting on my chest, feeling the thud of my heart. "Who says I want to leave?"

I chuckled, shaking my head. "We should probably get going before Anaya comes out here demanding chocolate compensation for interrupting us."

She laughed at that, leaning back into her seat, her fingers finally slipping from my hair. I started the engine, the low hum of the car filling the quiet around us. But before I put the car in gear, I reached over and placed my hand back on her thigh, just like before. This time, it wasn't about teasing. It was just where I wanted to be—connected to her, even in the smallest way.

Her hand drifted over mine, fingers intertwining as I pulled away from the curb. The city lights blurred past us, but all I could focus on was the warmth of her hand, the familiar comfort of her presence. Every now and then, she would glance over at me with that playful smile, the one that made me feel like the luckiest guy in the world.

I squeezed her thigh gently, my thumb making slow, lazy circles on her skin as we drove in comfortable silence. It was one of those rare moments when words weren't necessary. Everything I wanted to say—everything I felt—was communicated through the quiet touches, the soft smiles, the easy way we just existed together.
