Chapter 25 #2
“What I want to know is how did one come to be on this ship?” Tirrian sounds angry. I imagine he is not a creature who doesn’t like to be in control of his own body. “Who runs this bar?” he demands of Tully, who shakes her head.
“My sister and I do. We never hired this thing,” she spits out the words, and the Madova laughs again, looking quite comfortable reclined back on the chair.
“We hired what we thought was a Filani. She had all the right documents and references, but was always covered in the traditional Filani garb, so we didn’t know any different. ”
“Filanis can be just as dangerous,” Silac points out, and Tully shakes her head.
“There are good and bad people in all races. Most Filanis only take the smallest amount of life force during sex, nothing that damages the partner, but it’s also why they never settle down.
They need to constantly have sex to feed, but there are some who will kill their partners.
This is nothing new in the galaxy,” Tully argues.
“Unlike these parasites. Gilani needs to see the doctor now. We need to find a way to extract the eggs.”
I can’t believe what I am hearing.
“So you are saying that this one took the place of the real woman you hired? But why?” Cas asks, stepping out of the booth, and I follow him. I can feel Silac and Tirrian at my back, so I turn and whisper to them.
“Can the two of you wake the rest of the men from the trance and get them out of here? I don’t think it’s safe.”
Thankfully Tirrian doesn’t argue or sneer, he just quickly agrees, and then they work their way around the room as I tune back into the conversation.
“Tell us why you’re here,” Tully demands, her gun still pointing at the Madova.
The Madova chuckles and shrugs. “Maybe it was just my breeding time and I was looking for a suitable partner.”
Cas shifts into half form, shredding his clothes, and the two of us mount the steps to back up Tully.
“I somehow doubt that. No man is willing to breed with a Madova, it’s why you need to put us all into a trance,” Cas snaps.
She hisses, and a long, forked tongue flickers in and out of her mouth. I shiver in disgust. Now, on Silac, that shit is sexy, but seeing this female do it just creeps me out.
“Why are you really here?”
She starts to laugh again, and this time more yellow pus starts to ooze out of the gaping hole in her stomach. That thing still hasn’t retracted, and it’s no wonder, considering the size of the cock that had been in it. I feel nauseous just looking at it.
“I just can’t do this with all of that.” I gag a little. “Can we cover her up?” I ask.
One of Caspian’s tentacles grabs the last cloth she removed and quickly drapes it over her. She doesn’t move.
“Why isn’t she moving?” I’m curious as to why she is just sitting there, unconcerned.
“She can’t. She’s paralyzed for a short time. They both would have been if Tully hadn’t stepped in.”
“Shall I call Xavier and get him down here? Maybe he can rifle through her brain and find out why she’s really here,” I suggest, and he looks at the female once more.
“Last chance to admit why you’re here, or I will call the warlock down and he can force it out of you.”
She hisses, and I see her pussy snake start to retract as all of the ones on her head stand up and flare their hoods.
“Ah, I think the paralysis is wearing off.” I point out the movement in case Cas missed it.
“Just let me kill her. No good can come of this.” Tully waves her gun, but Cas holds up his hand as Tirrian and Silac join us on stage. The female’s eyes widen, and she licks her lips as she gazes at them, and when I turn to see why, I find Silac has shifted into his half form as well.
“A naga. You would have been a suitable carrier for my eggs. What a shame I did not pick you out of the crowd,” she hisses and pouts.
Silac flares his hood and slithers closer, looking down on her. Her eyes start to glaze slightly, but she shakes it off and hisses at him, as do the snakes on her head. He flares his hood wider and starts to weave back and forth in front of her. This time her eyes glaze over fully.
“Why are you here?” he demands once more.
“The orb of power is rumored to be on this ship. I was sent to find it.” I feel my stomach lurch and my skin prickle with panic. I stay very still, not glancing at Caspian in the hope that I do not give myself away.
“By whom?” Silac demands.
“The Syndicate,” she replies in a monotone voice.
“Who are the Syndicate?” Silac is asking all the right questions, but this time, she shakes her head.
