Chapter 30 #4

The counters weren’t as short as a typical counter but not quite chest high either.

The stainless steel countertop was raised by metal rods giving it a more modern look in addition to being functional for what I had in mind.

The three- or four-inch gap would give us the perfect opportunity to peer out while helping us stay concealed unless someone was closely looking.

Ther rear of the counters also had sliding doors for storage purposes.

Lucky for us we really hadn’t needed them so most of the cabinet space below was empty.

The sliding doors on it concealed us if anyone was to enter the kitchen from the rear. So, in other words, it was perfect.

I grabbed Jaxson hand and pulled him toward them.

When we were nearing the line of sight I dropped on my knees and began crawling.

I didn’t want anyone spotting us while we attempted to conceal ourselves.

I was thankful Jaxson didn’t argue with me and rushed headlong into the fray.

Instead, he helped me open up the doors before we slid into the cabinets.

Jaxson slid them behind us once were tucked in.

I sucked in a breath as I was faced with the melee occurring in the cafeteria portion of the DFAC.

It was pure chaos and pandemonium. I immediately sought out my men.

Drake was in the center of the room a forcefield surrounding our people that had been taken as prisoners.

I sucked a sharp breath in when I saw the condition Jace and Troy were in.

They were still knocked out with whatever Horatio’s people had done to them.

Half of Troy’s face had a wicked bruise on it.

His left eye was swollen completely shut.

Even from the distance we were at I saw that his left arm was also hanging at an awkward angle.

I couldn’t wait to find out what had happened in the short time we had been separated.

How had he been captured and when. Had he even reached the locker rooms and if so, why had they stopped just there.

I would have known if anyone came into the lady’s locker room.

My eyes moved over to Jace. Somehow Alex had been able to “converse” with him and I realized it had all been telepathically, while Jace lay unconscious.

On the outside he appeared to be completely unharmed, but that only made me more alarmed.

Was his clothing hiding a more severe injury.

I had tried to shut out all of the “what if’s” that had initially plagued me.

I knew I couldn’t allow their situation to effect the head space I needed to be in.

Once again, I had to shut out my worries and concentrate on getting rid of the invaders.

My thoughts were brought back to the present as I noticed a blur of movement in front of me.

It took me a second to realize it was the boy that had the ability to run fast. When I said he could run fast I wasn’t talking about the 19.

19 seconds Usain Bolt ran for 200 meters.

You could still see him with the naked eye.

This sixteen-year-old teen was literally a blur of movement.

Displaced items were generally an indicator of his presence.

He could literally run across a fountain without falling in he was so fast.

I had to remember the image of the teen.

He too was very unassuming. He was the number one soccer player on his team.

Of course, he had to dial his speed way back but was still able to utilize his gift in a way that when he had the ball none of his defenders could catch him, if he chose for them not to.

He was tall at approximately six feet. He had the build of an athlete and was attractive in the boy next door type of way with dark hair and hazel eyes.

According to our research he was good to his parents and his younger sister.

He was a great teammate and student. His trajectory for the future was bright.

Yet somehow, he ended on the wrong side of our war.

A part of me hoped and prayed he was one of the one Bridgette and Horatio had deceived.

“Stop!” I silently ordered him.

He stuttered to a stop fifty feet from where I had initially noticed his presence.

He looked around confused. He was gripping a rope, and I realized too late that he had some of our people tethered to it.

Seven of our operatives, Dawn and Tyler were on their bellies, hogged tied up ready for their slaughter.

I silently screamed when I saw one of the intruders step up to one of the Carolina guys.

His hands transformed like oversized lobster claws.

Before I could even command him to stop, he affixed the claws around Carolina’s throat and snapped his head clean off.

I knew without a shadow of a doubt this image would be burned to my memory for years to come as his head rolled toward us. His eyes were wide with shock and fear, his mouth was open on a silent scream. He was so young. He was due to graduate in a few short weeks!

“Fuck,” Jaxson cried out obviously seeing the same thing I had.

Hot tears filled my eyes and panic threatened to choke me.

I was frozen in shock and seemed paralyzed to do anything.

My mind raced and I felt helpless as the man moved onto one of the Carolina girls who was openly sobbing and cursing at the man as he approached.

I was so thankful Jaxson didn’t seem as stunned as I was.

Even in his grief and anger he had leaned on his natural disposition.

Of all the things to change the man’s hands into he chose to turn them into pom poms.

