I ’m trying to be better about mentioning spoilers. The Alanaverse isn’t a light and happy place to live. Most of my characters have been slaves. If slavery offends you, or if the aftereffects of slavery might offend you, this might not be the place for you.
The human heroine in this book was born and raised in space as a pet and is very scared in the beginning of the book. She suffered emotional and minor physical abuse in her previous placement. Her character growth is AWESOME in this book, but she doesn’t begin as a strong character. I urge you to hang in there with Lyra, I promise it will be worth it.
All abuse is mentioned off-screen except for a consensual sexual liaison that could be described as less than successful.
