Chapter 18

Chapter Eighteen

Brody

I waited for Finn to text me after the game.

It had been a grueling few days, and I was ready to have some fun. Jamie had been calling me while I was away with the team, giving me updates on Winnie.

Apparently, my dog didn’t seem to miss me when he stayed with her aunt Jamie, who fed her pancakes for breakfast.

Finn: I have to see you.

The text came through as I was glancing at photos Jamie had sent of Winnie at the park.

Me: When?

I could barely contain my excitement.

Finn: Now. The team is heading out to dinner, but I heard about a small bar and grille in the next town over. We could go there.

I jumped off the bed and quickly began to dress.

Me: Sounds perfect.

Finn: Great. I’ll order a car service. Meet me at the back entrance of the hotel in fifteen minutes.

I finished dressing and raced out of my hotel room.

Tonight was going to be amazing.

After a thirty-minute car ride, Finn and I arrived at a small restaurant with only a few cars parked in the small lot. It was the perfect place for us to go tonight. While the rest of the town would be celebrating the team, we could hide away here and be together.

As we walked inside, Finn asked for a table near the back. We kept our heads down as we walked through the small restaurant.

Once we were seated, it was like we were in our own world.

“This is perfect,” I admired, picking up the laminated menu in front of me.

Finn reached over and took my hand in his. “We should do this every day.”

“I wish,” I sighed.

Finn squeezed my hand. “One day.”

Our waiter came over, and we both ordered burgers. Finn opted for sweet potato fries, and I decided to share with him.

While we ate, we talked about the game, our favorite television shows, and I showed him the pictures of Winnie. It was nice being able to just sit with Finn and talk normally. We weren’t worried about the people around us or what people were thinking.

“Maybe you should bring Winnie to my place sometime? You both could stay the night,” he stated.

I wanted that so badly. Maybe in the future...

After dinner, we walked outside as Finn called the car service again to pick us up.

Suddenly, there was a man with his phone in my face. “Hey, Finn, thought you would be with the team,” the man shouted.

He snapped photos of us, and a few people in the parking lot turned to look at us.

I turned my head away, but the guy kept on. “I’m a huge fan.”

Finn plastered on the smile he used for fans. “I love to meet a fan,” Finn said. “Me and my friend heard about this amazing restaurant, and had to check it out,” Finn told him.

While he posed for a few photos, I hurried to the car that had just arrived for us. Hearing Finn call me a friend wounded me, but I couldn’t be upset. I’m the one who refused to be labeled in a relationship with him right now.

After a few more minutes, Finn joined me in the car. “I’m sorry about that. I didn’t think anyone would notice me here.”

“It’s ok,” I said, even though my dreaded fear began to rise again.

Finn leaned over and took my hand. We held hands until we arrived back at the hotel.

“I want to spend the night with you,” Finn whispered, as we got out of the car.

I should tell him no. That it isn’t smart to hook up while the rest of the team and staff are staying in the same hotel. Especially, after we found a fan in the next town. But, I couldn’t deny him.

“Ok,” I said.

“I’ll text you when it’s safe to come up,” he explained.

There was something so devastatingly sexy about our secret hook-ups. Sneaking around was hot, but tortuous because I wanted to be with this man.

I guess I would just continue to live in this secret fantasy world.