The man seemed shocked by it and looked down at his hands as if they had betrayed him.

He looked around wildly his eyes glazed over with blood lust. He didn’t even seem to have any remorse for his actions which he demonstrated seconds later by kicking Carolina’s man’s head as if it was ball.

His behavior was enough to shake me from my stupor.

I felt fury from deep within rise. It was so hot I could almost choke on it.

I imagined a rope and began to coil it around him starting at his upper arms. By the time the rope reached his stomach I chose to change the seemingly harmless rope into barb wire.

It was then that he began to scream and thrash with fear.

He tripped himself and without the aid of his arms to catch himself he fell down to the ground with a jarring crash.

His head bounced off the concrete, and he seemed dazed, but it wasn’t enough for me.

Once he was completely tied up, I decided to set the wire on fire.

He screamed and attempted to roll to take it out, but little did he know I had imagined the bindings to be dipped in oil.

It wasn’t going to be easily taken out. Plus, with each roll the wire was just embedding deeper into his skin.

Micah seemed to appear from nowhere. He blinked a few times at the man burning on the ground in front of him, but seemed to snap back quickly because in a flash he was kneeling beside the other victims of lobster man and runner boy.

He produced a knife from his boot and had them all cut free within seconds.

They all stopped to thank him before running off to reinvolve themselves in the skirmish.

The Carolina girl was dragged off by Dawn.

I could see her attempting to comfort her, but I knew like me that woman would never be the same again.

Micah looked around as if he was deciding his next course of action. I saw movement behind him and realized one of the intruders was within feet of Micah. He had a wicked looking weapon in his hand similar to a cattle prod. This time I wasn’t paralyzed with inaction.

I telepathically screamed at him. “Micah, jump!”

I was beyond thankful he didn’t hesitate and before he vanished, I heard his laughter. “Thanks, Blake!”

I smiled despite the heavy emotions weighing me down. “No problem, bro. Be safe.”

I was reminded of the coward that had attempted to sneak up behind Micah when he let out a thwarted scream.

It was then that he noticed his fallen comrade now engulphed in flames.

The vengeful part of me wanted to let out a wicked laugh when I saw the newcomer attempt to extinguish Lobster man with water.

He yelped when the fire only seemed to rise.

The water wielder held out both hands attempting to aim stronger jets toward Lobster man, but I had seen enough.

I imagined a forcefield, only this one was inches away from his body.

The force of the water and the amount that came from his hands was enough to fill the forcefield with water.

He was literally drowning with his own gift.

It was his turn to panic, and he attempted to smash and kick the shield surrounding him.

“Can you give me a slight hand, Blake?” Jax silently asked me.

I looked over at him and realized his attention was to the right of the room.

There was a middle-aged female that was screaming, jumping up and down and attempting to kick out at the snakes surrounding her.

I remembered that she was a tattoo manipulator.

Nearly every inch of her skin was covered in tattoos, but they weren’t normal tattoos.

With one touch of her tattoos, she could wield or manipulate the item or animal she called forth.

I realized his intentions when I saw her skin begin to redden and welt with each strike of the snakes’ fangs.

She contorted and touched the back of her shoulder blade and a sword appeared.

As I watched she swung it and beheaded one of them.

I realized the snakes weren’t enough. I imagined a black widow spider knowing that their venom could cause severe pain and muscle cramps.

Maybe if enough venom was injected into her, she would be unable to think let alone attack any of our people.

The spider I imagine wasn’t the typical size but one the size of a medium-sized dog.

The woman was so preoccupied and distracted by the snakes she didn’t even notice the black widow I had produced at her back.

For maximum effectiveness of her tattoos, she barely wore any clothing.

She wore a pair of skimpy biker shorts and a sports bra.

Her minimal clothing was generally a strength for her.

It was easier for her to activate her tattoos.

Unfortunately, for her, in this instance it also made her vulnerable to any attacks.

I imagined my spider biting her. She spun around in shock, screaming when she realized what had happened.

Within seconds she collapsed on the floor.

Her back bowed up in pain. I could easily see the puncture wounds my spider had left as it disappeared.

Within seconds she was whimpering and twitching on the floor as her wounds swelled the size of softballs.

It was then I realized that the sounds around us had ceased. It was as if the world had paused. It took a moment for my mind to catch up with my eyes. I covered my mouth muffling the sob of relief as I watched Kade stride forward and all the enemies remaining frozen in time.