“I don’t know, nobody does, and if anyone finds out, they are quickly dealt with.”
Silac folds his hood back and lowers his body before turning to us.
“Thank you.” Caspian slaps his friend on his shoulder. “I know you don’t like doing that.”
Silac shudders. “No, it makes me no better than her,” he spits out, but I disagree.
“Lila, what do you want to do?” my mate asks me, and when I turn away from the female, the three of them are looking at me, waiting for an answer.
Swallowing some bile, I turn to Tully. “Kill her,” I order, and in a flash, she pulls the trigger.
The gun shoots light and puts a small, smoking hole in the middle of the female’s forehead, followed by one in the middle of the chest and two in the stomach.
Her eyes glaze over, and she slumps, the life extinguished from her body.
“Thank you, Tully,” I say to the woman who lowers her gun and turns pleading eyes on me.
“I am so sorry, Lila. Please don’t fire us.”
“It’s fine, Tully. I’m not blaming you. There must be a better way of checking if people are who they say they are.”
“There is, except we’ve never needed it before, but things are changing.” Cas looks at me, and in his eyes, I see that he understands that this just became an even bigger problem.
“Why would they think the orb of power is here? It’s been missing since the end of the war.
” Silac has a little frown on his face that makes him look all confused, and it’s cute as fuck, but Tirrian is studying me with eyes that I wouldn’t hesitate to guess miss very little.
I wonder if he heard my heart rate jump.
Fucking hell, I hope he’s not going to become a problem.
“No idea. I’m sure it’s just one of those silly rumors that pop up occasionally, kind of like myths and legends on Earth.” I brush it off, and it seems to satisfy Silac, but Tirrian doesn’t look as convinced.
“Well, that’s about as much excitement as I can take for one night. Can I leave you to clean up this mess and see that Gilani is taken to Link? I know he’s down in the clinic now,” I ask the girl, and she quickly agrees.
“Yes, of course. Sully and I will take care of it, and again, we’re sorry.” She bows her head and hurries away, I assume to check on the demonic male and her sister.
I look at the dead female once more and shudder before turning my back.
“Well, I wish I could say this has been fun and a beautiful bonding experience, but it really hasn’t.
Maybe next time you could avoid taking my husband to the death dealing strippers.
” I raise an eyebrow at the other two, and they exchange a glance.
“Sorry, Lila,” Silac mumbles, but Tirrian just scowls at me.
“Right, good chat. See you later, I guess.” I grab my husband’s hand and drag him out of the strip club.
“Lila,” he starts as we make our way to the elevator.
I hold up my hand. “Not until we get home and I can get Xavier to put up a barrier,” I plead, and he stops.
“No, I just wanted to apologize for going to the strip club. It wasn’t planned, it’s just where they were when I went looking for them.” I wave him off and press the button to call the elevator car.
“I don’t care about the strip club. I trust you.
Hang out with your friends wherever. I’m just shaken by the whole Madova thing.
I guess all of the races I’ve met so far have been mostly peaceful.
Seeing her and hearing about their race reminds me that I have so much more to learn, and things aren’t always black and white or safe.
I’m going to ask Saxon to work on my new powers tomorrow. ”
“That’s smart. I forget that you are so new to all of this.
Iceen is still a good day and a half away.
We will probably arrive late tomorrow night and stay in orbit until the morning.
Iceen is too inhospitable during the night to risk being caught outside.
They don’t allow people to transport directly into the dwellings.
There is a landing pad, and we will use a shuttle to get down there, but that is also weather dependent. ”
“Okay, good then. We need to tell my grandpas what happened too, but I really don’t want to worry them even further,” I say as we step in, and it takes us to our floor.
“Let’s not for now. Link can check over Gilani, and in the morning after your training with Saxon, we can tell them. Let them have a good night’s sleep. God knows they are worried enough about John without adding to it.”
He wraps a tentacle around my waist and drapes an arm over my shoulder as we walk to our room. I rest my head on his shoulder and sigh. “There’s never going to be a dull moment here, is there?”
He shakes his head and presses a kiss to my temple. “Not since you arrived, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
